Pretty great read. Very informative and pretty fucking funny. Eddie's voice is strong and I love how he did not sacrifice his language, when he put pen to paper. Definitely a page-turner and relevant to anyone who loves culture, food, their fam and, hiphop. Homie can write.

Another incredible issue in what is shaping up to be a classic run. The best WOLVERINE stories are the ones where the odds are stacked against him. Not only are the stakes high, Logan has no healing power, his cadre of foes are fucking with him, the MICROVERSE has unleashed a sentient virus on Earth and, invasion is imminent. Everybody is sweating the impending calamity, hands tied behind their backs. Cornell and Davis, continue to kill the game. Awesome story, excellent, pacing, stellar art and, a complete package. This story is a page-turner. So damn good.

Thats what I was hearing too, but they just released that his new book will be released under the Marvel Now! tag. Supposedly he will become a hit-man.
One of our local shops is having a huge back issue sale with anything under $5 going for 50 cents and anything over at half off. So I went down and grabbed some good stuff, mostly for my kid or nieces & nephews for Christmas (but isn't it all for me when it comes down to it?) Some Batman Li'l Gotham (beautiful art), Adventure Time Fiona & Cake, Legends of Mouse Guard #1, Power Pack vs Skrull & Franklin Richards for the kids. Some Mara & Hawkeye for me as well as the new Trillium and Samurai Jack at regular price. The only back ish that cost more than 50 cents is the 100 page Superman Adventures based on the Timm cartoon written by Mark Millar at 4 bucks - heard good things about it and think Gus will get into it now that Superman Family is over.
And Trillium? I sort of wish I hadn't known about this book until the trade so I could read it all at once - it flies by so quick and leaves me wanting more every time. My only real complaint is that the digital coloring looks a little weak next to the watercolor (and I generally don't get hung up on wanting things to be done in traditional media)
The issues I got are 4 & 5, not sure if it's any better. My son seemed like he liked it alright but didn't get super-excited about. To be honest, I bought it for me and could almost care less about the story because I love the art so much.
8. "The Shade #s 1-12 (Robinson et al)" In response to Reply # 0
Didn't know about this when it dropped (2011-12) and don't necessarily regret not copping it, but it's pretty damn good - almost enough to make me a Robinson believer and go back and track down more Starman. (All I've read is Grand Guignol, which is similar to this Shade book in that it's a big 12-issue arc and is pretty damn good, though I read it maybe a decade ago.)
Anyhow, among other things, there's an issue illustrated by Darwyn Cooke with J. Bone inks (great combo), and a three-issue mini-arc illustrated by Frazer Irving, so... yeah. Good shit.
11. "Ellis et al: "Counter X" (X-Man #s 63-70): simply awful" In response to Reply # 0
Ellis credited as 'mastermind and co-writer' with some other dude as co-writer. And this solidified my thoughts that usually, unless both writers are known commodities, this type of arrangement is shitty.
Ellis obviously wrote this around the same time he was working on Authority and Planetary, since the central tenet is Nate Grey as 'mutant shaman' and it deals with multiversity heavily. It comes out pretty much totally half-baked, lame. The first arc is almost C grade, a mutant secret society up to no good in the multiverse (which, for some reason, they needed space suits to explore). But the second arc - featuring Maddy Pryor revealed to be Queen Maddy Pryor of Earth 998, revealed to be Jean Grey exiled from some other Earth - was just terrible.
Overall the worst Ellis-associated project I've read by a mile, and confirms the belief that ideas from the Big Idea guys are only good if the Big Idea guys themselves are writing them. Anything 'bbased on ideas by ____' (DC guilty of doing this with Morrison a lot, especially in the post-52 ere) is going to be subpar.

and I'd rather take an opportunity (should it present itself) to do that than to say 'hey, remember that X-Man: Counter X book your name was on but you didn't really write? Man, that was some awful shit."

YO. Wake Up Dead Nitro. From Left Hand Brewery. Russian Imperial Stout. Slammed 2 of the 4 pack. Watched the 10pm news. ILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL, SON! Damn.
There's a lot of love for Rivera, and I dig his stuff alright, but when Samnee took over it took a step up in my opinion (and it was already great). He's probably become my favorite new-ish artist these days. That said, Rivera's covers were fantastic.
