>Aside from (presumably) Maggie Gyllenhaal, does anyone really >prefer Peter Sarsgaard over anyone else? In An Education, the >third act turn, where you realize dude is schmuck, while it >certainly was signaled earlier on by his lifestyle, wasn't all >that "big" to me, because the second I saw / see Sarsgaard on >the screen I thought / think "bum ass loser" (c) someone.
Yup, I disliked his character from the beginning. One thing that viscerally bugged me was the shot of Mulligan's character giving a huge smile and a laugh just seconds after meeting Sarsgaard's character. It makes sense that we infer that she's smitten right off the bat, but it still bugged me.
>>Yeah, I'm real curious to see how that and Bahrani's Western >>will turn out. > >Bahrani's next one is a while away though, right? What did >you think of his short with Herzog? I was frankly bored.
Yeah, last I "heard," they'd start shooting in August. As for the short, yeah, I was bored, too. I like the concept, but not the execution.
>DiCaprio in The Departed = all-time top ten performance by an >actor. (He and Gosling in Half Nelson represent the decade >just passed on that list.)
Watched the film last night. His scene at Farmiga's character's home is really, really, really impressive stuff. Other highpoints are the therapy scenes, the "chop me up..." scene, and 1 or 2 of his phone convos w/ Sheen.
However, I don't find him convincing enough in his first 2 scenes with Sheen and Wahlberg, for example. And it took me a while into the film like most of his line readings. It still stands that it's the Leo performance that I like the most though.
>>I like >>Gosling much more though. > >Oh, no question, I do too. Blue Valentine is probably my most >anticipated film of the year. He's my favorite actor.
Going off of your past statements, I didn't doubt that you did. I do think he's the best American actor around his age give or take 5 years or so.
Going back to my earlier little list, Gregoire Colin would be on there, too.
