Me and your cousins like Vampire Weekend or Abel Testfaye

let's say I throw on some CD's like "ixnay on the hombre"

but that would be slightly retro I read advice columns

advising me to let go of fixations and various obsessions

yet the clear lesson lies past the questions why?

and what have you natural ingredients like Luscious Jackson

practicing scales with a metronome to bend time through

triplets like gravy with giblets or the Infinity Gauntlet

pawns get transformed into queens on the Chess board

I remember when Intense Degree played "skate-bored"

on the "war in my head" album so I crown them

the only Earache label thrash band of note

I remember the first song I wrote - a little too close

to "Big me" by Dave Grohl so I put that phase of

songwriting on hold only to take up the process

decades later I'm the one who made the abrupt shifts

in swift succession the procession invests in what

guess could attest that The Guess Who performed "These Eyes"

and "American Woman" stay away from me - yeah!
