It feels like a 4 hour movie condensed into 2h20– the pace feels breakneck, so much keeps happening every minute. Coppola is obviously hopeful about our future and engages here in full-hearted earnestness verging on corniness— but that’s also the sort of tone I really like at a time when movies are increasingly self-aware and/or tongue in cheek.
Does it all work? Not really. But sequences on their own really do, and some of the imagery here is absolutely *beautiful.* It’s also very cool watching a movie unfettered by notes, pure vision, packed to the brim with Choices.
I think it’s worth checking out for those interested in movies like this. I don’t know if I can “recommend” it based on the question “is this a good movie?” It’s undeniably a very good experience and a great conversation starter. Time will tell whether it works. (And I wonder if we see a longer cut one day before FFC passes.)

It's worth it to see this fucking weird mess on a big screen. I didn't get the "The Full Experience" ticket that had the dude talking to the screen, but it's still batshit nonetheless.
I dunno, you may hate it - but it's one I'm glad I saw in the theater.

I'm not sure that I like this, but I respect the FUCK out this movie.
This is for cinephiles only, and even then not really.
Nigga, a man walks out with a microphone stand and INTERACTS with Adam Driver on some live theater shit.
Shia and Aubrey Plaza understand what movie their in.
If you're even remotely curious, check it out.
I went to the NY premiere on the 8-story IMAX thrown by the NYFF and I sat about 50 feet from Francis, Spike Lee, and Robert De Niro. Insane. Honestly, that Q&A is better than the film itself.
In twenty years, everyone will be writing essays about this.
Do not go out of your way for the 1.43 IMAX footage. It's only ten minutes and not worth it.

Can’t really say anything that hasn’t been said - but it’s a complete mess. It’s also pretty fucking entertaining. Everyone’s chewing scenery. There’s a ton of “WTF” moments, some of which get audible laughs. You NEVER know where it’s going, and despite it probably MOSTLY not really working - it’s a lot of fun at the theater.
Anyway, go see it soon cause it flopped like shit.
