"Blindspotting (Estrada, 2018)"

Saw it over the weekend. Great film.
The trailer doesn't even do it justice but here it is anyway

this one is alive -- made with thought and purpose and meaning. I've never been to Oakland, but the film has a true sense of place, without just relying on a soundtrack and b-roll. and the breakdown of white privilege and minority fear is as nuanced and empathetic as any presented on film.

And as a lifelong Oakland/Bay Area resident, I definitely felt every second of it.

The flashback to the "incident" is one my favorite scenes in who knows how long.

Of the three Bay Area films that came in last few years, this one is pretty clearly my favorite.

Agreed on all points

I just got around to checking this out on Prime, and this was definitely a more complete film from beginning to end than LBMISF and STBY.. both of which had a lot of potential but also had major flaws.

Blindspotting was dope. Loved every minute of it.

The beauty shop scene with Gina. It didn't fit the movie at all. Specifically, Gina's over-the-top comedic delivery felt very out of place with any of the humor in the rest of the movie

From the pimp my ride Uber guy to some of the interactions with his quasi ex. Or even the scenes with his white homeboy and his gf.

It's the type of lightheartedness. Straight out of Friday or Tyler Perry.. Just over the top. And since it was so over the top it stuck out like a sore thumb.

But this is a very minor gripe for me in an otherwise very good movie. One of the few movies I've seen in the last few years where I didn't leave underwhelmed or even worse, "A 40 degree day".

not really gentrification related but a party in high school where this mexican dude tested the wrong whiteboy assuming he was some poser and wound up getting stomped out something fierce. A lot of us knew this guy's rep, this kid didn't.

Man, I love this movie though. Makes me wish i'd still be travelling to Oakland for Raider games.
