Yeah, at one time I was a huge fan of this show. Now it seems tired and the actors are just going thru the motions. I really hate to see this one go down in quality.

They keep changing things up trying to make it better, but it doesn't seem to work.

Michael is very unappealing to me at this point. I used to root for him, but now I dislike him as a person.

Jim in really one note now.

They should focus on Daryl from the warehouse, Andy, and Kevin. Those guys are very funny.

i don't get all this hand wringing with the office. obviously it's never going to be as fresh as it was at the beginning, but some of the stuff they've done in recent seasons-- the whole dynamic with stringer bell's character hating jim comes immediately to mind-- has been brilliant. it's still the only scripted show on television i never miss, and probably will be till nbc finds a way to screw it off the air.

this season has not been. while S3 and S4 got a lot of criticism, this one is the worst in terms of consistency. you have to sit through two or three consecutive clunkers to see a good episode.

plus, the bad ones are *really* bad now: Stanley's affair, the mafia insurance agent, the two episodes about Michael and Pam's mom, Scott's Tots? that last one takes the crown as the worst in series' history.

and none of the new plot threads have been interesting. dueling managers is a yawner. the Sabre takeover has been very flat as well.

that was irredeemable action by Michael, therefore unfunny. next season they'll have him poisoning a soup kitchen.

they're not running him for office, they're trying to make him funny. which scott's tots definitely was.

on him being the joke of the people he's trying to insult. if he's just running over homeless people and burning down schools, it's not funny -- he's just an asshole.

the whole point of his character is that he *is* an asshole. the world's most well-meaning asshole. that's pretty much the entire character. if you're not on board with that, i don't know what to tell you. michael has done tons of well-intentioned stuff that's hurt people (for example, outting oscar) and the vast majority of it is hilarious. not sure why you draw the line at inner-city kids not getting their promised scholarships.

my big problem with Scott's Tots (and other episodes...Phyllis' Wedding) is that Michael is usually punished when he goes too far. in that case, the show rewarded him for his behavior.

and yes, I do draw the line at laughing at Michael's idiocy. I didn't think the scenario of kids not getting their scholarships because he's a dumbass was that clever or funny to begin with, just like I wouldn't if Micheal mistakenly burned Jim and Pam's house down next Thursday. or killed Stanley.

the kids actually worked harder in school because of it

like most of the shit about the show that people criticize, this actually happened

I remember when people said michael wouldn't have driven into a lake cuz his gps said to and that shit was obviously real too. it's something that has happened to someone, and do we really believe michael isn't in the bottom 10% of dumb small town businessmen?

didn't know it had a real basis, but that's still not funny to me. "oh, a foundation promised college tuition then went under? let's have Michael do it, but then make him a hero for it at the end."

I think it's really obvious when they do stuff like that that it's ripped from real life stories, and when the criticism is that it's too evil or not realistic, you're just not getting it.

but humor is obviously subjective.

and did you read your own story? George Abel of the Phoenix Foundation, who later said his foundation went before the kids graduated high school.

Me too; this mofo had a battle ax in his backseat!

Also was dying when he smashed the fuck outta Jim and Pam's kitchen, then slept half naked in their bed to boot.

I agree the overall quality is down, but it still has its moments in damn near every ep and I plan on continuing to watch.
