"Pickup Lines"

I’ve been watching you for some weeks now
and I don’t mean to offend or unnerve you
honestly this isn't something I normally do
but your beauty has me mesmerized
from the second I saw you
I had your smile memorized
now the images hide behind my eyelids
waiting to invade my retinas when I try to go to sleep at night
I’m sure some men haven’t stepped to you right,
so I’m trying to befriend you with forever in mind
I don’t doubt you’ve been told you’re fine
but how often has someone recognized the beauty
that emanates beyond your physical being
radiates out into space bouncing off the edge of the universe
to return to earth a thousand years from now
so that future NASA scientists will wish they could get to know you
Like I want to know you
I want to know which wrinkles on your face are formed from disappointment
and do everything in my power to keep them from becoming permanent
I want to memorize your memories
so I can bore your parents with stories of your endearing childhood exploits
I want to compliment you on how perfectly your personality complements
your beauty without commenting on your curves.
I want to know if your eyes dance as well as your feet do,
if you mind moves as well as your hips do,
I want to know if the words that come out of your mouth
are as beautiful as their frame.
I want to write rhymes to the rhythm of your heart,
lyrics to the music of your laughter,
create a series of sketches, paintings, and sculptures with your soul as the subject.
I want to give you my heart for safe keeping
so you know no matter how far I roam I will always return home
I want the names and numbers of every man you’ve ever been with
every man that has ever walked away from you
that hasn’t returned your calls when you really wanted them to
I want to tell them thank you and invite them to our future
because I don’t think anyone should have to live without your friendship
but first I’ve got to walk over and talk to you
because I’ve been standing still in the middle of the dance floor
rehearsing these lines a little too long
and people are starting to stare.

This made me smile, because it didn't come across like a pick up line. It came across honestly.

I was about to say if you lived in the bay you could come to the poetry spot to hear it... then I checked your profile, so yeah, wednesday nights at air lounge in downtown oakland, free entry, dress code, good drinks, hear it live, sign up at 7:30 poetry @ 8pm.

but I'll be at the Tanya Morgan show next wednesday, at the elbo room in SF.

hope you can make it one of these nights tho, introduce yourself and I'll be sure to perform it "for" you.

Smoothly done silk-tongued poem to miss whoever.

Reminds me a the little brother line about coffee-shop dudes
who try hard come across deep just want to fuck
like e'rybody else.

Peace.
