so heres the deal. they're doing a week-long Noh theater run at Lincoln Center. The writeups were full of praise, and the pictures looked AMAZING, like some Samurai Showdown shit. So i got some tix for me and my girl and a guest who will be in town that week.
Then I watched a youtube video.....fam. FAM. that shit is soooo lame. Boring. Nubs. Its just a bunch of dudes moaning, occasionally hitting a bongo. And the "actors" barely even move. I thought there would at least be some interesting interpretive dance or something.
at any rate - having some serious buyers remorse right now. anyone who has anything good to say about Noh should do it here PLEASE and tell me why i should still go to this, because i WANT to appreciate this (i mean, shit, I already got the tix), i just dont know how to even approach it in my mind.

I studied noh theater in college, and it definitely *can* be boring... but I generally appreciate the strange cultural divide, the mask and gesture work, and the different approach to storytelling.
If not anything else, it'll be a very different experience. And I enjoy different experiences.
Getting stoned may not be the worst idea. Don't take LSD, you may freak.
Ya I'm hoping it will at least be kinda interesting. There's 2 plays with the sort of "intermission play" in the middle that's supposed to be more comical (I forget the name of that part). So I figure if nothing else we can just split after that if we're not feeling it.
