Paramount Pictures and Skydance Prods. are re-teaming to develop a sequel to Tom Cruise�s �Jack Reacher,� based on the series of Lee Child novels.
The project is based on �Never Go Back,� published in September as Child�s 18th book in the series, in which Reacher heads to the Virginia headquarters of his old military unit and is arrested for a crime he doesn�t remember committing 16 years earlier.
The studio is seeking a writer to adapt �Never Go Back� and has not selected a director. Christopher McQuarrie directed �Jack Reacher� from his own script with Cruise, Paula Wagner, Gary Levinsohn and Dana Goldberg producing.
�Jack Reacher,� released last Dec. 21, grossed $216 million worldwide.

Jack Reacher had a 60m budget and made 80m domestically. But the foreign draw is the key here and why not do a sequel since there's franchise potential. I mean, they're making another Bourne movie with Jeremy Renner and Bourne Legacy didn't even break even with its domestic take.
I also wonder how much the revived Fast and Furious franchise plays into studios saying, "No, but we'll do it right this time and the franchise will be bigger than ever!"

shit they're doing a HANSEL AND GRETEL sequel to that horrible ass dreck Renner and Arterton starred in back in January.
it made *NO* money in the states but turned a profit overseas and now they're doing a sequel. SMH
and i still can't believe that the Renner Bourne is moving forward with a sequel either...the movie wasn't that good.

probably a lot. Look at how much money these later FF sequels have made...yea, studios saw dollar signs and that's why they're making another Reacher movie...
If The Story of Your Life was the highlight of Paramount's flat-footed CinemaCon presentation, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back was a fine supporting player. A double, in baseball terminology. After a weirdly rambling and unfocused video introduction by Tom Cruise from the set of The Mummy the footage began strong:
Cops respond to a incident at a diner. Four dudes are laying in the parking lot, all beat up and moaning. Inside the diner we see a lone figure sitting at the counter. It's Jack Reacher. The cops come in, weapons drawn and Jack Reacher says:
"Two things are going to happen in the next 90 seconds. That phone is going to ring and you'll be wearing handcuffs on your way to prison."
"That's one magnificent prophecy, Mr. Reacher," says one of the cops... and then the phone rings.
The ringing of the phone plays over various action shots - a car chase, Cruise jumping off a roof onto a guy and taking his machine gun and shooting some dudes offscreen, Cobie Smulders in a jail cell and then getting broken out, Smulders beating the shit out of a military dude with a baton.
Then it's Smulders and Cruise in a car, looking bruised and bloody.
"Now I'm a fugitive from justice," she says.
"And a traitor to your country," Reacher replies.
"Why do I think you're enjoying this?" she snaps back.
It looked... fine. Without a sense of the story the action looked like standard mid-budget stuff. I really enjoyed Jack Reacher and I hope the unexpected sequel delivers the same pleasures, which is what this footage basically promised. This could be the next great movie to watch on cable TV.
I mean TC as JR is still perfect casting. Cobie Smulders looks to be bouncing off of TC. But, I just hope this is a better adaptation of NEVER GO BACK than the last one was.
