"Paddington (King, 2015)" Wed Nov-04-15 04:27 PM by Frank Longo
Just got back from watching it with the family, my 5 year old loved it. I really enjoyed it and thought it was really well done. Anyone else take the kids and check it out?

I read most of the Paddington Bear series when I was a kid, and the trailer did not give me any warm fuzzies. I'd take my 5 year old daughter to see it if I could sit through it

I thought it captured the spirit of Paddington very well. Far as the movie itself, Paddington came across wonderfully and I think it was a reverent effort. He’s pretty much my favorite live-action CGI character ever. They do a great job playing up the destruction that follows his innocent misadventures and the Brown family hold up their end well enough, particularly Mary.
It’s very much a Paddington show though, and that’s a good thing. They nailed his Hard Stare, which was something I worried they’d either fuck up or omit completely, however it was used to great comic effect. I’m also happy to say marmalade is featured well and often.
The only downside is a somewhat gruesome plan by the villain, at least for a children’s movie. I don’t recall her from the books. Personally, there’s enough drama to build with a talking bear who is the only one of his kind in a strange new land that they didn’t need a full on villain. They didn’t quite jump the proverbial shark with her, but there were some moments that definitely leaned that direction. For what it’s worth, my 3 ½ year old loved it.
Minor spoiler regarding her plan without spoiling her motivation, which you should figure out easy enough:

Just breaking balls here but I thought you would have been on this.
Anyyhow we own it and my daughter still loves Paddington. We now have a Paddington book in our bedtime story rotation.
This movie was a fantastic introduction to the character. I half hope for a sequel or two- lord knows there are plenty of misadventures to be had with Paddington- but I fear too much dilution.
