"JUNUN (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2015)"

From Wiki:

Junun is a 2015 documentary film by the American director Paul Thomas Anderson. It documents the making of an album of the same name in Mehrangarh Fort in Rajasthan, India, by musicians including Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur, English composer and Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Greenwood previously composed soundtracks for several Anderson films. Anderson used drones to capture aerial footage of the fort. Junun premièred at the 2015 New York Film Festival and was released on the MUBI film streaming service on October 9, 2015. It received positive reviews.

I watched this last night. Basically PTA set up some digital cameras and recorded some incredibly talented people making music. Very unpolished and informal but ends up being really cool. Kind of hypnotic at times. There's no traditional "documentary" stuff. No talking heads or formal interviews. I don't think Jonny Greenwood says more than a few words in the whole thing.

Camera work is choppy but who cares. This is some fly-on-the-wall cinema verite shit. Of course, there are some gorgeous shots mixed in here and there as well.

The music is fucking awesome btw. Be sure to watch this with good speakers or at least good headphones.
