The chemistry of these guys is still evident, and I just like what they represent - at the time, Guardians 1 kind of redefined what was possible with the Marvel blockbusters

Hope they put this group to bed after this one, but I’m here for the third installment

maybe its the daytime and earth looking footage they keep highlighting but it seems really scaled down in terms of quality like that christmas special.

it doesnt feel like the follow up to a nearly $1 billion sequel.

This is the best Marvel joint in a long, long time. Actual sets and producing design. This is a James Gunn movie and not a Kevin Feige movie. Huge loss for the MCU that he's leaving.

PHas the scale of an Avengers movie with terrific action while also being a extended emotional, well-deserved finale for these characters.

Superman is in fine hands. The dramatic beats hit hard and the action is great. Even thr humor is based in character and situations rather than the usual self-deprecating look how silly this is Marvel humor. Helps that jokes are actually funny too.

Families be warned. This is a hard PG-13.

Absolutely see it in IMAX.

Like, outside of the first 20-30 minutes, in which we have to review everything from the Christmas special and set up all the shit, the movie's pretty straight up James Gunn. It's weird, it's got wonderfully offbeat design work, it's low-key cruel and mean, it's easily funnier than the others, and the effects work is really strong by recent MCU standards-- probably because Gunn had so much power following the outcry over his removal that he was able to say to them, "Nah, I *storyboard* my movies, and I'm not changing entire locations and costume designs in post," without getting overruled by the suits.

It's not as good as Guardians 1 or The Suicide Squad... but I had fun.

He said he likes to move the camera, so sets were built. In the The Volume, you can only use static shots.

GOTG3 comedic beats didn’t work as well as in the first two. The Holiday Special didn’t work as well as the first two comedically either. I’m thinking Gunn needs a co-writer for comedy.

Way too much arguing between characters throughout. Nebula had started to warm up on the ship in Endgame, they took her back to GOTG3 in terms of “unlikeability.”

Nice use of Mantis’ powers throughout.

Drax knowing the kids’ language seemed improbable

Editing could have been tightened up. Lot of lingering camera shots on Rocket that could have been cut down (the scene where he is dwelling on the baby raccoons instead of getting them the fuck outta there, for example)

Tearing off HE’s face was excessive and unnecessary. Taking the moral ground to not shoot a guy after tearing his face off seems ridiculous especially since he was a planetary level threat (as in he had already killed a planet full of people)

At the least, take the guy into custody and give him to….I guess the Nova Corps is gone but dude should have been in prison, not left faceless on a ship floor to possibly escape.

Adam Warlock sure took his time saving (extreme spoiler redacted)

Also thought dude would get a chance to avenge (minor spoiler redacted)

I liked it overall. Walked in late due to traffic in the middle of Adam Warlock fighting Drax so wonder how useful the opening minutes were because I didn’t feel like I missed anything

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)

First off - movies ending with forced dancing INSIDE the movie logic just are annoying to me. The way dancing was handled GotG2 was totally fine, but this was some end of Jedi dancing stuff times 2, just not logical inside of the movie. (The 40 Year Old Virgin, or Something About Mary placed great dance scenes in the credits, each in a different way.)

I also didn't like when Rocket was hurt the sequence of events where they'd travel somewhere then say "We have to go to place X to save Rocket's life!!!, and FAST!" Saying those things out loud in stilted dialogue instead of making me *feel* the urgency wasn't great.

This felt like Peacemaker's tone got into it sometimes. Maybe even some of the Christmas special.

It did NOT need the "Open the fucking door" line - again, seemed like Peacemaker's tone got in a GotG movies.

Linda Cardellini as Lylla was great (another actor playing more than one role in Marvel.)

The tone shifted a lot, maybe too much. Not as bad as Thor Love and Thunder - but yeah.

And what's with Gamora's Ravager group having a group hug? I remember Yondu and Taserface we're pawing at each other after a long day's work.

And not killing the high evolutionary was just plain stupid. Dude's going to come back at some point.

I enjoyed the film just fine, but I'm not sure if I'll be revisiting it much. (And I've watched Shang-Chi 3 times.)

Also, how did the tone shift? It seemed pretty somber throughout with some jokes peppered throughout. But it never undercut the tone. It was darker as they were dealing with A LOT including ending this trilogy. The dancing felt earned and bittersweet. We see characters dance all throughout the trilogy including the beginning of this one.

"Dr. Evil : No, Scott. I have an even better idea. I'm going to place him in an easily escapable situation involving an overly elaborate and exotic death."

I almost expected a Galaxy Quest like escape and re-appearance.

It felt the tone shifts were VERY clunky here, the exposition and dialogue TOLD me about motivations more than the acting or the actions did. It was clunky, for me.

I disagree with this STRONGLY. Dozens/hundreds of extras dancing around on a blue screen differs a lot from Gomorra sharing time with Starlord, or baby Groot dancing. It seemed it least 5 minutes of forced dancing without having earned it. (But hey, I've seen a lot of people who like this part online - it's just my opinion here.)

IT reminded me of the end of Jedi - which in real time I did not like. Or the false endings to the LOTR trilogy.

I'm still a thumbs up, and it got my money.

At that point, he's been shot multiple times, stabbed, beat the fuck up, and had his face ripped off. He was also weezing when Rocket decided not to kill him. That nigga was going nowhere.

Star-Lord has a whole ass dance during the opening credits of the first movie.

>And those were sets not green screens on Knowhere

Sorry, I meant dancing in a studio while CGI effects and characters and some backgrounds were composited for what seemed like 5 minutes.

Big difference , to me, than introducing Star Lord who's dancing while stealing an infinity stone showed us what type of character he would be. OR the "dance off" to distract Ronan. Or trying to get Gomorra to dance.

Nothing wrong with a little of this:
https://media.tenor.com/yG87DCz8GiUAAAAC/cosby-kids-yay.gif

Lots wrong with this for me:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEzc0VLiwQw

Because I didn't feel dancing triumphant at the point in the film.

Still recommend seeing it but some of the tone seemed off, and I felt a lot of it was clunky. (At least it didn't open with a scene and then cut to a card that said "3 days earlier.")

Looking at the comments on Youtube for the video I think I'm 1000% out of step though.

RE: Who are these vast majority?

Seems like the vast majority of people like the dancing at the end and think the movie is *great.*

I don't agree - but I think it's a good film. Just not great. Maybe below part 2 for me.

Yes, I saw Spider-verse twice.

This one's better than some of the other recent Marvel films, but still probably not going to be one *I* revisit often.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 writer/director James Gunn confirmed a fan theory surrounding the movie's villain, the High Evolutionary.

In an article from The Direct concerning an interview between Strip Marvel and Guardians 3 VX artist Miguel Ángel Acevedo Montserrat, Montserrat said Drax the Destroyer can be seen saving the High Evolutionary from the exploding Arête Laboratories among the animals that were escaping as well. As a response to the article, Gunn posted on Twitter, "For people who want the spoiler, what's pointed out in the article is very much in the movie." That said, it's currently unknown if the High Evolutionary will return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rivals the first one, but you can’t get to the 3rd without the first two. This is what happens when you let somebody talented finish their vision.

It’s a little long, but there was very little wasted time. I didn’t understand anything about Warlock and who he is, but I’ve read entire comic series with Warlock and didn’t understand who he is there either.

Maybe my expectations were too high. It wasn't bad but definitely my least liked of the trilogy. I think I was expecting for this one to make up for the recent movies but I think it ends up being on the lower end for movies after End Game for me. At least after one watching.

I went ahead and bought it to watch it, I'm sure seeing it in theaters would have helped. I might give it another watch soon see if I like it more.

The whole thing felt off to me and few really funny moments. There were funny moments but not on the same level as the first two.
