because this doesn't scream Stay at all
Trance logline: An art auctioneer who has become mixed up with a group of criminals partners with a hypnotherapist in order to recover a lost painting.
Stay logline: This movie focuses on the attempts of a psychiatrist to prevent one of his patients from committing suicide while trying to maintain his own grip on reality.
I'm curious, how are these movies similar? No shade, I'm generally curious.
Because Trance is clearly a heist crime drama/thriller...
5. "They just look similar cinematography wise" In response to Reply # 3
The hypnotherapist/psychiatrist bit seems somewhat familiar as well. It's been awhile since I've seen Stay but I remember wishing that they would've cast someone else besides Ewen as the lead.
Big Danny Boyle fan though so maybe a better trailer will sway me.

AHHH i see...it does but Trance seems firmly in the crime thriller area where Stay was quite a psychological horror thriller...
I *HOPE* Boyle doesn't go that route like STAY did...I'd be pissed off.

I don't recall a lot of the horror elements in Stay but Boyle switched up Sunshine to that effect which pissed a lot of peeps off.

I'm not gonna say anything other than I don't feel a specific character should've gotten away.
Doing 2 Danny Boyle Q&As, one for this and one for Shallow Grave, he's hysterical. And he'll gladly take pictures cool cool dude.
Side note: I saw Shallow Grave for the first time tonight. And even though Trance is dope, Shallow Grave shits all over it. The two films are very similar and are written by the same dude.

if it's who I think it is, from what i've gathered from folk who've seen this already overseas, folk felt the same way.

he is...he is one of the directors, that i'd want to direct any damn movie I write...he's fantastic.

YO! Shallow Grave is fantastic. Why people don't love this movie as much as they should is beyond me...
imho, it's a damn good template for how to write a crime thriller...

Beyond that, there's really no reason to see this movie. Like many amnesia-type thrillers, this one is never weighted in reality so by the middle of the film, anything could be anything and you've almost given up caring. It also doesn't help that the stakes of the film aren't the greatest and getting the painting back is really a non-starter.
Visually, Danny Boyle does his thing and the music propels most of the scenes more than the story does. Still, this film is easily near the bottom of Boyle's filmography.
16. "decent movie. not Boyle's best at all *SPOILERISH*" In response to Reply # 0
like a poster said, it's an amnesia thriller and those fall apart because they set up for them is always flimsy.
and how all the characters tied together, rang false....
given that, McAvoy, Dawson and Cassel has *GREAT* chemistry together and I would see the three of them in a movie again.
Dawson especially stood out because its rare that she gets a chance to STRETCH and though Lamb wasn't as fully realized as she could have been, Dawson gave her some interesting character notes...and the fact that, essentially, *SHE* was kinda the mastermind behind it all was intriguing...
and yes, hetero dudes, Dawson was looking RIIIIIIGGGHT. I have never seen a naked woman get so *MUCH* applause from both MEN and WOMEN in a movie theater EVAR.
IT was a solid movie...that most definitely won't be remembered come fall but still a solid and fun movie to watch on a Sunday afternoon.
