"Jack Reacher (McQuarrie, 2012)"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK7y8Ou0VvM

Tom Cruise is not who I pictured when described in "Killing Floor" (If you haven't read that book, read that shit!!! I guarantee you'll finish it in a week).

But other than that this is JR. Goddamn this preview is like watching the page jump to life on screen. I'm there. Longo where you at?

Ugh. Just seems like this one is a prime candidate for the "fans of the books who get a little too pissy when the movie isn't identical to the movie bitch loudly, everywhere they can, and every chance they get", because Tom Cruise is pretty much the opposite of the guy you picture in the books.

I mean... there's pretty much nobody with chops and charisma that I can think of for the role. Maybe Ahhhnold way, way back in the day, could've at least given us the physical sense of who this guy is.

Personally I'm interested in how they translate him to Crooze.

As a fan of the series, when they first announced TC I gave it the side eye. But after watching this trailer that's Reacher. I completely understand if niggas cry foul on TC. Dude is not everyone's cup of tea. With that said, it does look like they're staying true to the character, so the bitching should be to a minimum. Question is are they gonna stick by the books and keep it R rated? (Doubt it).

Surprisingly, Cruise was the best thing about this. His portrayal of Reacher was in strong spirit to the books, so my hats off to him.

But otherwise, this is standard movie of the week fare. Which is a shame cause "One Shot" is an excellent book. Problem with all that comes down to the script. It was just a bad translation. Also, the score didn't help at all. And some of the scenes were lighted like broadcast network drama such as CSI or Elementary.

Everyone seemed to like it. I hope if there is a sequel, they can get someone worthy to make a better JR movie.

The story is a mess, the things that the villains do are ridiculous. Tom cruise is very good though. The action scenes (the car chase and the quarry scene) are well done.

Also what was up with the limited use of Werner Herzog. They introduce a creepy villain(his voice is scary)and then they don't really do much with him.

This is the kind of mid-budget hard-boiled action film Christopher McQuarrie showed us he could deliver when he wrote The Way of the Gun. This half-ironic, half-intense style suits Cruise well.

It's not life-changing, but I laughed very hard, was held in great suspense for a few sequences, and got to leave doing my best Werner Herzog impression. Not sure what more you want.

This is Cruise's best non-sequel in close to a decade. Thoroughly enjoyable. The perfect flick for me to buy on Blu-Ray and pop in next summer on a rainy day.

but a predictable, tedious experience in the theater

the thrill-less thriller, the suspense-less suspense film

this is probably what Alex Cross aspired to

2 hours and some odd minutes of Tom Cruise hitting his marks and using his words.

Werner Herzog is criminally underused and really the only sign of life during the movie unfortunately they strand him by having him say too little and do even less.

I spent the second act ogling Rosamund Pike's cleavage waiting for her and Tom Cruise to confirm the plot that they made obvious in act 1.

The best part of the movie was hearing Jack Reacher talked about like Bill Brasky.

Christopher McQuarrie is 0-2 w/ me. Only adding to my theory that screenwriters make the worst directors.

I would have liked this movie a lot more if I hadn't been really watching it. Wait for it on TNT or Trans-Atlantic flight when you have something else to do or nowhere else to go.

A bit predictable. It's your typical conventional procedural crime thriller but with genuine humor. All around acting and action were good.

Werner Herzog should've been a Bond villain. He's born to be one.

Yeah, Rosamund Pike's cleavage were definitely representing in the 2nd half of the film, a bit distracting.

I wouldn't mind a franchise out of this. I mean, they have several books, why not?

This was awful. There were so many dumb plot points that made no sense that I noticed the one that mattered and wrote it off as someone's farfetched imagination. The acting was terrible -- although I have no quarrels with Cruise.

But I still kinda sorta liked it.

Even if Pittsburgh was a character in the movie, it was, storywise, kinda meh.

Shout out to David Oyelowo, Rosamund Pike and Jai Courtney (Spartacus). Y'all deserved way better than what you got but you *ALL* did well with what you had.

Tom Cruise: yea, he's not Jack Reacher at all (and assuming Gerard Butler could do it is a fucking fallacy. For starters, you'd want the person to be able to CARRY THE MOVIE, BE IMPOSING, and not look like someone smashed his face in with a aluminum covered BRICK. ugh) but he worked in this role.

The movie itself was okay. A relatively solid B

I was entertained for most of the movie, bored in other parts...

The fight scenes were dope, the bathroom one hilarious, the car chase was dope, Rosamund Pikes titty meat perfectly teased all movie and I liked the lil dialogue about being free while watching the desk job folk. Duvall cracked me up at the end and Herzog's fingerless villain was ridiculous great.

3.5/5

I finally figure out how to get 4K UHD Remux files with HDR to display properly on my TV - so I downloaded this to try it out.

This movie is good in many ways, and awful in many others.

The awfulness is: The dialog is so expository it's insane.

The good is: The action pieces are compelling.
The scene where he's jumped by 3 guys inside the house was funny.
The final battle absolutely built tension and paid off.

Rosamund Pike's tits DOMINATED several scenes in a very un-needed but not un-appreciated way.

book fans beef. It's a totally different story/character to change the character from 6'5" to 5'1"(just kidding).

As bad an actor this series guy is, when he walks into a room or stares down a bad guy, it hits waaaay different then when TC does it.

33. "Yep. They undermine his size in the show in a bad way some scenes"
In response to Reply # 32

He’s a towering Hulk in one scene.

In the next, he’s not much taller than the petite-looking female lead.

I kept thinking... he’s definitely big.... but not THAT big.

So I looked him up, which was a mistake. He’s only 6”2

He still works, but I feel like that size difference is still understated from what he’s supposed to be.

I like the actor well enough for the show, though I have no desire to see him in anything outside of this.

Minor spoiler, if you’ve watched til the end:

I hated the way that piss-ant sidekick got so much offense on him.

Reacher is a beast all through this thing, but they let that fuck get in a LOT.

I get making dude vulnerable, but half the appeal was that he’s this nearly invincible Hulk with nearly genius level intellect. So seeing him get washed like that, by such a scrub ass character, was a disappointment.

"Ritchson, who at 6’4” and 235 pounds fits the physical description of Jack Reacher, is known for his starring role as Thad Castle on Spike TV’s cult series Blue Mountain State and followup feature Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland. He currently co-stars as Hawk/Hank Hall on DC Universe’s Titans. Ritchson will headline Jack Reacher while also continuing on the comic book-based series, I hear. His TV series credits also include major roles on Blood Drive and Smallville, on which he played Aquaman."

If you google "Alan Ritchson height", 8 of the first 10 list him as 6"2, including the Google results summary.

https://www.celebheightwiki.com/alan-ritchson-height
https://www.celebheights.com/s/Alan-Ritchson-4212.html
https://superstarsbio.com/bios/alan-ritchson/
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2024927/

https://www.wiki.ng/en/wiki/alan-ritchson-actor-hunger-games-wife-bio-age-kids-net-worth-jack-reacher-movies-and-american-idol-500443

All list him at 6"2

Only two list him at 6"4, and one of them quotes that deadline article.

I'd say the fact that the vast majority of sources are listing him at 6"2, coupled with the fact that, in multiple shots in the show, he's really not that much taller than characters who he is supposed to tower over, gives serious credence to the 6"2 listing.

I think they got the right guy to play the character. I'm starting the second book, since this season was based on book 1.

One thing I've read about the character is, he has a strong sense of justice, and I think his relatively quiet/calm demeanor plays well to that sense.

So I think they got the right guy. But the height thing kinda stood out for me. Another very minor gripe. This was good fun.

And as soon as I saw the whole series I knew exactly what the spoiler would be.

That fight was bullshit. I don't understand why they didn't set up that the nephew was also a Vet with training. Made no sense that he could hang and get the best of Reacher.

There were a couple of times he ran from people when I was like, dude, you took on 10 dudes in the Prison bathroom. Do that again.

Minor gripes for a good series.

It was an 80s action movies serialized for 8 episodes. I was here for it.

I mean, SOMETHING.

He was such a smarmy, weaselly nothing of a character.

Let that prick get obliterated. Reacher is presented in such a way, that we don't need him to look weak. Watching him break motherfuckers is the appeal- and when someone does test him, make it someone worthy.

>There were a couple of times he ran from people when I was

Yes! I need them to up the ante on his gangsta. I don't really want this dude to be vulnerable. Let him be an invincible machine, until/unless he comes across another machine.

Yep. This was a fun show and I can't wait for S2. I hope it gets a good run. S2 has already been greenlit so that's a plus.

I told my wife I thought that dude got too close to beating Reacher, and she said "well, they did start the fight with Reacher getting hit in the head with a crowbar a couple times." I thought that was a fair enough point, lol.

That said, if we'd seen one other scene in which weasel dude proved himself to be really quick or really skilled, would've gone a long way toward making the fight seem a little more plausible.

When i first saw that he was cast i had my doubts, only knowing him as AquaMan, but i thought he actually killed it this series. Fit Reacher to a tee. I actually thought the actor playing the lead detective was the weak link and terrible.

I thought Malcolm Goodwin was outstanding. His journey over the course of the show was one of the things that made it work so well.

He definitely won me over by the end of it, so that journey of his character played very well.

But I absolutely get why someone would dislike him.

Although I enjoyed tremendously the comedy of watching dude react to Reacher's casual violence. Having a stiff guy next to your vigilante of justice is always a terrific dynamic, gives both characters a ton of stuff to play.

I was mostly objecting to the idea that the performance was weak or bad. Because I thought he was one of the best "stiff sidekick" guys I've seen in recent memory tbh, lol. And his transformation down the stretch was genuinely awesome. (And his final kill fucking ruuuuuuled, lmao.)

By the end I wanted to retract my earlier statement, Alan Ritchson performed the role awesomely. His lack of emotional response fit the character and made way more sense as a character by the end.

I warmed up to Malcolm Goodwin over time and enjoyed the shit-talking by the last few episodes, but I still don't know if he was the best cast for the role. He was trying to do a Sidney Poitier uptightness but Sidney also had a certain charisma that this dude lacked. I didn't mind him by the end, but maybe it was a missed opportunity.
