"AMC/Channel 4's Humans (alternate present day sci-fi series)"

First episode is out there. Doesn't air until 6/28 in the US on AMC.

I liked the first episode quite a bit. It was well made, and had a good medium between thought-provoking and creepy. The themes of the show aren't anything new, but I'm curious how they will play out. I think people who like Black Mirror should give it a shot. Didn't realize until the end of the episode that it is a remake of a Swedish show, Real Humans.

Here's a trailer:

i'm all in too. really dug the first episode, very well balanced and well acted. subtle and realistically creepy. sure some of the themes aren't new, but when executed properly, with characters that are real and believable, you can get drawn in and invested....so far they've got me. looking forward to seeing the rest.

not that this show Humans is the same, because it isn't... but having this new Humans show on the air now eases some of the frustration i felt at the cancelation of Almost Human a while back.

Had no idea this came on last night. Thankfully I can catch this on demand since this airs the same time as True Detective. The storytelling is nice in that the back story for each of the Synths is revealed bit by bit and isn't too cryptic.

a British show is airing this closely here in the States? I wonder how much money AMC had to pony up to get the rights to this so soon to the Brits currently watching it.

All the way in. We're spoiled with science fiction shows this summer.
Another show with the unlikable mom/ wife archetype.
Great concept. The ex-prostitute android scene going to regular guy's crib was tense as hell.If he didn't have pics of his daughter around the crib he'd be dead. Loved that.

She's obviously SUPER busy at work, and yet obviously SUPER threatened by this droid - and SHOULDN'T she be? I mean, the salesman ALREADY gave hubby the homie hook-up on the sexbot option.

smh

but isn't that basically like using a fleshlight? It's a mechanical aide, right?

ugh

So many questions....

It's deliberate I'm sure. Mom knows Anita took the little one outside, changed her clothes and is lying about it. Any mom would react that way, I think. It's just that the show concentrates on her insecurities and watching her go from insecure to acting on that insecurity is not very charming. Anita saving thirsty boy from getting killed and letting mom put little one to sleep makes mom chill a little.I'm sure her role will change as the story goes on.It's the dad I really don't feel.

The husband, and the son, are the unlikable ones. The mom and daughter are much better. Particularly with this past week's episode (episode 4).

Frankly, all the female characters on this show are better than the males.

And that reveal at the end of episode 4... how did I not see that coming?

I thought they'd change that as the show was progressing. The dad always seemed sleezeball-ish to me. Mom does have skeletons literally in her closet though. The boy's just being a dirty little teenager who surprised me at the party when he passed on shorty's offer. Gemma Chan is going on that list.

Enjoying this so far... style and pacing reminds me a lot of Utopia, which certainly isn't a bad thing.

Sticking with it ... can already see some serious impending thirst (and not just Gemma Chan related) when the 6 episodes run out!

that the five would be a threat if they had the ability to make the other synthetic humans sentient.

Although the Synthetic humans are sympathetic, the right thing for humanity is to NOT allow that to happen.

Feels like the show just kept treading water. Very good premise, but seemed like they didn't know how to make it interesting for an entire season.

Its a very different show than I imagined it being from the promos

The family got unrealistic when they changed their mind and decides to help

With a finite run, there would have been more things you could have done
And now its a run of the mill run from the government type show

I totally expected the malfunctioning blonde boy to gain sentience

Only for my hopes to be dashed within a few minutes. WTF happened to AMC? They started off so strong with two of the most critically acclaimed shows for this era and then fell off to the point where I don't even check for their new stuff anymore.
