The Nuggets have one of the more intriguing questions of the offseason: how much do you pay Javale McGee? Do you give him more money for a shorter contract or try to lock him up long term for a little less per year. Also, you need to extend Ty Lawson, how much do you pay him? Do you try to keep 'Dre?

They just re-signed Chandler, extended Gallo and Afflalo last season.
McGee is likely going to get a 10 - 12 million dollar offer (big men are always overpaid) and he still seems like the inconsistent knucklehead he's always been. I can't imagine Wizards fans are too broken up about losing him, especially since he'll be making Nene money soon. If someone offers him 12 million a year, do you match?
If you give him that, you're basically capped out. You can re-sign Lawson for whatever because you have his Bird rights but that's it and using the MLE will be tough since you'll be skating close to the luxury tax.
For me the question is: you can keep this lineup intact and become IMO a more entertaining Atlanta Hawks (good but not great) or try to sign someone else or make a trade to improve your chances.

The ink was barely dry on the CBA before the GMs started overpaying guys. The Nuggets will offer 9, someone else will swoop in with 10 or 11. And if the Mavericks miss out on Dwight and CP3, all bets are off on how much Cuban will pay to give Dirk some help next year.

>somewhere between 8 and 10 per year. > >That's their easiest question. > >McGee's deal will depend on who pushes the market. If Dwight >and some other key guys re-up, the market will get more >competitive for McGee. > >Iggy is another decision, I would keep him personally but it's >a tough call if you have to fork over the max.
8. "didnt lawson already sign a deal, too? i am confused here" In response to Reply # 7
so this was a 2012 post with no replies that got upped as the 2013 version?
da fuck?
so their only main player up for FA is iggy, right?
tough call for them there, we'll see what people will do on the open market. i could see a team throwing their fleeting cap space at him when all else fails. hello, charlotte bobcats, hello, big paycheck.
And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
9. "I think a lot of teams will go after him" In response to Reply # 8
And he's going to get priced out of the Nuggets range. I have to imagine that they want to get under the luxury tax and stay away from the repeater tax, which is where they'll end up if the re-up Iggy.
Unless they can dump Javale or another contract, I think Iggy signs elsewhere.

not that that matters or anything. i'd rather they let both walk and let jordan hamilton or quincy miller grow into the swingman rotation. then they can use that money to resign iguodala.
i think the extra year really helps the nuggets' cause for iguodala. i don't know that anyone is going to pay him, say, 12 mil when he's 33/34.
