"Summer of 84 (Whissell, Simard, Whissell; 2018)"

- Anyone see this? I was Skeptical as all hell because the coming of age in the 80's stories are getting done so frequently that I'm immediately jaded.

- Rich Sommer good

- I think there are pretty standard beats here, until the final 3rd where this really works.

- There are pieces here that are just ok, and others that work well.

Short run time, I'd say check it out.

I watched it last night. Yeah the movie is pretty typical until the last 20 minutes. Then it gets menacing.

*SPOILER*

I appreciate movies that switch it up like this. 2/3 of the movie is stuff we've all seen many, many times before. Then it takes that sharp left turn when you see that those kids were not going to Scooby Doo their way out of it. By the end they were in way over their heads, and there were consequences. We don't often get endings like that.

That final 20-25 minutes made me look at this film in a completely new light.

I loved the consequences, I loved the way it played out.

It made me not care about the group dynamic as much.
