"SPILLED LATTE VOTING IS CLOSED."
Sun Feb-22-15 03:52 PM by Frank Longo

Edit: I'll leave it open for any stragglers who want to toss it some ballots but left it down to the wire.

Here's the deal. You think the Academy is bound to get it wrong. They always do. Well, now it's our turn.

I want you to post up your 5 favorites in ten major categories:

Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actor
Best Supporting Actress
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Original Screenplay
Best Cinematography
Best Original Score

**Vote for as many or as few of the categories as you'd like.**

- I would also like you to rank these from BEST TO WORST-- 5 points for your favorite, 1 point for your 5th favorite.

- If you DON'T have 5 you enjoyed in a category, rank the ones you did find praiseworthy (example: Best Supporting Actress isn't the deepest field, so if you have only three performances you dug, give out 5, 4, and 3 points to those three). Note: If you vote for fewer than three people for a particular category, your votes for that category will NOT be cast.

Example ballot:

BEST PICTURE
5 points- Maleficent
4 points- Sin City 2
3 points- A Haunted House 2
2 points- Left Behind
1 point- Foxcatcher

BEST ACTOR
5 points- Marlon Wayans in A Haunted House 2
4 points- Johnny Depp in Transcendence
3 points- Zach Braff in Wish You Were Here
2 points- Mark Wahlberg in Transformers: Age of Extinction
1 point- Sylvester Stallone in Expendables 3

Etc.

- I realize many of us live in cities that get limited release films much later, but all of the major players have gone theatrical or VOD by now, so you have up until after the Oscars (FEBRUARY 23RD) to post your official selections.

I will then add up the votes and post the "nominees" (the top five finishers in voting) shortly after. The official Spilled Latte Awards will be posted after the actual Oscars, so that we can brag when they are posted about how much better our list of winners is.

- The categories have also been split up TO MAKE VOTING EASIER. You no longer have to compile one massive ballot a la homework. Vote for as many or as few categories in a day as you wish. Only have time to figure out two categories? Vote for those and figure out the rest next week! And so on and so forth.

- By the way, PLEASE ONLY VOTE ONCE IN EACH CATEGORY! Multiple amendments make it very very difficult for the person keeping track-- me. So wait if you want to, or make your votes now and inbox me your changes so that I can edit them into your post.

- I'm gonna be deleting extraneous posts that have nothing to do with rule clarification or declaration of ballot formation. So if the post count suddenly drops, you'll know why, lol. Just clearing out the clutter to make my job easier.

- Finally, if you need help looking for additional, lesser-watched films to fill out your ballots with some less-publicized but equally worthy fare, check out the For Your Consideration post, which will remain locked and anchored.

Let's see your votes, people. Choose em, rank em, throw em up.

actually, it wasn't a shitty year for Best Actress. Most of the films that had really good to awards worthy best actress performances were smaller indies not distributed by a major studio, foreign, etc.
and folk only saw the buzzed about, oscar bait flicks which, sadly, were dull and bland (though Pike getting in for Gone Girl is quite awesome and just her general I don't give a fuckness quirky British-ness is refreshing imho)

3. Andy Serkis, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes*
2. Ethan Hawke, Boyhood
1. Tyler Perry, Gone Girl

*I know Caesar was the main character, but with the ambiguity between motion capture and post-production, I see Serkis' contributions as a supporting role.
