Netflix is now streaming the third highest grossing film of 2019 (700 Million worldwide!), a Chinese blockbuster based on the Hugo award winning novel "The Three Body Problem" by Lui Cixin.

also written by Liu Cixin.
I'm really looking forward to watching this one.

Apparently a Chinese studio tried to make a movie of The Three Body Problem but it was a disaster. (Either that or the Chinese government wasn't happy with how the Cultural Revolution is treated in the story.)
Last news was that Amazon bought the rights to it and was planning to spend a BBBBillion dollars turning it into a series. But that was the rumor over a year ago and nothing has happened since. I'm honestly a little skeptical that 3BP could be adapted well as a movie or a show, but I'll be excited if it happens.

I'm only about a third of the way through the second book at the moment, but I think I largely agree.
I LOVE the fact that LIU made an effort to make the Trisolarans distinctly non-humanoid. But at the same time, the thought of seeing CGI blobs on the screen, communicating through some kind of holographic projections of their thoughts, that could get embarrassingly corny, really fast.
Also, I definitely needed all the footnotes to explain the cultural and historical references, many of which are crucial to the story. It would take some really good writers to balance all that without the explanations seeming ham fisted and contrived.

it's got thrills but gotdamn was the comedy bad. Made me regret the lame zingers from the MCU Also the editing was kinda suspect. I did enjoy the story though, not as mind-blowing as the 3 Body books but very solid and tightly done
Still, I go see Chinese movies once in a while at my local AMC and the propaganda aspect to them is getting more and more blatant. It's basically what the Republicans always accuse Hollywood of doing in terms of having an agenda, except real
