What was the verdict on the first one?
Did people like it? I thought it was alright.
It was fun and had a bit of nostalgia to it that I enjoyed.

So they doubling down?

Ghostbusters 1&2 are primarily comedies where Afterlife is a fantasy movie with some, mild, comedic overtones thrown in sparingly.

I talked to people who liked Afterlife, but no one has expressed to me that they loved it,

Struck me as fine, but all nostalgia/fan service. No jokes or memorable new characters/adventures. The trailer for this one looks better to me visually, but still doesn’t excite me in the least.

Lots of people shit on the Lady Ghostbuster movie, but it was funny and I actually remember plenty of it.

This cast deserved better if the finished movie is as uninspiring as the trailer.

I'm extremely ambivalent on this franchise as a whole. And AFTERLIFE was a movie I enjoyed up until the halfway mark of second act where characters were doing dumbass shit for plot convenience and the nostalgia overload.

This was a franchise I had left behind in my childhood.

So going into this one, if it was great. Cool. If it sucked, oh well.

I has fun. It's extremely serviceable action-comedy that has more life in it than the previous one. It expands the world better than last one too. This definitely felt like GHOSTBUSTERS 3. FROZEN EMPIRE more than anything felt like an episode of the animated show come to life in live-action.

With that said, there's still a touch too much of nostalgic navel gazing going on and not everything works, even though this all comes together much better than AFTERLIFE.

If this is it, I'd be fine. If there's more cool.

Still pretty ambivalent on this franchise even though I had a good time.

Forgot to say that I'm good on seeing another Jason Reitman directed movie. Gil Kenan does a much better job.

200 mil worldwide on a 75 mil budget screams "just broke even, maybe made a little." Bigger budget this go around and a "who remembers the last movie?" vibe doesn't instill great confidence in me that this one'll hit.

It beats the really good one from Regal.

$39.99.

It’s sitting at my house, but he’s going to pick it up sometime this weekend. I haven’t taken it out of the plastic wrap but it’s pretty cool for a popcorn bucket.

There are something like fifteen to twenty characters here, but there are only somewhere between two and a half and three discernible character arcs for these actors to play. At the center of this movie is what was clearly written to be a sweet gay teenage love story, but instead they chicken out of actually calling it gay, so we're left with a crucial narrative plot point that's *entirely* out of character-- presumably because some studio executive decided nonsensical queerbaiting was better than risking exposing this horrific fanbase to one gay kiss.

Kenan's got a better eye than Reitman, and he knows the effects world well, so some of the ghosts look pretty cool. I actually thought after the first 10 minutes or so that I'd be into this. Alas, it gets over crammed, undercooked, packed with references to the old movies (why is Slimer here?)-- all the things you'd expect. And on top of it, it's rarely funny. Which is, y'know, the number one crime in a Ghostbusters movie, the same crime the previous movie committed.
