"Thunderbolts* (Jake Shreier, 2025)"

Saw this last night and it's a blast, best Marvel movie since Guardians 3 imo. It won't do Deadpool & Wolverine numbers but is a better movie. Great chemistry with the cast of misfits.

I think everyone with superhero fatigue might get drawn back in again, has me looking forward now to the next movies.

I liked D&W the first viewing mostly for all the surprise cameos and did find myself laughing quite a bit but on rewatch it doesn't really hold up and isn't a great movie. I think I'm a bit weared down on Ryan Reynolds, don't care to see him in anything soon again.

I'm not sure how this movie will be on a second viewing but I do feel like I'd want to watch it again now, something I haven't felt with last several Marvel movies

I fell asleep close to the end and missed how they came to a resolution. That's not a review of the movie, I just have a horrible sleep schedule and the theater I went to made us sit in the dark for 30 minutes waiting for the movie to start. I'll have to wait until it pops up on D+.

Dawg, why are people still getting up right after the credits come on?

I wanted the "extradimensional craft" to be the X-Men Blackbird, but it was cute that it was Reed and 'nem. It makes me think F4 is gonna be one of those that flash forward and backward the whole time.

It's a nice movie.

And it's NOT Marvel's "Suicide Squad."

It's Yelena's arc - as well as some other's arc dealing with the aftermath of End Game and dealing with mental health in the best ways since WandaVision. (Too bad Multiverse of Madness and the BS Darkhold undid that.)

If you haven't seen the Black Widows AND the Disney+ Series Hawkeye then you won't understand where Yelena is at when the movie starts.

I like her a lot - she's funny and she's very human.

Bob (played by the guy who played Bob in Top Gun Maverick) is pretty cool.

The elevator scene was my favorite I think - it's exactly the type of scene I enjoy in a good comic book.

I didn't like GotG 3 or DvsW really - I think they were given 'too much freedom' - like someone needed to tell them to tone it down or knock it off occasionally - they seemed very self indulgent especially Deadpool.

This film seems like it was written by a single team, directed by a single person, and filmed at a single time and that good studio feedback was incorporated.

>I think everyone with superhero fatigue might get drawn back
>in again, has me looking forward now to the next movies.

I see them all - well not the Sony ones.

I think people will like this one.

and for once, it actually felt like it was properly setting up something bigger all the way to the post credit scene.

Yea D&W made a shit ton and it was great for laughs, but Thunderbolts hit differently. It had emotion and heart, made me believe in the characters and their choices/growth. Lewis Pullman is the standout in this film. His portrayal of Bob/Sentry/Void was great. He was able to encapsulate the mental health issues of the character in a way that felt all to real and was still funny when needed to be. I see him doing bigger things in the future off of this role.

Everything else in the film gave the right Superhero film elements and keep the Marvel attitude going. It was a decent return to form of the Marvel film format. I'd absolutely watch a Thunderbolts* 2

This one felt more grounded, which after so many cosmic level events and storylines didn't really do much was refreshing. Mind you, unless you've kept up with a ton of D+ series or lesser cared for movies you don't know (and may not care) who any of these characters are, which might make connecting with anyone hard for some. You could still have fun with the movie without knowing everyone though.

Feels like a S/M/L successful release schedule for Marvel this year

Small - Brave New World
Medium - Thunderbolts*
Large (we hope) - Fantastic 4

Then they wouldn't have to spend so much movie awkwardly inserting expositional backstories into dialogue, *and* I'd know who the hell these people are. Win win!

More Christmas movies coming in 2025...

Not the highest bar to clear, mind you, but it was a movie with actual stakes, not just "hey, here's the next episode!," and I think Pugh is a real movie star. Also had some cool effects and not nearly as much of the "oh, this is bad green screen/weightless CGI" stuff we've grown accustomed to in the last handful of movies.

She is by far the best thing in the film.

It does help to have seen her in the Disney+ Hawkeye series to understand her greatness.
