I mean, I get the "argument" ("He's not a star, STOP PRAISING THESE WHITE MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, etc." *yawn*), but comparing Clooney to Washington is kinda type silly. For one, let's take a look at the last 5 projects that each has done (as an actor).
Denzel
Flight Safe House Unstoppable The Book of Eli The Taking of Pelham 123
Clooney
The Descendants The Ides of March The American Up in the Air Fantastic Mr. Fox
Take a look at each of those movies, and tell me which ones were designed to have big box office openings. And here's a hint: 3 of Clooney's 5 were limited openings that weren't supposed to open big. And the other two either opened at #1 or #2.
Safe House is not aimed at the same audience that The Descendants is. Fantastic Mr. Fox vs. The Book of Eli does not a fair comparison make. It's silly to compare movies that are *designed* to open big (every single one of Denzel's last 5 was designed and made to have big openings, because they're high concept) with movies that aren't really aiming for the same audience and same audience size.
Anyone saying otherwise is full of shit.
There's a reason Clooney doesn't have very many summer blockbuster and summer blockbuster-type movies on his resume (The Perfect Storm - hit; The Oceans movies - hits), and it's not because the white media has propped him up as some great actor and super box office movie star. That's diversionary, time-wasting bullshit, and I can't look at anyone who would seriously argue that (or cyse it up for message board shits and giggles) with a straight face.
Even if the white media has allegedly propped Clooney up to be a bigger star than some think he is, the fact of the matter is that he's not picking the same so-called blockbusters that other stars like Denzel are. Even if they're both stars, and one allegedly doesn't deserve it, it's pretty clear that each star has picked a different lane and has the acclaim, success and clout to stay there.
It should be noted that while Clooney's last 5 projects didn't "open," their audiences built gradually and ended up being hits.

It should also be noted that George Clooney's a producer on Argo.
Look, I'm sick of this dumb shit. Everyone knows what kind of projects Clooney picks, and can also dig the fact that Denzel takes much larger swings for the fences in bigger projects, gives great performances, and *is praised to the high heavens by the same white media that praises the supposed undeserving Clooney*.
This either/or, fake apples/real oranges bullshit is misleading, not to mention highly annoying.
