"What is the funniest thing that Eddie Murphy has ever done. "

One of our greatest entertainers. Share the funniest thing you've think he's done. It could be a movie, sketch, stand-up bit, or even a scene.

I am going with this short scene. I die every single time I see it. I am prone to break into this song at any moment when I am around my friends.

I want to give another go at doing an Eddie Murphy post (I see someone did one last week that didn't take off).

I get that it's thematically heavy... AND still one of the funniest films ever made. I can't think of another movie that has made me laugh as hard and minutes later have my eyes watering up.

Since it led to more prothesis heavy movies that include some of his most reviled.

But that scene is gold. And it's not just dumb comedy because the whole thing actually has stakes because Sherman's love interest is there.

i vividly remember CRYING in the theater during this shit. it was already funny cuz he played the characters so authentically then to just throw in the absurdity of the farting. its the most memorable for me for sure.

it dont have the same replay value for me as life/coming to america cuz that shit was TOO silly but that first viewing was incredible.

For Eddie you gotta have categories when talking about the funniest things he’s done. Funniest line is without a doubt that outtake from Life. I know they had to be DYING on that set when he said that.

Life is FULL of one liners. I’ve been with my wife for over 20 years and we’ve spent that entire time quoting lines from Life to each other ALL THE TIME and it never gets old.

“You gonna eat yo cornbread???”
“Does the name Spanky Johnson mean anything to you?”
“Top shelf!”
“As a man think so shall he get”
“You boys should check it out”
“He look like he can take care of himself”
“I don’t even want no jello now”
“You can tell by the way I walk I ain’t from around here”
“Let’s talk turkey”
“How could I forget…the bill”
“You was scared….dont be scurred”
“She gonna take care of the dog…dog got worms”
“You’d prolly just slow me down”
“Tell him bout the gun line, boss”
“Soft and supple, like a lady”
“You don’t get a lot of compliments around here”
“I da pappy”
“Why for I can’t sit here and wonder….what you got up your sleeve”

Just off the top of my head. Entire movie is quotable. Yes Coming to America is hilarious and still holds up, but the heaviness and the heart of Life makes the comedy much more relatable.

That being said the funniest scene from Eddie might be from Harlem Nights, although it’s Arsenio who is shining on it:

the standup bit about johnny carson divorce/"half"

"but johnny was $300mil in when she met him... and im sure she knew"

"oh hey, im johnny"

"..i know who you are motherfucker.."

^^his delivery on that line always gets me

whatever funny inflections i might now have when telling a story, im sure i stole from that special

also worth mentioning..that story of him (maybe originally told by Chris Rock? sometime during 90s) in some LA vip section, he was out with his group/entourage, the women that snuck into his section and went straight up to him.. and he goes "whoa, you cant just go straight to me..you gotta get with one of these broke mf'ers first" lol

When he walks into town and tells Martin to walk with some pep in his step becaus they aint from around here and then starts yelling hello’s and says “cockadoodledoo nigga” that shit has me dying every time I hear it.

also, when they are old and in bed and Eddie keeps fucking with Martin about what he is doing with the boss.

Martin: Hope ya piss on ya self
Eddie: AND IF I DO, IMMA PUT THE SHEETS ON YOU”

Martin breaking character and laughing in the dark gets me every time.

Every time I see this movie on TV I have a hard time turning away from it.

“Can I suggest using your night stick officer” is a fucking classic line for me.

Also, when they describe pork bellies and dude breaks down what is in a BLT amd Eddie looks at the camera.

lastly, when Mortimer plants drugs in his desk and Eddie is throwing the pills out and then puts a joint in his pocket.

these are small moments but I still laugh hard as hell every time I see it.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
