An absurdist war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an exploration of a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan.
The Netflix original film is inspired by the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan by the late journalist Michael Hastings.
2. "how much better is AK the movie than the tv show?" In response to Reply # 1
I gave up on the tv show after 3 episodes. which is unusual for me since I usually will watch through the end of season. Only other show I can remember bailing on is The Magicians

3. "I really liked the movie; tapped out after pilot of show." In response to Reply # 2
Honestly, I don't remember much of the movie but i really liked it when I saw it. The show had a lot of issues for me but I didn't like the pilot and didn't feel the need to keep watching. (I gave The Magicians a second chance but the main dude irked me and it was laughable how many "You did something that should get you banished but we'll give you ONE MORE TRY!" he got. I've heard the 2nd season is better though.)
