Very, very well done first episode. I've got no problem with them continuing to lean into Western themes. Opening scene at the fight club was very well done. Happy that the returned to Tatooine. Story and action were both top notch. And Olyphant doing his Raylan Givens thing always works. And they didn't use The Child as a crutch or Deus Ex Machina.

It was fucking awesome to finally see Krayt Dragon, after reading so much about them in the expanded universe stuff that I got into. All of its appearances, especially the big battle at the end, were damn near perfectly executed.

As for the "reveal" at the end, I know the obvious answer is its Boba Fett (give than the armor is clearly is his), but I'm kind of hoping that it's just another clone. Be it Captain Rex or some other rando.

Happily all in for the season.

But what's really great is that they took the storyline from Chuck Wendig's Aftermath trilogy where he created Cobb Vanth and his back story finding the armour. Great that we get him in live action. Interesting to see where they go with Boba but at least this creates a reason now for more story on him rather than the rumours before it just didn't make sense to see more of him. This def creates reasonable interest to see it unfold. I love that now the actor is back for this that we can also play Rex if they ever choose to bring him into the show or another.

The flying! This looked much better than it did in seaoson 1. Looked more natural this time around. That whole fight scene was crazy. Nothing to complain about.

How about that easter egg of Cobb riding alongside Mando on his man made speeder built out of 1 engine of Anakin's speed racer pod!!!! fuck yeah.

Absolutely. There’s a great story waiting to happen here. Obviously Boba is going to want to go after Din to get his armor back. Whether he gives it back or not (and how) is going to depend on how Din views Boba as being Mandalorian. And they seems to be the overall major theme of this show - what is a “true” Mandalorian. Honestly the way Cobb Vanth was played in this espisode I’m wondering if Din doesn’t end up giving the armor back to him. He was using it to protect others, and fought/negotiated with honor. Once Din meets other Mandalorians from other clans like Sabine who are fine with taking off their helmets, maybe he starts to question his own view of being a Mandalorian as too narrow.

Which brings us back to Boba Fett. I’d imagine that in this story we finally get clarification on whether Jango Fett was actually a Mandalorian or if Almec from the Clone Wars was correct about him being someone “just wearing the armor”. That being said, I hope we don’t get TOO much info on Boba. I like him still having some mystery...

The krayt dragon lived in an abandoned sarlacc pit and the marshall said he’d eaten the sarlac. Given that it takes 1000 years for the sarlac to digest something Boba was still alive in there when the krayt dragon ate it, and Boba was able to escape during the chaos.

Boba also had Sandpeople weapons in that reveal at the end, so he may have been even living among them.

There was one sand person who was sitting away just looking at Mando when he was sittting with them talking. Didnt notice it at first but that would be cool if Boba was right in front of Mando the whole time. I did think it was weird the amount of interaction they showed im those montages of Mando communicating with the sand people.

Wish this would've been the Halloween episode. And it was directed by Peyton Reed which was a huge plus.

that being said I didn't completely bitch out this episode. I think it's cause the spiders didn't have realistic faces.

overall great episode. Mando might be my favorite right now. I love the western stuff too

I'm still of the standpoint that Filoni should've been the one to write and possibly direct the last three films.

At this point, Disney has to see that he and JF have what it takes to make continue the franchise and take it in a new direction while giving hardcore fans what they want.

The Mandalorian scripts are give or take especially when you have a character who speaks as minimally as possible but if he should write whatever story the next trilogy is based on and go from there. He has probably thought more about Star Wars than anyone outside of Young Lucas and having someone so committed to the canon will prevent directors and writers from cutting corners.

Relatively short and to the point, advanced the story and set up even more pieces. Great world building, character building, and action. I guess they're going to lean pretty hard into Clone Wars all season, which is fine, because they're making it understandable for anyone who hasn't seen it either.

Awesome half hour of TV.

about him and the audience learning what it means to be a Mandalorian. We’re getting all these examples of different ways to be a Mandalorian - from last seasons group, to Din himself who has already somewhat changed from his upbringing in the convent, to Cobb Vanth in ep 1 who was wearing the armor and not even claiming to be Mandalorian, but earning Din’s respect (and I think that by the end of the season he’ll actually get that armor back), to Bo Katan’s group educating Din on the history hidden from him, potentially Sabine, Baby Yoda who is a foundling, and finally Boba Fett.

The end of this episode was big - with Bo Katan saying “this is the way” to Din and him responding in kind. He’s acknowledging that she is Mandalorian, ironically also acknowledging that there is more than one “way”.

I mean we saw him take his helmet off to eat in that one episode last season, but he’s gotta be on an EXTREME intermittent fasting regimen not wanting to take his helmet off. He had that entire trip in the cockpit with Frog Lady. Does he take it off when just with the kid? Did he have a little straw or something so he can drink food packets?

So at this point we know Din is headed to find Ahsoka. Likely won’t see her in the next episode - since that’s directed by Carl Weathers I’d guess that Chapter 12 will be about the journey to Ahsoka, and him picking up Greef and Cara on the way. Chapter 13 is directed by Filoni - so it would make sense that Ahsoka is in that one.

The interesting thing to me is the question of where Ahsoka and Sabine are in their quest to find Ezra at this point in the timeline. It wouldn’t have been long before this that they connected to start that quest(from the Rebels finale) because it was after Endor (ROTJ). So if Bo Katan knows her exact location, are they back from finding Ezra? Something like that wouldn’t be spoiled in a subplot of the Mandalorian, so my guess is we won’t see much of Ahsoka and Sabine here so that stays a mystery. Taking that guess a step further, Ahsoka will likely not take the Child and tell Din that he belongs with him (or give him a clue to the homeworld of the species) because they wouldn’t just separate Din and the child this early in the show.

There is no way the first full episode of Ahsoka is not directed by Filoni. I think he has said it himself in the past that for her to come to live action he would have to be doing it. At the most we get a reveal at the very end of the next episode where we all bust a nerd nut in unison. I’m going to assume they want to do a spin off show with her and Filoni will prob be in charge of it.

I agree on all of this Filoni, has to do the Ahsoka centric episode. The only way it would work, I mean she's his creation.

It would be interesting how they would handle this since at the end of Rebels *Spoiler Alert: Ezra was with Thrawn and I assume Thrawn went to Chiss space which is beyond the Outer Rim) I figure they slightly mention it or they set it up that Ashoka can't take the child because she and Sabine are prepping to go look for Ezra.

Taking that guess a step

I doubt they do anything with the child for at least two more seasons. It seems like such an important element to the story that just dropping him off would seem off.

They should have left out to get Ezra around 5 years before this. The Mandalorian takes place 5 years after the Battle of Endor (ROTJ), and Ahsoka and Sabine left to find Ezra right after the Empire fell. So with around 4-5 years in between they definitely would have been gone, and if Bo Katan knows where Ahsoka is they must be back.

So that would mean, either they found Ezra or they didn't. Maybe she'll mention there was another but she couldn't find him or something. The fate of Ezra and Thrawn still bother me so much, I want to know what happened?

Did Thrawn just peace out on the whole empire thing and didn't link up with The First Order and took what he learned to the Chiss? Is Ezra there helping after understanding what the Chiss were trying to do since there are other dangers past the Outer Rim (no I'm not talking about the Y.V.)?

that the planets, sets, scenes feel like they are small because of shooting in the Volume? My best description would be it that it doesn't feel like every scene is shot in a diorama

The worlds do feel much bigger so far in every scene compared to the 1st (which IMO only felt like that in certain parts)

more from the volume after shooting the first season, and increased budget for special effects. The x-wing chase from the last episode and the almost crash landing from this one were straight up blockbuster film quality effects. And some of that stuff is completely separate from using the volume for set shooting...

Wow - one of my favorite episodes of this series so far. Carl Weathers did his thing directing this.

Random side note - I had to laugh that right after I was talking about Mando never eating we see him tilt his helmet up to slurp down some soup or something...

It really encompasses everything that defines this show. The plot of this episode is essentially a side quest that moves Mando forward in his overall mission. His quest is to get the Child to his kind. At this point he's on his was to take the Child to Ahsoka, but his ship needs to be repaired. Side quest!

But this episode takes that "side quest" vibe and is able to very successfully move the plot further in unexpected ways. We reconnect with Greef and Cara, we get some of the best worldbuilding of the series - more awareness of the status of both the Imperial remnants and the New Republic.

We get story callbacks from all over the first season, and also some nice possible foreshadowing of the future. Will Cara end up joining with the New Republic? Maybe the Resistance in the future? Now that the Empire is gone from Navaro, it's likely going to expand as a major trading post in the outer rim, with Greef in charge.

We continue to get absolutely amazing action scenes for a TV show. That speeder chase/tie chase/Razor Crest save was incredible - they just keep dishing out movie blockbuster level action and effects.

On top of ALL THIS, we also get major plot revelations regarding the big question from the first season - what does Gideon want with the Child. They perfectly integrated this into all of the action of the episode. We see Dr. Pershing's transmission talking about his midichlorian count (great world building to hear him call it "m-count" for short), Mando and the crew find out Moff Gideon is still alive, we see the failed experimental bodies in the tanks, we see Gideon with Dark Troopers or something, etc.

We're at the point in the season where we can REALLY see it building towards a huge climax - Gideon is tracking the Razor Crest and Mando is heading towards Ahsoka. but in addition to that we know that Bo-Katan is looking for Gideon to get the dark saber - Greef will want to be sure the Empire is completely gone, the New Republic may also get into the mix to get rid of Gideon (again showing how the spider episode was important - introducing us to Paul Sun-Hyung Lee's character and letting us know that some of those X-Wing pilots are cool and may help Mando), etc. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Mando ends up giving the Boba Fett armor back to Cobb Vanth so he also ends up helping in some way.

Last point, just a subtle example of how good of a job Carl Weathers did directing this. When Mando left his ship with Greef's crew to get repaired, the camera lingered on that one mechanic JUST the perfect amount of time. Got my attention that he may end up doing something shady, but was quick enough that I totally forgot about it until we saw him talking to Greef about the tracking device at the end. Just a beautiful setup for another setup into the next episode.

Weathers directed an excellent episode and we got some more insight into the story. The episodes just keep getting better and better honestly.

The world-building is classic Filoni stuff. He's doing what he did with Clone Wars and Rebels with this series and it shows that this can could build for multiple seasons.

Callbacks were perfect, but I want to know where the doctor was. Was he still on the planet? They just blew up the facility so did he go down with it?

The stuff with Cara Dune was nice and it opens up for them to write her character off, seeing all the backlash she's getting from the show fans for her MAGAtard tweets. I had the biggest crush on that woman and now I'm just looking at her like "you not securing ya bag with ya tweets."

Anyway, seeing that the New Republic is out there but seemingly those that are posted in the Outer Rim seem to be on their own helps explain how the First Order could rise. Not sure if the New Republic is spread thin or the Core just doesn't care cause Palpatine is dead and most of the Empire fell. But the description that the pilot gives, they just think it's scattered warlords or something paints the picture well.

Now Gideon is tracking Mando and the child, the next stop is Ashoka, so do we get an Ashoka vs Gideon stand-off? Does Mando find the tracking device in time or do we get a season-ender with all parties coming together for a big fight? I'm excited about what's next and I'm also totally fine with once-a-week episodes, it makes me relish the next one more.

So my thought is *Spoiler Alert* Moff is working on them Palpatine clones? He's a true believer in the First/Final Order and his work is to bring Palp's back. That's my only though.

Either Gideon is working for Palpatine and this is the beginning of the first/final order like you mentioned - that officer at the end talking to the mechanic said something like “you’ll be remembered in what is next to come which could have been shorthand for First Order. Also the officer from the last episode biting a suicide pill definitely had First Order cult vibes.

Or, Gideon is on his own trying to take power and build the next empire. His uniform looks like he’s trying to be a fake Vader. So maybe he wants to inject himself with force-sensitive blood to make himself the next Vader, with the darksaber as his weapon.

It's a bigger spectacle and that's cool, 2020 has been short on special effects and big set pieces. But the vibe has been more on the Tatooine episode/Bill Burr episode this season with some pretty shoddy on-foot choreography and Marvel-lite dialogue.

It's good popcorn TV but I'll always want more silent protagonist, clueless wandering like the first couple episodes rather than tie-ins to a cartoon and a (very good looking) paint by numbers chase sequence.

Also, Amy Sedaris and Gina Carano are doing what's being asked of them but man does it suck.

acting. It's fine in the action scenes, and of course her fight scenes specifically are great. But outside of that it's pretty bad. The scene when Mando landed and reunited with them and she was just walking around smiling was just terrible acting and took me out. It read like Gina was just smiling, happy to be on set and not Cara just smiling happy about Mando being back and showing off the progress of the planet...

That's the pattern on other TV sci-fi shows. They're be 4 episodes of Battlestar Galactica with very little big action - and then 1 with a CRAZY amount.

Like they had $20 million to spend on 5 episodes, so they did $2 million for 4 of them, and then $12 million for the last.

It's that I didn't expect this show to be the vehicle to explain how Rey could revive Ren, or wrap up loose ends from a cartoon that already ran 7 seasons, or explain where Snoke came from.

I'm not, like, mad about it, but the show was cooler when Mando had a five word limit and it was a more personal journey. I was excited for a Star Wars thing that was lowkey and small-time, but I guess Disney can't help themselves and judging by the response here and elsewhere on the rest of the net they're doing the right thing...it's just not what I got excited about, and that's fine.

While still being its own thing is quite the accomplishment. Being disappointed bu your own expectations is a diff convo. Filoni and Fav are showing why and where this franchise needs to go while still innovating and being its own thing. Yea even with “fan service” call backs. Sorry but you can't just ignore the history of the property and do something entirely different to keep the franchise going. That would be terrible.

The more this show pivots to "what's up with GROGU" the emptier its calories get for me.

Chapter 13 was the best looking episode of this series yet but it seems pretty clear to me at this point that the title character of this show is just supposed to be a kind of viewer avatar for all this background stuff from the Skywalker story. But from the moment GROGU showed up, I hoped that'd be a couple episode arc at best. Narrative wise it's been diminishing returns for me ever since Mandalorian did the thing every character ever in this position does and goes back for the kid rather than the more interesting, unique thing and left it behind after finishing his mission.

Edit: To be totally clear though, I think Andy Greenwald put it perfectly last week in his recap when he followed a bunch of confusion and nitpicks about the show with "but the beauty of this show is I don't care, it's entertaining and I just don't care". It kinda sucks that Star Wars gave up on being a unique, actually interesting piece of television but it's also totally cool that it rejected prestige in favor of popcorn and silly Star Wars bullshit. I'm the guy that walked out of Rise of Skywalker feeling weirdly pleased because it thrashed the franchise so thoroughly it was astonishing and kind of an accidental masterpiece of trash. And now I'm fully freed from caring about Star Wars being capable of doing anything other than killing time between waking up and nodding off with stellar sound design and neat costumes.

I'd be disappointed myself if this show turns into explaining where Snoke/Palpatine came from. I posted above that it could end up being connected in some way to the First Order, or it could end up being that Moff Gideon is on his own and trying to be the next Vader. The more I think of it, the more the latter is likely.

At this point in the timeline, the Imperial remnant that ended up becoming the First Order had already assembled after the Battle of Jakuu in the Unknown Regions. If Gideon is still out here in the Outer Rim though, he's not in that group and is more likely on his own trying to amass power.

I also don't think "tying up loose ends" from the Clone Wars will be a big focus at ALL here. But the Mandalorian angle is absolutely connected to Mando's story, and him finding out both who he is and what being a Mandalorian means seems to be the overall focus of the story.

If done right, the connections will work to make the Star Wars universe feel more expansive and "real". If done wrong, they make the universe seem more small. But judging how Filoni has handled connected story elements in the past I trust him.

A lot to talk about. i don't even know where to start. But I'll say this - I was VERY impressed that they actually managed to recreate Ahsoka's unique fighting style in live action. Everything to her form and style with the lightsabers, to the athletic moves jumping off the walls was all so perfectly done.

That boss fight with her and the magistrate reminded me so much of the last fight in Kill Bill 1 because of the peaceful garden setting.

There are so many questions I have. I mentioned earlier that I expected this to be a backdoor pilot for Ahsoka and the search for Ezra. With the reveal at the end that she is still looking for Thrawn, lets. think about what that means. We are 4 or 5 years after Ahsoka and Sabine left looking for Ezra. If at this point she is looking for Thrawn, not in the unknown regions, I'd think that indicates that she found them both and at least Thrawn returned in some way - because if the magistrate knew his location it wouldn't make sense that he was still missing from the Rebels finale.

Which means there are two stories to be told - the search for Ezra after ROTJ, and this search for Thrawn from now going forward. Notice the magistrate mentioned Mandalorians and Jedi being longtime enemies. (Side note, very interesting that she knows more about this part of Mandalorian history than Mando or even the armorer.) If she thought reminding him that Ahsoka should be his enemy would work, she must have not seen Ahsoka working with Sabine. So where is Sabine at this point? And where is Ezra? Is Ahsoka looking for Thrawn for revenge, or to find them? So many questions...

...in my wheelhouse. Very well done and beautifully shot. Also happy Michael Biehn is getting some work, though he looks like he's done some hard living. And it was the right time to start revealng Grogo's back story.

Also, fuck yeah @ Thrawn. The Heir to the Empire series was central to my upbringing, and even though it's not cannon anymore, I still want to see the character. I will note that I'm completely unfamiliar with his appearances in "Rebels," but I doubt that will effect me. Regardless, I'm more excited for this episode as a backdoor pilot than a potential Cara Dune show.

Dawson was excellent as Ashoka. It felt like a Clone Wars episode, to be honest, and it would make sense that it did with Filoni directing it. I enjoyed every moment.

*Spoiler*
My only gripe, Why did Michael Bien have to go? I wanted that character to come back later. I'd like for a reoccurring antagonist or two to come back in future episodes.

In response to Reply # 74

For Ahsoka to be ending the episode all happy and content, she must have gotten the info she wanted on Thrawn. But the entire village was also happy, with the prisoners freed and that one dude out back in charge. So did Ahsoka get the information and somehow get her to leave? Did she go dark and kill her anyways? Did the magistrate kill herself? We probably won’t get an answer unless there is an Ahsoka series that goes into her quest.

more than likely locked up. I don't think Ashoka would just let her leave, she was still a rich and powerful person so she'd just come back and I'm sure Ashoka wouldn't just murder her after getting the information she wanted.

I don't even know if Favreau would want to have the role of being over everything Star Wars. But what makes the Mandalorian special IMO is the combination of Filoni's knowledge of SW and storywriting along with Favreau's knowledge of filmmaking.

I really think Fav is there to mentor Filoni on his filmmaking skills. Although I agree that it might be better with both of them taking on that job which would allow Fav to do his other projects by offloading some of the work to Filoni when needed.

After the latest episode, we've decided that when this 2nd season is over we're gonna go watch the animated CloneWars series too...

The squad he’s putting together to go get Grogu is about to be incredible. We know he’ll have Boba, Fennec Shand, Cara, and Bill Burr’s character. I definitely expect Bo-Katan to show up with her Manadalorian crew since she’s also hinting Gideon for the dark saber. So right off the rip you have three different variations of elite Mandalorians with Din, Bo-Katan, and Boba Fett.

In addition to that, does Ahsoka come to help? What about the Jedi that Grogu was able to reach out to? Honistly Grogu himself will be a force to be reckoned with the way he was throwing those Stormtroopers around...

The way they brought Boba Fett back was straight up genius. And explaining/reconciling his backstory within a couple lines of dialogue. (For my Clone Wars peeps now we know Almec was a lying bastard.)

this season has way more hit than miss and these last two episodes have been especially fantastic.

That was also the best thing Robert Rodriguez has done in like 20 years. He's kind of perfect for this level of filmmaking this kind of film/TV hybrid. He brings an energy and verve to the action scenes in this episode that works perfectly here but he's failed to do in any of his films post-Desperado. This is like the perfect-size sandbox for him and he's constrained from cutting corners by it being a Star Wars property.

I appreciated the Boetticher-vibe of the locale. Boba Fett's reintroduction was perfect. That was, in my mind, the best action sequence in the show and they've had some great ones this season.

I'm an old school Star Wars fan so I know fuck-all about any of the expanded mythology they're playing with so I don't get the same sense of joy that some of the other folks here get from seeing characters from Clones/Rebels realized and tied in. But what I DO get from this show that none of the recent Star Wars films (with the exception of Rogue One) have done is give the universe a sense of scale and life. My favorite thing is it knows when to shut up and slow down and give us small, quiet moments to marvel at the worlds, the characters and the little details.

I'm looking forward to rewatching these last two episodes again as much as I am looking forward to final two episodes. I also think they're on track for an absolutely killer third season.

I was mad when he didnt see the last few episodes so i couldnt discuss witj him but when he finally watched them he went full SW nerd on me.

The name Thrawn didn’t move me at all but he knows all that clone war old school spin off shit from the 90’s books.

One thing he hated about SW trilogies is the tellinof the same damn story a million diff ways. Death Star!!!!

I think this is why I loved Rogue One so much. You can really go anywhere with some of these characters stories while also referencing the larger story arch. Which makes it much more enjoyable IMO.

I really hope Disney keeps this momentum and does it with other characters.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

Ha, Thrawn is the one name I do know because I actually read some of the EU books back when I was a young bol. I don't remember much but I was like "Oh shit, I know that name!"

But I legit had no idea who Bo-Katan was. I don't even think I knew she was from the animated shows until after the episode.

I agree about Rogue One, which I loved when I saw it in theaters. I've liked it less on subsequent viewings but that's largely because of some of the seams start showing.

But it definitely injected some much needed freshness into the universe and expanded things making the universe feel large and lived in with an endless well of stories to tell.

I was actually tempted to start watching Clone Wars and Rebels to get a better understanding of what's going on but I just can't truck w/ the animation style.

Hope you enjoy this most recent episode as me and everyone else here

Got one of my boys watching Clone Wars right now and it's clearing up so much stuff from this show. I can't wait til he gets on to rebels.

But Filoni did what others couldn't he can tell stories outside of the main narrative of SW and not recycle the same stuff over and over. He's doing it here. Give him the keys!

in order. There are a bunch of lists out there about essential episodes to watch. The animation (and overall feel) got MUCH MUCH better after season 1 and by season 3 was really top notch.

If you watch the Mandalore/Darth Maul/Savage Opress story arc that would be great backstory for Mandalorian and might hook you on going back to watch the rest of the Clone Wars.

Dude from Rogue One was taking out Stormtroopers left and right with just a staff and he was BLIND.

The one thing that’s overpowered to me is beskar - Mando can take all kinds of direct hits from blasters and zero damage. Even against Ahsoka’s two lightsabers - I could see lightsaber “resistant” but that stuff is impenetrable...

I mean honestly, Mando seems to be the only one that's rocking all pure Beskar. Everyone else is still ducking and covering. It does look like it takes a toll cause when he gets hit too many times he starts to slow down and grunt. But overall it's unobtainium.

The storytelling in this is what makes it so good. The conversation between Mayfield and Mando about how the New Republic/Empire is no different in the way its impact has on the people and the Mando are no Different when it comes to surviving.

The action was on point, that transport fight was great. Nice to see Mando got hands.

I got more to say about it but I just had to get this out fresh after watching.

I don't even know how to express how dope this show is. They've figured out the perfect way to do Star Wars - getting dope directors and letting them execute their vision, while the overarching story is handled in a way that is cohesive and feels like Star Wars.

Each director has their own style elements that really come out. Rick Famuyiwa in this one killed it in this one...the dialogue was so good. You have the continuing evolution of Din coming to terms with what the Mandalorian creed even means - he's getting closer and closer to just doing away with the mask thing. And that conversation - absolute PERFECT way to use Bill Burr's humor in calling out the bs that he's fine going away from the creed when he needs to. Then you see the different fighting style in this episode with Din not in his armor...also a completely different style of directing action vs. Rodriguez last week or Filoni, or Bryce Dallas Howard, but all of these stylistic differences make sense.

I saw an interview with Robert Rodriguez about last week's episode. He was brought in to direct, and the script was already there but was short - but they had him fill it out with additional action. I'm wondering if that's common on this show, with some episodes being filled out with additional dialogue, and others additional action, but the overall story all having been handled by Favreau/Filoni so everything makes sense.

With all of yesterday's announcements, I hope they've learned that is the way to handle Star Wars - the overall vision needs to fit into the same universe. I've read that the Lucasfilm Story Group wasn't involved much at all with the sequel trilogy. It definitely sounds like it, with Favreau/Filoni having three series in this era that all tie in together.

did acting in this episode. Separate from his humor fitting in perfectly, that scene with him and the Imperial officer talking about Operation Cinder was really well done. You could really see all of the internal dialogue in his head as he was coming to terms with the atrocities of the Empire and what he was personally involved in.

For those who haven't played Battlefront II, Operation Cinder was the contingency plan that Palpatine had in place for the Empire after his death. To summarize, if the Empire was unable to keep Palpatine alive, it didn't deserve to keep living itself. There were satelites put in place over several loyal Imperial planets, and they were attacked via orbital bombardment. Millions (more likely billions?) of people were killed - both Imperial troops and citizens.

Bill Burr knocked it out of the park. They took a character that could've been a throw-away jokey type and gave him depth. Burr took that and ran with it.

The directing this season has been excellent. I don't think there was a single episode I didn't like.

This show is a great way to fill in holes for people that didn't read any of the novels or play the games since the sequel films. It really does a great job showing how the first order came to be. Also, it's obvious now that Grogu is being used to help do one of two things: create Snoke clones and bring Palapatine back.

With the new shows, it certainly appears they are laying the groundwork for these last couple of episodes.

Oh and Bobba dropping the mine on those two TIE Fighters, gave me chills. Brought me right back to that scene in AOTC when Jango was dropping them on Obi Wan.

Mostly because I find "Will Mando show his face?" the least interesting part of the story.

That said, the "train robbery" section of the episode was dope, and Mayfield's conversation with the imperial officer was extremely well done.

the episode to me. The title of the episode was "The Believer". That directly refers to Mayfield, but also applies to Din and the Imperial officer.

Mayfield started off the episode talking about there being no difference between the Empire and the New Republic - with both being "ruling" entities. But then during that conversation with Hess he's reminded about the atrocities of the Empire killing thousands of it's own officers and loyal citizens, with Hess being proud of it. Mayfield gets converted into being a "believer.

In that same conversation, we see that Hess is a true believer in the ideals of the Empire. It wasn't just a job to him, but a belief system. Even after Palpatine was gone and the Empire had fallen, he still believed that the Empire was right, and that people really wanted/needed "order" - even if that meant losing their lives to make that happen.

Finally you have Din, who has been going through a full season arc of questioning his beliefs. Really it's been a two season arc - he's a completely different person now vs the beginning of the series when he was a ruthless bounty hunter living by the creed of the Children of the Watch. Meeting Bo-Katan and realizing that his belief system has been set by what is a cult has him rethinking his beliefs. Then in this episode Mayfield directly questions his beliefs with the question of whether he can't take off his helmet or he can't show his face. When he shows his face to the terminal, we see that he's willing to let more and more of that belief system go to get Grogu back. Speaking of Grogu - notice that over the last few episodes he's moved away from talking about the quest of getting him to a Jedi, and more towards treating him as his son.

This was some really good, tight storytelling. Props to Rick F. on the writing and direction.

Spoilers for the finale of course...

Okay, so if “The Book of Boba” comes out December 2021, then that must actually be season 3 of The Mandalorian. They already said season 3 was dropping that month, and they wouldn’t have a separate Boba show release at the same time as Din’s show. The “Book” title plays perfectly with the way episodes are chapters.

At this point, the “book” of Din and the kid is over since Grogu left with Luke. Not saying we won’t see them again - from the investor meeting announced shows we know that the Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Rangers shows will be interconnected within the same time line and will build together towards something. But Din’s main character arc is pretty much over at this point - he was able to get Grogu to a Jedi to be trained, and he also has come to terms with his identity as a Mandalorian with him moving away from strict adherence to the creed of the sect he was part of. I can definitely see him showing up in these stories going forward, but I’d doubt he’ll be the main character.

Unless...maybe the next season or two is focused on Boba and the underworld with him ruling over the Hutt empire, but after a couple years they return to Din and have Grogu join him after being trained a bit. They will need to have him leave Luke at some point before Ben Solo burns down the temple and kills Luke’s students. No way Disney let’s Grogu go out like that.

The one other story possibility is with Bo-Katan and the Darksaber. Din doesn’t want to rule Mandalore. He also promised her that he’d help her take it back after this mission. She needs to defeat him in combat to earn the Darksaber, but how does that work if he has no desire to keep it? Gideon is also still alive...

Don't forget he still has the Darksaber, so technically he has sway with other Mandalorians, so we could expect to see him in Ashoka's show (if they bring in Sabine). But I'm sure he's going to show up in the Book of Boba. He's still a bounty hunter.

I'm sure the Boba show is going to be about him getting back to being on top of things. I mean he was at one point the most feared Bounty Hunter in the Galaxy so it's either he gets back on top of things or he has to deal with those coming to make a name for themselves by killing Fett.
He may run into some trouble with the Hutts, but he's not going to rule the Hutt Empire. Jaba was just one of many Hutts and by the time of the series they weren't that large of a threat in the Galaxy.

I'm not sure what they do with Grogu, given by the time Ben destroys the New Jedi Order it's like 20years after ROTJ so he can come back. But if the focus is no longer on Din, I don't see why they would need to bring him back its seems like that book is closed.

So I think that Gideon and the stuff with Bo-Katan make it into the Rangers of the Republic series. Which at that point would make it since that the Din will appear in all three shows making him the connective tissue

>He's still a bounty

This is the potentially interesting story element. He feels like a completely different person now vs. the beginning of the series when he was just a mercenary. Is he really still a bounty hunter at this point? He could go to that planet from season 1 and live in that village with the one lady and her daughter and "retire" now that Grogu is safely with the Jedi. He does still owe Bo-Katan since he told her he'd help take Mandalore back. He has the Darksaber, but doesn't want the title that comes with it, so that will need to be resolved in some way.

My guess is that we don't see Grogu again until the series finale. We'll have three shows going on telling stories within the era, and as you mentioned Din can show up as the connection between them. Helping out Cara and the New Republic on the rangers show, meeting back with Boba, etc...with Thrawn maybe being the "Thanos" of this cinematic universe. (Speaking of which, What if Thrawn has turned Ezra to helping him out, and Luke also comes into play??? This could be the OG Thrawn trilogy coming to life again.)

Anyways back to Grogu - after all of that resolves they could close the overall story out with Din retired on that planet, and Grogu showing uo having left the Jedi, choosing to return to his father after getting some training and saving him from the fate of Luke's students at the new Jedi temple.

Good point, Bo-Katan did drop that line "We're not all Bounty Hunters" so maybe he re-thinks it, but at the same time you could see the wheels turning when Gideon was talking about Bo-Katan. I think we forget how ruthless she can be so he could go either way. But I doubt he goes and settles down on that planet from S1. He may work to restore Mandalore, cause... This is the way.

I'm with you on not seeing Grogu until the end of the series. Not sure if Thrawn would be the big bad of all of these series. It seems the First Order will be the big bad. Rumor is they're talking about having Lars Mikkelsen actually play the live-action role since he voiced the character on Rebels. I figure Mando is just going to end up either Helping Bo-Katan take back and defend Mandalore.

I could see them defeating Thrawn and rescuing Ezra and Ezra takes Grogu with him. That's if Grogu comes back from being with Luke.

She wanted that cruiser so she could go retake Mandalore. She could convince Din to come with her since he owes her, and act like she's letting him keep the Darksaber, and then once they restore Mandalore directly challenging him for it. Maybe "season 3" is the book of Boba, and the immediately drop season 4 afterwards with the story of retaking Mandalore along with Din vs. Bo-Katan?

I don't know. But this is the most excited I've been about Star Wars overall since the leadup to Force Awakens.

And that they just didn’t want to spoil the finale by announcing Boba having a show especially after they announced so much at the investors meeting already, what’s one surprise.

I just don't think they'd drop a season of Mandalorian and a separate season of Boba the same month. I'm not saying they won't have multiple shows on at the same time in the future, but it would be weird to have concurrent shows that are in the same time period, both led by Mandalorian bounty hunters. That would get confusing for casual fans really quick.

I really think that season 3 of Mandalorian IS "Book of Boba Fett" with Din only showing up as a side character within the connected universe.

The challenges Mando and co. faced were much scarier. Almost all the supporting characters were fun and I can’t wait for this Boba Fett series. One of the best post or mid-credits scenes ever.

Edit: kinda split on the appearance of Luke. It got me hyped for sure, and he makes sense as the trainer for Grogu, but kinda annoying that they keep going back to the Skywalker well. I doubt they use virtual young Luke much going forward though, so whatever. I wonder if this officially means they’re wiping Episodes 7-9 from continuity though. I’ve seen rumors of that and it’d be lame if so.

The de-aging CGI seemed to me to be not as good as what was done in Rogue One. He looked too young, and also a bit like a video game cutscene. I really noticed on my second watch.

Beyond that I thought it was PERFECT. Yes I don’t want them to go to the Skywalker thing too much, but it totally made sense here. If Ahsoka wasn’t comfortable training Grogu, the one person it would make sense to train him would be Luke, who is a Grand Master with a Jedi academy at this point. If you have Grogu go to the seeing stone and call out for any Jedi, Luke makes sense to hear that call more than anyone else alive at this time.

There’s also no way they “retcon” the sequel trilogy. When you think about it, everything that happened in episodes 7-9 was a pretty short window of time. Episode 7 and 8 were a few days total, with a small jump forward to 9 within maybe a year total? There is a LOT of story to be told still between ROTJ and TFA, and I think Disney will just focus on that time period and eventually the future beyond episode 9, without a “retcon”.

I agree. I wasn’t bothered by the Rogue One de-aging at all, but this one looked pretty bad.

If you
>have Grogu go to the seeing stone and call out for any Jedi,
>Luke makes sense to hear that call more than anyone else alive

Yeah, it would be worse if they just introduced a new Jedi no one had ever heard of before. I just don’t want to see a whole series about bad CGI Luke training a puppet lol.

>
>There’s also no way they “retcon” the sequel trilogy.

I certainly hope not. As bad as ROS was it wasn’t bad enough to justify a retcon. It’s just that when I see Luke about to train Grogu, but then realize Grogu was never seen or mentioned in the new trilogy it makes me worry that a retcon is in the works. There’s other ways to explain his absence though, like how they’ve sorta explained Ashoka’s absence from the original trilogy.

If before this season you told me that we’d have Cobb Vanth, Bo-Katan, Ahsoka, Boba Fett, AND Luke Skywalker all showing up I would have been pissed about it being full of cameos. There were rumors about Ahsoka and Boba Fett showing up and that there would be an opportunity for spin-offs, and I thought that was a terrible idea. But then they pulled it all off in a story that made sense as one narrative, and somehow never took away from Din’s story.

So yeah - I trust Favreau and Filoni to play with this entire era and bring us all kinds of fresh stories that will still fit into all the existing canon while taking us unexpected places. Knowing Filoni and what he did with Clone Wars and the prequels, they may even put a different point of view on some of what happened in the sequels, adding depth and perspective to the story without contradicting anything.

Also with the officer on the ship from the Bo-Katan episode. At this point in the timeline, there seems to be a mix within the imperial ranks of officers/troops who have a cult-like belief in the Empire vs. those who are just doing their jobs. During the OT era it was much more homogenized - but it would absolutely make sense for this era to show that there’s a shift. The imperials choosing to stay in line after Endor and Palpatine’s death, along with Operation Cinder and many of the super loyal officers leaving for the unknown regions would be extremists from a relative standpoint.

So you have people like that officer who killed the two pilots and then committed suicide before giving up Gideon’s location, and then these pilots with one saying “I’m not with them” before the other kills him. So what did he mean by “with them”? Are we seeing the beginning of the more cult-like First Order? Or is he talking about a plan that Gideon or Thrawn is putting in place?

Looking forward to next season tho, glad I came in here or I would have missed the end credit scene, had to go back and watch.

Luke's CGI was pretty bad, very much a Battlefront 2 cutscene feel. I also thought Rogue One was pretty bad tho too for Tarkin and Leia, almost preferred to not see his face. The weird thing is Marvel seems a lot better at de-aging effects yet they are both Disney owned, Lucasfilms needs to hollar at them I feel. The R2 and Grogu interaction was great tho.

If we are done with this story seems some unanswered questions with Moff Gideon's plan and what he was actually using Grogu's blood for, hopefully will get back to that at some point.

Boba I hope we do go back to his escape from the sarlaac pit, why he has waited so long to get his suit back and take Jabba's throne if that was his plan all along.

175. "So Book of Boba next December, followed by Mando season 3"
In response to Reply # 173

And Kathleen Kennedy was choosing her words very carefully when she said the “next chapter” comes in December 2021...

https://ew.com/tv/the-book-of-boba-fett-mandalorian-season-3/?utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly_entertainmentweekly&utm_content=manual&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_term=5fe0b31d7c3e7f0001e3e8e0&fbclid=IwAR1lQI8JE64XzpfJpXba8E1TfaCeYunG6ru-d2XsJW9ZxSyAED9-Rc0XFLo

"We didn't want to spoil the surprise during the big Kathleen Kennedy announcement of all the shows , so they let me keep this one a secret, " Favreau says. "So this is actually separate from The Mandalorian season 3. But what we didn't say in that announcement is the next show coming up — what Kathy called 'the next chapter' — is going to be The Book of Boba Fett, and then we go into production right after that on The Mandalorian, back with the main character that we all know and love... pretty soon following that. There's a lot of Star Wars content coming out, I think they announced 10 projects, I think this will be 11."

On the one hand, they've potentially solved the problem this show was building up to for ME - I'm exhausted with constantly returning to Skywalkers and Palpatines, so if Mando can let Luke walk the Palpatine stuff off the set with him, maybe this show can get back to what I like most about it - or at least do Star Wars as Lord of the Rings with a variation on Return of the King that still manages to ignore All That Over There.

And for a backhalf of a season that was mostly a marketing ploy, I gotta give F&F big props for making that marketing entertaining. Did I ever care if there was a Boba show? Not at all, but he did get the best fight scene of the show and a Hutt house promises a return to this show's early meanness. Am I interested in a Ahsoka, Cara, etc. show?

The interesting thing about this Star Wars compared to the original is that everything is canon, but everything is also not sequestered in the paperback section of the comic book store. Like, there's also a post-Return of the Sith story floating around on video game consoles with a couple Jedi played by notable television actors wandering space looking for adventures. Do Star Wars fans need to know about that, just in case? If I'm not interested in the Diego Luna story, am I gonna be confused when I watch the Rangers show?

I wonder how this clear pivot from films to TV will pan out - it seemed like Disney learned a lesson that asking three movies to be nine movies was a LOT to ask when they announced they'd step back from Star Wars...only now, they're vomiting out even more Star Wars than they had the previous decade. Is that a good thing? It seems like super fans are stoked, but for a guy like me that generally likes the sights and sounds of Star Wars but also goes "oh, LUKE?" and shrugs, I wonder if Disney is able to keep a firm grasp on that audience forever until every hour of every piece of popcorn entertainment is Star Wars?

I'm impressed Disney was able to have their cake and eat it too with this season. I'm unconvinced that ten television shows is the solution to attempting to cram way too much into three movies.

without flaw and nothing to nitpick, the tension building all the way up to Luke's arrival was easily the best 20 minutes of anything Disney-Star Wars yet. I've watched it three times now.

Lucasfilm Calls Gina Carano Social Media Posts “Abhorrent”; Actress No Longer Employed By ‘Mandalorian’ Studio

By Anthony D'Alessandro

Anthony D'Alessandro
Editorial Director/Box Office Editor

In the wake of Gina Carano’s controversial social media posts, Lucasfilm has released a statement Wednesday night, with a spokesperson saying “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano played bounty hunter Cara Dune on the first two seasons Lucasfilm and Disney+’s The Mandalorian, and it looked like we’d be seeing more of her. It appears not.

The actress shared a TikTok post comparing the current divided political climate in the U.S. to Nazi Germany.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she wrote.

'The Mandalorian' Actress Gina Carano & UTA Part Ways In Wake Of Social Media Controversy
Another photo on Carano’s Instagram story featured a person with several masks covering their face and head with the caption: “Meanwhile in California.”

Both posts were scrubbed from the actress’ Instagram this afternoon, but others picked it up and reposted (see below). Other posts, including a quote saying “Expecting everyone you encounter to agree with every belief or view you hold is fucking wild,” and one saying “Jeff Epstein didn’t kill himself,” remained.

The hashtag #FireGinaCarano begin trending, with those on social media tagging Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, Disney, Disney+, Star Wars and Lucasfilm.

Carano and her supporters attempted to get the hashtag #weloveginacarano to trend. Carano retweeted the post below on her account.

as a jewish person, this is fucking vile and unnecessary. gina carano needs to be held accountable. the oppression my people have faced because of our religion and ethnicity is NOT the same as political disagreements. pic.twitter.com/ABuM8kO5hM

— sarah ✡︎ (@leiaswinterfell) February 10, 2021

Carano previously stirred up the dust on social media with comments about mask-wearing and voter fraud. In November, she made fun of those using preferred pronouns on social media by listing “beep/bop/boop” in her Twitter bio. The action came off as transphobic. She later walked that back, saying Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal “helped me understand why people were putting them in their bios. I didn’t know before but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all you who choose to. I stand against bullying, especially the most vulnerable & freedom to choose.”

Carano rose to fame as an MMA fighter competing in Strikeforce and EliteXC. She retired from MMA competition and segued to acting, one of her early launches being the 2011 Steven Soderbergh movie Haywire. She went on to star in Fast & Furious 6 and Deadpool, playing Angel Dust in the latter Marvel/20th Century Fox hit.

She completely messed up the bag. They were gearing a show up for her and everything, but she had to keep being a MAGAtard and continue spouting her shit.

I wonder how they'll pivot that Rangers of the Republic show now, if they even have a show.

Carano was easily the weakest link of Mando anyway and her character was primarily a plot device. If you're a layperson that just wants to hear the laser sounds, it's not hard to imagine more than one hard-nosed woman with a face tat disillusioned by war is out there ready to play space cop.

She's not a very strong actor. I can't see her carrying an entire show.

Also, it's pretty shocking to see yet another person throw away that Disney check over some dumb social media posts.

Yeah - she was absolutely not strong enough to be a lead on a show. I think I posted up above during the season that the episode when she showed up she stuck out like a sore thumb - just was just walking around smiling in a weird way that almost broke the fourth wall. "I'm an actor! I'm on a TV show! I'm happy!"...outside of the physicality and authenticity she brought to her fight scenes there was little that she brought to the role.

They were pretty vague about the details on the Rangers of the New Republic show (maybe even because they thought her getting fired was a possibility. Reportedly Favreau has to intercede to keep her from getting fired before season 2.) I doubt she was ever going to be the "lead", but likely a regular part of an ensemble cast to have the connection with the Mandalorian. But at this point they could make Paul Sun-Hyung Lee's X-Wing pilot the character giving that connection. Or even Tim Olyphant since he played a marshal.

Like, one of the worst actors I've seen in a minute.

Not only can she not lead a show, she should have never been allowed anywhere near any show ever.

Its not surprising she is also an awful person, but she should have never been hired in the first place.

She and her character were trash and a distraction.

Carano, who played the bounty hunter Cara Dune in both seasons of the Star Wars spin-off, wrote in a post on Instagram that is no longer available:

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours … even by children … Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews. I mean it's worth highlighting that post twice. I wouldn't want to work with someone with those views either. or give them hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Lost in the shuffle of all this is the fact that she's a horrible wooden actor anyway and was always the weakest part of the show. She's acting like she's being denied all this Oscar worthy roles that were gonna come her way. Haha

I think it's easier to just say after everything that happened she took a position near the core worlds instead of the outer rim. Re-casting would seem like an odd choice.
