http://www.thewrap.com/stranger-things-season-2-details-revealed-by-cast-and-creators/

A new romance for Joyce and a “post-traumatic” Will Byers are just a couple of the developments in store
Tim Kenneally | February 9, 2017 @ 11:14 AM

The mystery of “Stranger Things” star Winona Ryder’s bizarre facial expressions at this year’s SAG Awards may still remain unsolved (well, mostly, anyway), but plot details for the second season of the Netflix series are being revealed by the show’s creators and cast members.

With production of the second season now underway, Ryder, David Harbour and series creators the Duffer Brothers offered insight on what to expect upon the show’s return to EW.com.

So what’s in store? First off, the season will pick up almost a year after the events of the first run, perhaps appropriately on Halloween.

While Will Byers has emerged from the mysterious realm of the Upside-Down, it seems that, while you can take the boy out of the Upside-Down, it might not be so easy to take the Upside-Down out of the boy.

“He seems to be seeing images from the Upside Down — the question is whether they’re real or not,” series co-creator Matt Duffer said. “So it seems like he’s having some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder.”

Will’s mother Joyce (played by Ryder), meanwhile, has taken up with a former high-school classmate named Bob (played by “The Goonies” alum Sean Astin), and attempting to bring some sense of normalcy to her distraught family, according to Ryder.

“She’s trying to mask a lot,” Ryder offered. “I think she’s made this choice with Bob because she wants a good father figure in her sons’ lives.”

Lawman Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is undergoing his own struggles, as he attempts to keep the disappearance of Barb and other Season 1 events under wraps for the good of Joyce and others.

“It kind of falls on Hopper to be the voice of authority to say, ‘This did happen and this didn’t happen,'” Harbour revealed. “He’s struggling with the compromise that takes him to, having to lie and cover things up.”

Nancy and Mike Wheeler, meanwhile, “are both the most screwed-up,” according to co-creator Ross Duffer, because of the demises — or so it seems, anyway — of Nancy’s friend Barb and Mike’s mysterious visitor, Eleven.

“They’re both grappling with that, and we see the effects,” Duffer added.

The first season had a better flow to it, while this season had a better epilogue. Next season needs to be 8 episodes again. Hell, I'd think 6 would make for a meaner and leaner story.

The #JusticeForBarb storyline was super well done and rolled back into the main storyline well.

This season left some things on the table while feeling as if it was a complete whole. If this was it, I'd be satisfied.

Sean Astin's Bob and Paul Reiser's character were welcome additions. Maxine got old to be honest. All she did was eyeroll, snark, eyeroll, snark, snark.

Her older brother played by the new red Power Ranger in that corny movie that came out in March added nothing either. Did we need another bully?

Lucas putting Mike in his place about being Winston (from Ghostbusters) was great and had me laughing.

Loved Eleven's journey this season. A lot of emotional heft between her and Hopper. Seriously, Millie Bobbie Brown and David Harbour brought it this season.

*Slight Spoilers*
Actually really glad there was no out and out villain this season like Matthew Modine last year. By having everyone focused on different things that led to the same goal was smart.

*End Slight Spoilers*

had the flu and so was able to binge watch em all this weekend.

often found myself grinnin my ass off with enjoyment. we dug season 2 as much as, maybe even more than, season 1.

i love this crew. some strong acting and fun dialogue. and accurate 80s details.

Just good damn fun man...made me happy.

**on a side note, while initially when i heard that Ron Pearlman would no longer be playing Hellboy that someone else would be playing the role in the future, i was like '''nah...if Pearlman can't do it, they oughtta just shut it down".....but then my wife just tells me that the actor playing Hopper is slotted to take over the reins of Hellboy for Ron...so now i'm all in & on board. I can totally see that....***

Even better thank the first season IMHO. Wonder if we'll get a 008 spin-off, or if she will be featured more in season 3. (Assuming there will be a 3rd season).

I like the overall message/backstory/character development from it, but the storyline itself was trash and not only did it feel like a completely different show, as you said, it threw me off entirely.

Would have preferred that instead of her meeting Eight and her crew, it was just Eight who had been using her powers in the same controversial way. And rather than it be a standalone episode, have it blended in over a 2-episode scope.

Also LOL at Eight saying when she escaped she "ran away as far as she could" and ending up one state over.

They get in their character work while moving the story along in each scene. They have great cliffhangers at the end of each episode too.

I stopped it about fifteen minutes or so in. It feels so staged and edited, but it's supposed to come off as this laid back hang out.

It makes you appreciate Chris Hardwick more.

I'm not even into Talking Dead anymore, but it's still a lot better than this.

Good stuff.

It only suffers a bit from the usual second season-it is in that the first season feels complete and thought out, but with this one I could almost see the smoky writers room with everyone trying to figure out where to take the story this time.

And it seems like they only shoe-horned in stuff about Barb for all the fans.

But it was enjoyable. Great characters. Nice developments. I was satisfied with it.

i really dug ep 7

hope 008 returns

the love stories are weird as fuck, tho they make sense in terms of kiddie crushes, but still er'body don't need to be in love...

the new blood was good AF

Steve's arc is unique and original

Winona still turrbl and perfect

glad they removed Wil from the center of the narrative. He's annoying as fuk to me

they still afraid to kill off central characters, which is whatevs

but yeah, really good: pacing, acting, set design, details, soundtrack.

seems like this ending was a good permanent ending for the story

unless they explore a big time jump sometime else, which maybe could be good

but to have the same squad go through a round 3 with the wacky upside down sounds tired

-High school in the late 80’s.
-The crew is a little older and grown apart.
-People never stopped coming to and from the lab.
-Or, the Flayer that possessed Will came back to take over someone to reopen the lab and the tear in the gate.

they need to explore 008 and do away with some characters or do a time jump into a different area where these characters can come help.

not that a seaons 3 with the same characters CAN'T BE dope, it just might get a bit tedious

but the way it ended obviously the smoke alien is still very a live and looking for access to their world

take it to where there a fanatic group that knows about the shadow monster, is able to "infect" new people and get other kids with powers who are also part of the cult.

Maybe have t he leader of the cult be 003 or something who is older than eleven and knows how to wreck shit.

If a fat guy falls in the woods and there is no one around to see it, do the trees laugh?

Her episode was hands down the worst part of this season. It was ifs only flaw even tho it was needed to explain (and possibly other children of the lab) the ending of this season. Moving away from these main characters would be stupid as they are the reason we watch it. Am i saying making s believable storyline surrounding them is easy? No not at all its going to be hard but the Duffer Brothers are aware of it and have said they know they cant just have a new monster im Hawkins and rehash past stories.

>seems like this ending was a good permanent ending for the story>

i agree, this would be a strong exit if they choose to go out that way....

>unless they explore a big time jump sometime else, which maybe could be good>

true, that could be interesting...as long as its a time jump with this same group of characters (the kids) at a different stage. See, THATs the thing...for me, i'm invested in these Characters and their friendships more than anything else really...thats the fun (and true charm) of the show for me....these kids and them working through their friendships, and their banter as they do it....i do like the rest of it, (the upside down & monsters have been executed and integrated well so far, very satisfying)...but for me the real magic is the circa 80s 'little rascals' themselves, i just like visiting that era again with this particular group of whippersnappers. THESE particular actors themselves do such a good job, and thats the one reason why i'd be AGAINST a BIG time jump, because that would mean different actors. but if they jumped a year or two to High School or whatever, and kept the same kids, that would be groovy...

>but to have the same squad go through a round 3 with the wacky
>upside down sounds tired>

yeah, i hear ya on that...i'm curious what the D bros have in mind. i heard that they do have a very specific story arch 'in mind' that would give at least a season 3 and prob season 4...but they ARENT planning for an ongoing thing, they really just want to tell this one complete story arch if they are able to. but they aren't even 'presuming' that they'd get a season 3 or 4. (though i think they will:)

There's a lot going on that they can focus on so I don't think that was the strongest cliffhanger to end the season. If they basically conquered this twice I'm not sure why they'd still really be scared of it.

yep i agree...i'd be fine if they don't revisit the upside down. in fact i kinda like the idea of knowing that its still just 'out there', even as the characters & plot move on to other things...

hah! to be clear, all i'm saying is that i'm ok with them moving on to a DIFFERENT Strange Thing if they decide to (other than the upside down specifically)...lol, im not saying they don't need have the 'strange' , i'm just saying that the strange doesn't HAVE to be the Upside Down SPECIFICALLY...

I would be good with them moving on but then it just creates a bigger question of why does other stranger things that cant be explain show up in unison with the upside down lol

I think they are better off coming up with something that is connected to the upside down instead of creating something entirely new

Everything about this show is great. The anti technology component is pretty central to the connections. The eighties make the most sense and I love the subtle and overt tribute to our favorite 80's movies and familiar characters from different eighty movies.

I also like that the underlying theme of small town friendship, loyalty and simplicity.
