and the studio was expecting 40million+ this weekend?
um, it looks like it is a bomb in the states. It will, no it most definitely should make the 250 million overseas for it to make its money back...
but this weekend, I think it flopped.
And, I have no fight in this post...but, I felt that with the ads and momentum for this movie (Will and Jaden were on BOTH sides of the Atlantic promoting the hell out of this movie going up to its release), I would have thought AE would have at least made 40 mil...
but 27? ouch.
and visually, it looked interesting.
But, the fact that M. Night wasn't even acknowledged in the press or commercials and critics, and let's be honest, Hollywood, has been ITCHING to COME FOR Will Smith and his clan....this was all the ammo they needed to declare this a bomb.

lolol
but taking an L or not, I just don't think this film had a chance.
Critics are coming for Will and by proxy Jaden, and NO ONE was going to stop that from happening.
from what I've gathered (and I haven't see the movie but I'm planning to) from folk I know and TRUST who've seen it, the movie is visually fun but the story and characters are wack
the fact that M. Night isn't even mentioned is both hilarious, wack and telling about what Hollywood REALLY thinks about M. Night

That with the hype around After Earth (promos at least looked OK), he was bound to... 'bounce back'... somewhat... now, all he can bank on is the only movie of his that can spawn a sequel.
Has a director ever given so much positive early on only to have that revoked late in their career?

But he was never getting a bounce back from this He wasn't even mentioned in promos or press having directed this.
At all. That's a bad sign and even MORE damage to your career if a studio refuses to acknowledge your work to a movie because of your past reputation AND the studio is blaming him for the shitty weekend box office performance and he didn't even write the movie.
M. Night should even shoulder the L for this. But, since he's movie poison now, he is.
M isn't getting a career resurgence. Stick a fork in his ass. He's done

Dude's reputation is so tainted that his name isn't even mentioned as writer or director for After Earth, which tanked. I don't think he'll be involved in anymore films in the near future... On The Lookout 4: some new music. WTF is going on this year?
