if you open the freestyle board page. read five pieces...and comment. that simple. every time....if you check back four or five times a day, then read one piece, and comment. don't just stick with your cyber homies and shit....read anything and errthing...

Regardless otto theres been a decline for a while now,or a slump if you will, yea those are the morals or unwritten rules to keep the board movin, but dont mean we cant get summin poppin, right?

Personally I take it upon myself to read others' work. Whether I know you or not. I think it takes amazing courage to have other people read your poetry and comment on it. I've seen many people's poems have like 40 views but 0 responses. That's not encouraging and it's rude. I understand sometimes you don't know what to say. Not everything that sprouts from someone's mind to their pen you will like, but we gotta keep pushing one another and writing, doing collabs, haikus, whatever. ~~~~~~~~ When One learns to live without fear, then One cannot be broken.

To me, whatever kind of tourney or what-have-you anyone wants to do is great...and if you want to comment, great....and if you don't, that's cool too....people are different and visit the board in their own way..
On top of being busy, I've been ill for a few weeks. I guess freestyle okp'ers come in waves...and you never really know how much of a vital role they played until they're no longer gone
find a way to get people interacting again. This place used to be one big family. We need people to reply to others post, offer tips/advice, come up with fresh ideas for contest, etc.
But how... I dunno.
And I agree that life is so crazy for everyone lately... that alone has taken its toll on the boards.

most of us are so involved in our lives outside of the boards; there are a lot of folks who have families now who don't frequent the board nearly as much as they used to. There are a lot of us who have jobs that require a lot of our time and efforts, so you factor in all of these things and honestly, I'm just glad to see it hasn't been permanently shut down...

This thread invites self devouring prophetic prophecy in a way..it is an Internet board and it is good if a lot of people are too busy to obsess over it, yet, it is a beautiful thing and I'm glad it's here...

Every six months or so I see posts pop up about how the boards aren't this and the boards aren't that. Then I go and support and put up collabo posts, battles, gauntlets etc that die because two days into the posts we lose interest.
Look family, the boards are the boards... there will be people who read and respond, or those who just read. I see new pieces pop up everyday, so to me that's not slow.
I "do" see less people responding (though the views always move) and that IS NOT right. I hear the people who say "some of us aren't here for that" True... but most are just lazy. I'll be real. You read half a piece and back out of it if you don't dig it instead of helping the artists by explaining why you didn't feel it.
Others read the whole thing and maybe they didn't "get it" so they don't reply.
Some just don't know what to say.
Some value their responses as much as the actual piece and if their reply is not much more than "that's deep" they don't reply.
I don't write poetry much anymore. I am into so many projects trying to get people heard (mostly because of the marvelous experience I've had here) so I am sorry I have been an absentee parent lol!
But still, if you want more responses...respond! If you want more collabs, make 'em. Battles etc... But enough with the "back-in-the-day-was-better" We spend so much time languishing on "how it was" but if you were there then, you knew the reply issue was prevalent then!
Family, let's not get too far away from what's real. What's real is this....Every day, talented people post their thoughts, ideas and creations for us to enjoy. That's the point of this place. To enjoy the written word.
So either enjoy each other's art...or log off. Sorry to seem so blunt (out of character lol) but at day's end. We can keep this board as the living breathing truth of word in a PDA Iphone universe. or we can complain, turn ourselves off to the whole experience and in 2 years miss it terribly.
It's up to you... but i'd prefer to see us work and build then complain and shy away...

^^^^ What you said above sums up nicely what I feel. For a long time I wouldn't share my poetry with anyone for fear that people wouldn't like it or simply criticize it with no feedback. I value people's feedback. What you liked, didn't like, did you get confused or lost somewhere in the midst. Do I need to do a rewrite? I come here to champion other's in their craft and to have my poetry read and discussed and to bask in this universe for just a little while. Me thinks it's time for us to do an add on haiku...

You know what the sad part is? I started a Poetry Site of my own...but I don't recruit from here because THIS PLACE is the model for what I want my site to be... There is so much love that I've got for here that I wouldn't want people to leave one to do the other...
I am just done with the "it's too slow" or "they don't respond" stuff. I purposely did the Gauntlets and Beautiful Worlds to see what we would do... I found out.
I even went into the Sign Your Name post to recruit.... sad to say that result as well.

i'd be in here more often if that was the case. i like to use these type of creative writing boards as a prompting launching pad for my juices.
i know i've attempted to liven that aspect up here a few times. 1st one caught on big time (topic tourney), then i tried another couple times to drum up interest in another topic tourney (to no avail), then i started that other thread many months ago with sort of an open-ended game (with a fun and zany name) that could continue to breed new prompts for each other, but it only attracted a small amount of support and eventually fell off.
but yeah: more games and prompts and challenges would get things revving i think...at least i know it would for me.

I wouldn't mind dropping 8s-16s on a specific topic. I need inspiration as one of my resolutions this year is to devote an hour a day to just writing, be it verses in my Book Of Rhymes or personal thoughts on my blog/diary. (Consistency ain't lookin too good right now though.)
