"A Band Called Death (Covino, 2013)"

in light of that infamous post in GD about "can we dead the Rock is Black music nonsense", I figured I'll post about this doc.
An all-Black punk band from the early 1970s.

This doc was AWESOME, even more improbable than "Sugar man". I want this to win this year's Oscar cause it speaks to so many things and hits on so many levels. Awesome.

I figured it'd blow up like Searching For Sugarman but seemed to only get a little bit of attention while liked by everyone I knew who saw it. It's a great story and told very well. Wonder what the next rediscovered band is going to be

What a wonderful sight - 3 brothers from DETROIT, kickin' ass and mashin' out in the 70's... David was a true visionary, and I loved the fact that their family (and their neighborhood) encouraged them to continue doing what they were doing, even if it bothered everybody... and their music went hard, heavy, and funky... though I wonder if they had heard of Funkadelic, as to me, some of Death's sound has some nice sonic parallels with that band...

I sure hate that I missed the run of screenings in L.A. last week, where Death played a handful of sets...

Really, really good movie. One of the best of the year for me.

Probably one of the best shows I've seen in terms of energy. I, and just about everyone in the place, was reduced to a ball of sweat by the end.

Had never heard their music or seen their doc or story beforehand either.

Always refreshing to be a fan of something on the first listen.

Their journey tho is incredible.

So, so, so good.

David Hackney was one of those guys who was just on another planet than everyone else. So ahead of his time.
