Christoph Waltz Cast In James Bond 24

http://comicbook.com/2014/11/14/christoph-waltz-cast-in-james-bond-24/

Two-time Oscar winner, Christoph Waltz has joined the cast of the untitled James Bond 24 film which is slated to begin filming next month, Daily Mail reports.

Daniel Craig, aka 007, has met with Waltz as have producers. Other cast members and crew will meet the new addition for a script read through in approximately 3 weeks.

The next film will shoot on locations in Mexico, Austria, Morocco, Italy and London.

Waltz won Academy Awards for performances in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards and Django Unchained. He’s wrapped up filming for Tulip Fever, Tarzan. His next film to be released, Tim Burton’s Big Eyes, hits theaters on Dec. 26.

In addition to Waltz and Craig, Skyfall alums Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, and Rory Kinnear will also star. The new Bond film is planned for November 6, 2015 release.

Christoph Waltz must surely be the villain in this upcoming Bond film. And he will be great in this role. Lets just hope he has some good dialogue to work with.

It has also been rumoured that Dave Bautista is going to be the henchman in the film like an updated OddJob. The Guardians of the Galaxy role must have really helped.

Léa Seydoux (Blue Is The Warmest Colour) is meant to be one of the Bond girls.

My favourite cinematographer Roger Deakins is not returning for Bond 24. Allegedly his place is going to be taken by Hoyte van Hoytema who was the cinematographer on Interstellar.

He could've used more (or better) Bond humor, but as a contrast to the goofy movies at the end of Moore's run I thought he was a breath of fresh air. Not sure he would've gotten more interesting with more movies, but I kinda enjoyed how dark his take on Bond was. Not as good as Craig's version, but good. I like seeing Bond as an actual human being.

To be fair, I always forget which one of his movies I liked and which one was just okay, so he certainly had the least memorable run.

Dalton portrayed more of the literary Bond than the cinematic one. He was pretty ruthless. The speargun moment in LTK, along with the scenes Killifer and Krest. That was more hardcore than audiences were used to with Bond. Personally, I loved the darker edge.

It has a sensational build-up, but the payoff simply isn't there. Once we really get into the Waltz stuff, we are handed the Seydoux love plot, which feels like it's been done before (and isn't terribly convincing at all)...

... and, worst of all, the Waltz character is woefully undercooked. They just figured, "We'll get Waltz, give him a backstory of roughly one line or so, and then just hope his menacing way of talking can fill in the gaps." It doesn't. Most disappointing villain of the Craig films, especially considering the caliber of actor. You get no sense of *why* every bad guy across the world reports to him. (Cool makeup at the end tho.)

Might be the worst of the Craigs. (Note: I am one of the few who really enjoys Quantum of Solace... but I'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who would consider this on par with Skyfall or Casino Royale.)

None of it feels especially new... at all. Except for the beginning, which is one of the best of the entire Bond series. It really builds you up just to let you down.

The tracking shot at the beginning and everything up to the opening credits was hot fire. The last 30 minutes of so? Not so much. Someone said the end was like a video game boss level, which is kind of how it played out. I've got one major gripe, but I'll wait for more to see the movie.

At least it always looks beautiful

Yeah, Waltz disappears for WAY too long. Not that bad, but not really memorable.

I thought it was better than Quantum, but after Skyfall this is a huge disappointment.

38. "Complete lack of ingenuity"
In response to Reply # 0

The opening scene sets the tone for the whole movie. Looks cool but is devoid of ingenuity or creativity in terms of what's happening. We have an opening one shot that was one shot because, you know, long single shots are cool. And what is Bond doing? Walking. Then blowing something up. Then walking again.

The cat and mouse game in the parade should have been great but, nope, it was literally two guys walking. And then there's the big fight scene.

It was paint-by-numbers Bond from there on out with Bond getting information with ease that is ridiculous even for Bond. Of course they told Monica Belluci's character, who they were going to kill anyway, all the information about how they would replace her husband. Bond then has an easier time finding the hideout of a notorious criminal than a damn hotel.

The Bloefeld reveal reminded me of the Kahn reveal in Star Trek: Into Darkness - delivered when there were far more pressing issues and it came off as weak fan service.

The Macguffin also seemed pointless and Bond's mission was rather low stakes. The system wasn't even in place yet Blofeld seemed to have a pretty top notch intelligence system and got a man atop the British Intelligence. The reveal of Max/Moriarty as bad was so obvious that they should have just gotten past it earlier. Have James and M suspect him, have them convince S. Africa to vote against it and then Bond goes to S. Africa to foil the plan and hopefully catch someone in the act (and he failed and S. Africa votes for it.) Give Bond a better reason to go places; make Moriarty a more active bad guy.

Putting James into contraptions that move slowly and allow him time to escape is one thing but putting James into contraptions that just don't work like the drill is just dumb.

And then in the end... he, uh, jumps into a net and there's a boat down there as well. What a lazy fucking ending.

I was really hoping that Lea's character wouldn't fall for James. Have her hop in the sack with him since the adrenaline was rushing but then she blows him off. Basically, she is the person he could have been; she made the choice not to.

There were so many interesting way that the film could have gone but instead they chose the most basic, boring path.

It was just weak altogether. I didn't care fir how Star Trek did it, because you dind't NEED to have Kahn be, well, Kahn. He could have been anybody else with a bit of story. The 'is he or isn't he' Kahn lead up was a waste

With Spectre, with this being kind of a 'reset' film, putting everybody back in their familiar places from the Connery films (more or less), you KNOW it has to be Blofeld. Otherwise it just doesn't work. So don't hide it like it's a big reveal. Go all in and OWN IT. Having the reveal in the last 3rd of the movie just cheapened it for me.

In response to Reply # 42

The trilogy seemed like it was setting up how James became who he was. He hunts down all of these bad guys and wants to avenge the love of his life.

In "Spectre", we learn that James didn't really hunt down these guys as much as Blofeld has been gunning for him. And he gets over Vesper and falls in love with a new girl, throwing away his gun and taking the girl - finally making the choice of having a life over giving his life over to his job. (I mean, she even gets him to order a Dirty Martini!)

The better ending would have been James sending her off. Some "I promised your father I'd keep you safe and you'll never be safe around me." type line so then we have the James Bond we know in love. Instead, they now have to throw in some explanation of what the heck happened to her.

Although, I think this makes it all the easier to wrap up the Craig era and do a mini-reboot with Idris.

Them reverting back to the original Bond format (Bond meets m in the office, gets new mission, flirts with Moneypenny, gets gadgets from Q ,goes off on new mission, fuck bad bond girl, fuck good bond girl , defeats villain, roll credits) it worked back in the day-yes.

But they established such an amazing fresh new tone with Craig's first three bond movies - I would say they really didn't need to go that route, but I understand why they did, but still...did they need to..lol.

There where so many great elements chosen for this film that just weren't utilized properly,I hate that it didn't come together.

Thank god for Thomas Newman's score though , it at least made me feel something while watching this...lol.

(spoilers below)

This movie is about as ho hum as you can get. Simply because they didn't give the villains any shine at all. Christoph Waltz should of just called in his lines over the phone. You got a guy of this talent on the screen for barely a fraction of the movie. Than Dave Bautista I know he is a newbie and probably has newbie chops right now but hell I though he was supposed to be a bad guy version of Bond. Smart, charming, and will kill your ass. He only bodied a guy in his own crew.
If the villians in your movie is shit, than the hero looks like shit too.

Man fuck this movie.

I flip flop on CR and QoS a lot, BUT...

After stewing on Spectre for a long, long time, that movie destroyed a lot of goodwill I had for the reboot even if I still love Skyfall.

This series desperately needs a female writer for the next one cause all that shit with Monica was wild inappropriate and unnecessary.

I still don't exactly get how they shoehorned Bardem was part of the grand scheme of things (though it would explain how he funded all that shit). Trying to say Specter was the driving force behind those proceedings is a stretch they didn't quite reach, and would have been a lot better of NOT trying to do it, I'd argue

Eh. The more I think about Specter the stupider it becomes and the more frustrating the wasted potential of the movies and actors involved. Give me the opening scene, the Monica makeout and maybe the chase scene (drifting across the cobblestones looked fantastic) and everything else could pretty much kick rocks

I mean it was about Silvia getting revenge against M.

My other question is how did M know about Spectre and the operative she sent Bond after? What was her endgame?

At first, I thought maybe she was part of SPECTRE. Why else would she hold off on sending James down there and setting this whole thing in motion?

And didn't Bond hear at the meeting that the security initiative would help SPECTRE? Nobody thought about running that down, especially after the one country that voted against it suffered a terrorist attack a few days later?

It's like the producers watched Furious 7 and figured, "I think what people enjoy about these films is the ridiculous plot logic. We should do that but darker and grittier."

...what caused that explosion when James went to kill that assassin? He looked surprised when the shit blew up and then had a building come crashing down on him.

Also, when James saw Blofeld at the meeting, why didn't he looked surprised or act surprise when he saw it was his foster brother. Even if he hated him that should elicit an emotional response of some sort.

Also, they were kinda repeating themsevles from Skyfall in trying to shut down MI6 as that was what M and Mallory where trying to fight that movie as well (that whole courtroom scene and the purpose of Mallory being there and then becoming the new M).

What also pisses me off is Skyfall ending perfectly with M asking James is he ready and he replies "With pleasure M. With pleasure" fully accepting his duties as a 00 agent and following M's orders to an extent, only to in this one have Moneypenny tell him to get a life (LOL okay) and have Lea ask him if he's not lonely being an assassin and telling him he she fell in love outta nowhere.

As plot may be outlandish on those films at least I didn't sit back and think on it hard enough to make me hate it as Spectre did. And as you said the dark and gritty tone combined with the (relative) realism of the previous three kill this one dead in its tracks. I couldn't help but to laugh when Blofeld's secret lair just randomly blows up ten minutes later after James shoots one gas pipe. I mean obliterate the entire lair. Shit is insane b.

Yeah, the exploding building didn't make much sense, and if you try and take the 'Spectre knew he was there all along' angle it holds up worse. But it looked and felt fantastic, so, there's that

I can't even begin to say how or why he would not recognize his foster brother, or why he didn't just tell Q and Moneypenny 'this bastard is my foster brother!'. Nothing about that really worked. Don't even get me started with the brain drill and the cat either...

As for the FF discussion, those films never once had a shred of believably or story and had an open disdain for the lays of physics. So you took them for what they were and kept rolling. Trying (and to a degree succeeding) to do a more grounded Bond in the previous Craig films does make the lunacy in Spectre more grating

You may be right. I need to marinate on that one for a minute, but I can't say you're wrong or crazy for thinking that.

The game where you've heard of both of the teams and both have reputations that make you think the team is better than they really are and it's ultimately a forgettable game.

For better or worse, I feel like the Craig Era Bond films tried to elevate the franchise a bit. Mission: Impossible pretty much realized it was a fun franchise and just ran with it in Rogue Nation. I haven't seen Casino Royale in a while but I could side with Rogue Nation on this one.

felt like they tossed in a couple of callbacks to casino royale, namely the train sequence sit-down. made me think of first meeting vesper lynd. definitely a sentimental/nostalgic moment for bond, given craig's expression.

only thing i had a probably with is the way bond went all call of duty breaking out of blofeld's lair and blasting everyone in sight. shit was way over the top, even for a bond film.

speaking of which... blofeld had the most punchable face i can remember in recent film history. (*fartsy voice*) credit to christoph waltz for bringing out the subtleties of pomposity.

Skyfall was a super glossy spectacle with a great theme song but this time around we get the complete opposite. Spectre is really pretty boring , a by the numbers affair. The theme song is a horrific number sung by Sam Smith. I am giving this the same grade I gave Skyfall a C+.

This series like Mission Impossible seems like the same story/movie over and over again.

The only thing I dug was Lea Seydoux, but I can watch her in anything.

In response to Reply # 0

Its like they refuse to have two good movies in a row. After Skyfall im shocked at how forgettable this was. It wasn't really bad it was just not memorable at all. Storyline was weak and Waltz was a underwhelming villian after the way Javier Bardem killed the last movie. I agree with some of the people above, might be time for a new bond. This movie cost 245+ million, Sicario cost 30 million and had the better actions scenes, storyline, acting and tension.
