the shadows are long,
virginia summers --
stars melding with humid air,
our dark shapes stretch for days.

i contemplate my elongated form,
reflected on sun baked brick --
i am transformed,
virginia summers,
i am new.

the days go longer,
my shadow grows and stretches,
twists and twines with passing dusken figures --
i have dissolved into you,
virginia summers,
your old dominion.

i walk through your gardens,
my shadows preceeding me --
into your susnet.
into your dusk.

i am one of your world of shadows,
virginia summers,
but not merely a shadow of myself.
