"Small Axe (McQueen, 2020)"

out on amazon prime today

The true story of The Mangrove Nine, who clashed with London police in

The heaviness of Mangrove was offset by the release felt in Lovers Rock. Looking forward to the remaining episodes.

Didn't realize the Mangrove film was 2 hours.
Definitely solid.

just a great ensemble cast that delivered a lot of great performances... i also love the pauses Steve McQueen makes the actor take allow us to fully feel the gravity of the situation....

I grew up with "Do-Overs" and such and didn't understand the contribution of British artists, but I knew Lover's Rock from going to dancehalls in my teens....but seeing it in its natural environment and hearing some of the old songs....that shit was everything. Beautiful filmmaking.

im haitian and grew up around tons of west indians and the way that episode was shot brought back so many memories of house parties i've went to when i was younger.... mad respect to Steve McQueen for repping the culture with so much authenticity.... i mean just the mere fact that the BBC allowed him to play long ass sequences like that.... that shit blew my mind.... beautiful

The history, the scene, the shooting, the charatcers.

What I loved most is how there were featured characters, but it really captured the essence of how when you go to a house party like that -- everyone is the star and in the spotlight of their own show---but then also in community.
