Hope Taika's cool and sticks around until the last day of the festival, it was the only screening I could get a ticket for. I've avoided anything outside of the obvious details, but look forward to anything he does.

I’d have liked to see a little more meat on some parts of the story, but I enjoyed it and the audience was laughing out loud. I will definitely watch again, I missed some of the dialogue that was too quick for me.

- I loved the idea of watching this through the child's eyes. Instead of super intellectual storytelling, break it down to personal interactions. I loved that.

- Loved the cast, Sam Rockwell looked like he had the BEST time. Scarlett was trying to make people remember a time before Black Widow. Rebel good, Alfee Good, Roman Griffin Davis was wonderful as Jojo and I really enjoyed what he brought.

- Taika Waititi has basically earned my money at this point. If he's doing it, i'll give it my money.

- Some of the action scenes shot here are fantastic and if shown out of sequence could absolutely be mistaken for another film.

- I rep this one, go see it if you have a chance.

If not, it might be because it doesn't demonize (some of) the Nazi characters and that might be seen as going too light. The only criticism I've read (which I disagree with) said that the movie didn't treat the subject matter with enough gravity/seriousness.

I loved this though. I knew I'd like it as soon as the kid launches the explosive and it bounces back.

Scar Jo deserves best supporting actress, if for no other reason than that *one* scene.

The Jewish girl and Sam Rockwell also gave award worthy performances.

On a comedic level Reek stole every scene he was in.

I just loved everything about this. I knew every great director can make a bad movie, but so far Taika Watiti is on a career streak.

Yeah I definitely don't agree with any criticism of how this movie handled its subject matter, which I think is pretty perfect, and thought a lot about after getting to see it back in September.

I think it's actually extremely important that it didn't include something like an external good guy, and quite intentionally didn't glorify the American army presence in victory. As said elsewhere, the war scenes do seem pretty epic and fitting in other films you might see, which I think is pretty effective at showing how easy it can be to make any side seem glorious in war when you treat it that way, but probably feels weird to some people watching it when you realize you're sort of viewing the Nazi side of this losing battle and kind of feel like you might be rooting for the bad guys unexpectedly.

It's pretty clear in a lot of press and interviews Taika did leading up to this that the film is meant to have a modern context as well, as in why does he feel like he still has to make a movie about why it's bad to be a Nazi in 2019?! But that's also why I think not presenting too much evil or atrocity is important because it could breed complacency in an audience who might just not see anything happening now as THAT evil and as such not worth doing anything about.

The Nazi's are terrible and all the things they did were world changing terrible. In the eyes of Nazi Youth program, you believe what you've been told. Then you start to see some slowly peeling layers. That shit was masterful. The imaginary bestfriend shit was amazing to me.

Scarlet was really really good. I downplay it because I don't want folks to get hung up on her. She's great, but there are some really meaty performances here. There are stakes, not in the ways we always expect to see them, but there are stakes here. I love the way it was shot and presented.

I would love to see nods for multiple people here. I wonder if you're right though, do people feel like the Nazi's got off easy?

it was really well shot. some of the action scenes looked amazing. Man it had me at the opening. I was dying laughing. Splicing the Beatles song with footage of Hitler making you think of the British Invasion, genius. But it as really good. Well acted. Sam Rockwell did the damn thing. The kid playing Jojo was great and I usually hate kids. Every interaction between Jojo and Yorkie were great. Solid movie. Shit I didn't even find Rebel Wilson annoying. Maybe because she didn't do her usual fat chick falling down and making obscene comments schtick. Anything Taika puts out I am there for.

Nazi Moonrise Kingdom with cutesy Hitler. Three of the four main Nazis were “aww, he’s a good guy just following orders, let’s redeem him.” Almost inhumanly smug throughout. The ending made me physically cringe.

I’ve loved everything Taika’s done to date, he’s a massive talent, but only massive talents are capable of the gargantuan misses— and I feel this is one of those. I know plenty of smart people disagree with me, but this movie gave me an allergic reaction.
