First of all, hiring, Orson Scott Card was a head-scratcher. People got mad, editorial acted. Now... Batwoman. Lesbian. Creative team leaves. Cites editorial differences. Including, DC nixing a proposed storyline featuring a gay wedding. Um... See the consistency? Anyway, this is not a rant BUT an "awareness post". FUCK DC. Get with the times. EMBRACE HOMOSEXUALITY, DON'T SHY AWAY FROM IT. You don't have to be cool with it, you need to be tolerant regardless. Everyone is different. Don't hate because you are not included. Who cares if people are gay? Are you that insecure with yourself, that you have to look down on others?
I realize there may be more to this story but on principle, I find it hard to support a company that is clearly not comfortable with homosexuality or the discussion of it.
I think DC is afraid to open up a dialog about homosexuality. And yes, this needed to be a seperate post, so we could have an "expanded dialog", on the issue.

for creator vision vs editorial mandate. What's surprising is he's the second high profile creator to walk out over Batwoman - they lost Rucka a few years ago after the first arc.
Any 'support for gay rights' in the books from either Marvel or DC is just PR, really.
When Batwoman was reintro'd, DC made a news release about how Batwoman was back and OMG LESBIAN.
Same thing more recently with Earth-2 and Big Gay Al(an Scott). Jokes about weakness to wood ensured.
Marvel had the gay wedding a while back that was 'big news' but it was two characters I'd never heard of before. And Card was writing for them at the time.
I mean, from a political perspective I'm happy to see anything progressive on this front in my comics, but to act like the companies have a particular editorial direction, or even SHOULD have one, with regard to that point, or politics in general, is silly.

They were z listers tho Pied piper Tasmanian Devil Osbidian Grace from the Outsiders And there were others I think
Marvel has/had Freedom Ring, dead in first mini series and wasn't advertised Mystique Northstar Shatterstar Hulking Wiccan And now Prodigy from Xmen Also Psylocke now
Also they got gay Transformers now. Chromedome and Rewind in MORE than meets the gay by James Roberts and published by James Roberts. Its a very good boom.
So a lot of gay characters are there and aren't advertised, or heavily used for that matter either.

there's too much good stuff out on Image, Dark Horse, Boom, Avatar even to get upset about how much DC blows.
I've read hardly any Marvel or DC all year and I still spend too much money on comics.
And I think you'll find that historically (if not as much recently) Marvel's had its fair share of shitty editorial mandating and lack of support for creative vision, so there's really no need to turn it into a 'vs' argument.

Damn near as soon as Wally got married DC screwed him over, multiple times.....Supes isn't a bad example, but that's over now .....and all the other examples aren't really high profile characters .... Aquaman is pretty close, but most people other than fans forget he's married..... I don't think DC has a problem with marriage as much as they like things to b risk free....creators have fun with a character and then they hit the reset button for the next Guy....
