"The Bowlegged Man in the Coffee Shop"
Thu Jul-27-06 10:44 AM by mindful

I've not forgotten about the chasing dreams|catching butterflies series, this just came to me, and well... it would not have been right to brush it off...

The Bowlegged Man in the Coffee Shop

I’m watching him
Standing on bowed
Legs and wondering
Just how tall
He must be.
His pear eyes;
Glazed with sadness
Speak to me, Mooning me
With years of
Pain and I begin
To feel sorrow for
Him.

His head, a holding
Space for movie
Titles and rap songs;
So conveniently attached to
His long neck.
He births a sigh
Of rejection to
Tell me he’s not
Interested. And, I
Become dust, blown away
By an evening breeze.

i asked him for his approval on having a whole section dedicated to him (since i'll be using his name). i'm thankful for the response i received... so, there'll be tons more of these poems. i was working on one the other day while i was out to lunch, and i had to stop myself b/c the words weren't coming easily to me. i'll get back to that one though. thanks for noticing. *nods*

and say with it a while and i really like it.

there's a sense of pity for the man in the cafe, that I almost think turns into admiration and then the speaker being blown off in the end was excellent.

because the speaker does pity him; yet she cannot stop watching him...

This doesn't quite click w/ me for some reason. Maybe because I felt like you described him in a less than flattering and seemingly marginalizing fasion, so it made no sense for me to care about the subject's rejection.

I love the way this ended so lightly and then gone. But it didn't really come together for me before that point.

All I shall say is, that dude is crazy in this piece cause you would've only brought 'Happiness' to his life. Then again he must 'Heal' first before encountering a brandnew chance at 'love'.

You described his sadness so extremely well that I can vision his 'puppy dog' face.

have a blessed year and more to come
