"Chernobyl (HBO miniseries, 2019)"

Starring Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård and Emily Watson, Chernobyl dramatizes the story of the 1986 nuclear accident — one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history — and the sacrifices made to save Europe from unimaginable disaster. Chernobyl premieres this May.

watching this show has been a trip. absolutely harrowing. the choice to cast all brits is interesting but it works when you just accept it. they obviously wanted the viewer to focus on the visuals and sounds rather than reading subtitles. Ep 3 was gut wrenching.

Loving both, so far. They said they went with British/Western European actors instead of having people using Russian accents because it can get cartoony. Other than that, this shit is crazy.

when the soldier said 'you cant talk to us like that!'
and he stares at him cold blooded "SHUT THE FUCK UP"

he had another confrontation a bit later too that made me laugh

this show needs that brief comedic relief bc the people dying of radiation is brutal to see.

Speaking of KGB, who made the call to have the physicist rounded up?
Boris said he'd take care of it but I have a feeling it could be him

So far this is looking like a cult classic
I don't know, "psychological radiation thriller" genre or something?
I say that to say HBO has got another one (c)

with honesty. It's kept me riveted throughout and the roof scene this last ep had me nervous for all those workers. So many people gave their lives to stem the tide as much as possible. To think it wasn't voluntary makes it even more bittersweet.

I can't say enough about how well made this show ended up being. Acting and casting was spot on, and each episode had great moments and tension. I'm going to miss watching this and listening to the follow-up podcast each week.

Craig Mazin did an incredible job of being patient and doing this the right way. You could tell this was a labor of love, told so well. The decision making process in terms of what they kept and what they cut is really really well done. Instead of telling a story of 100 scientists forming an opinion being drilled down to create 1 character who embodies the entire perspective.

The choice to use English instead of bad Russian accents was an excellent one. It allowed us to focus on storytelling and details.

The entire situation is really interesting and the dynamics of communism woven into the entire thing has been really great. How the dynamics of this system helped to create, and uniquely fix this problem as well.

Dope show, the first time they show you that core firing was so effing scary.

I wish it was more than a miniseries, but obviously there are limits to how long of a story this should be. Everything is spot-on, and it's one of the more quietly terrifying things I've ever seen.

I keep telling people they should watch it and they're all like "yeesh. why would I want to watch a show about Chernobyl?"

this was executed to a T imo. start to finish.
SO well done...HOW you tell a story can make ALL of the difference, and they told this one with haunting subtle but powerful perfection. (take note other shows: HOW a story/plot unfolds is JUST as important ...if not MORE important...as the story/plot itself)
In the wrong hands, this one could have swung too much one way or swayed too much the other....but here they struck JUST the right balance and walked that taught line all the way through. Not to mention that the acting/casting was stellar too.
