Agreed with everything Frank Longo said. Some amazing picks.
As far as top actresses I'm checking for *right now*, I'd go with Adele Exarchopoulos, Marion Cotillard, Elle Fanning, Shailene Woodley, Carey Mulligan, and Tilda Swinton. Amy Ryan and Vera Farmiga would be near the very top of my list, but they aren't getting any big roles for some strange reason.
Generally speaking, here are some of my favourite female performances:
- Gena Rowlands (A Woman Under The Influence) - Adele Exarchopoulos (Blue Is The Warmest Color) - Nicole Kidman (Birth) - Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone) - Carrey Mulligan (Shame) - Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive) - Vera Farmiga (Up In The Air) - Juliette Binoche (Lovers On The Bridge) - Julie Delpy (Before Trilogy) - Anamaria Marinca (4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days) - Marion Cotillard (Rust & Bone, The Immigrant, Public Enemies) - Ronit Elkabetz (Late Marriage) - Shailene Woodley (The Spectacular Now) - Elle Fanning (Ginger & Rosa, Super 8) - Jackie Weaver (Animal Kingdom) - Maggie Cheung (In The Mood For Love) - Emanuelle Riva (Amour, Hiroshima Mon Amour) - Kate Jarvis (Fish Tank) - Franka Potente (Run Lola Run) - Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) - Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha, Greenberg)
Julianne Moore, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Emily Watson, Emily Blunt, Kate Winslet, Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchette, Amy Adams, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rosario Dawson, Laura Linney, Penelope Cruz, Saoirse Ronan, Elizabeth Olsen and Eva Green are usually great in everything they're in.
