Sat Jan-15-11 12:15 PM by scorpion

taumbout actors/actresses who had all the tools to become A-list in Hollywod and must have

a)made some dumb/unfortunate career decisions
b)been such a complete asshole behind the scenes that its choked their career
c)decided that the limelight want their thing
d)pissed off someone important in Hollywood
e)had a habit that wrecked whatever chance they had

feel free to speculate! LOL

this cat shined in a great ensemble cast in a classic film where he was the lead...of course I speak of The Princess Bride (one of my favorite films)

he had the looks, the skills (both comedic and dramatic) to be an A-List leading man...

then.....nothing

now, he's not starving or anything--he works pretty steadily but its all background supporting role stuff...

what happened?

Acting as cannon fodder in some horror B-movie is hardly the domain of an A-lister.

But I doubt anybody expected it to do so well going in... He probably was not paid big money for it.

In any case, the horror genre is more or less considered the bush league ghetto of the movie world.

I think what did him in was his box office failures...

when they put him in the lead of the movie it always flopped...

The Punisher
Stander
and there was another one...

he doing alright with Hung, but I think he was just so happy to be in the lead that he didnt question the quality of the films...

he was really supposed to be next...

he was the focal point of Vanity Fair's Hot List...I think they stopped doing Hot List because of him because there was always somebody on the list whose career died right after being on the list...but it usually wasnt the person on TOP of the list...

after that, he was finished....he never got another crack at movies, so me went to TV, and EVERY show he was on got canceled almost immediately

Yeah I thought this guy was going to be the next Tom Hanks, do some funny comedies, maybe a couple of serious indie films to show that he had range and then land the role of that would make him famous, but that didn't happen and now he's co-starting in Race to Witch Mountain .

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.-Tyler Durden

I think he said that after The Last Dragon, how many more black martial arts movies were there for him to star in? And casting directors didn't exactly rate him as a serious actor for other roles.

Plus, I think he admitted to being a little bit of a prick for a while.

Hauser - I remember the first time I saw Higher Learning thinking he was gonna be huge. not necessarily as a lead but one of the bigger, more well known character actors out there. he's still a "that guy"

Renfro - We lost him early but I always thought he'd be a force. One of my friends worked on a short with him and said he was about as unstable as they come. Like on some split personality shit.

I actually thought that Michael Pitt was Brad Renfro in all of the Boardwalk Empire ads before the show aired.

I was happy to see him working again (or so I thought).

Is Tom Cruise's old ass going to be jumping off of cliffs killing ten dudes with one gun? They need to use a younger actor as lead for the series at this point.

Is it coming out this year? Where's the promo for it?

came out of nowhere with Zebrahead

followed it up with some interesting ass indies and tv work (American Gothic, Dead Presidents, Fresh, New York Undercover)

she hit BIG with BLADE (1998)

did a mix of tv and smaller movies...came back with Civil Brand, then basically disappeared.

I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that she basically called out Lee Daniels for passing on her for the lead role in Monster's Ball when it was discovered that she had a MAJOR HAND in working on the character and making sure that she was as realistic as possible...

only to be told she wasn't hollywood pretty (dark skinned) and they instead went with Halle Berry and later STRIPPED that script of all that Wright put into it.

it was in a Salon.com interview that has mysteriously disappeared and can't be found again circa 2002

N'bushe does indie work and is apparently doing some behind the scenes work as a theatre producer for black plays, etc.

I still think she has the chops to at least be a character actress...

hell she'd probably have a better career on tv...

he's a classically trained triple threat (singer/dancer/actor) in an era where he can't put that to use very often.

He's most effective in "Hairspray" and "Enchanted", movies that are very light in tone and aren't that impressive to high-minded cinema folk. I wonder why he was never cast one of the "prestige" musicals (Chicago, etc)

Constantly appearing as the boring "other man" in superhero films didn't do much for anything but his pockets.

Dude was funny and charismatic. Kind of weird that 40 Year Old Virgin was his high water mark. Seems like Craig Robinson slid into his spot, and he's a less likely "star" than Malco.

and he said he's just picky about his roles. He doesn't like roles which have him playing out stereotypes and generally turns them down.

She's got alot of good roles in noteworthy movies, i.e. Mystic River, the HBO show In Treatment, and The Office. But she's a really good actress and thought she would have more work.

But then again there just aren't many roles for women after age 40.

I'm looking over her IMDb and while she's done more TV work over the last 10 years, she doesn't have any roles that stand out.

If Nia were 10 years younger she would have been able to get on shows like Greys. A show where her warmth would be able to be featured.

She also could have played Kerry's role in her movie with Chris Rock.

She's got a good relationship with her kids so that is obviously more important. But she could leave the kids with Dad every so often so she could go and act.

he can play young roles because we know he's too old for them

Can't really put him in mature roles because he looks so young.

Not much you can do with him outside of heavy drama and light comedy.

He needs good roles in small productions to "stretch" his onscreen persona a lot more.

Happened to PTP and other boards: replies in posts and often posts themselves disappeared.
