Watched it with the wife on Friday night. About 20 minutes in was the first tell at the screen WTF moment. I feel like right after that they said that they were members of the Church of LDS, and I was like, “Oh, of course.” All of that shit was classic manipulation that could very easily happen to LDS members in the ‘70s. Right down to the alien stuff. Or at least the principle behind it. A big part of the religion are built around God talking **directly*** to people. B took a lot of the tactics and adapted them so that he could get exactly what he wanted.
