"They really need to remake Robocop"

We're getting 80s garbage like A-Team, GI Joe, and Transformers but not something that was actually decent? Someone needs to clean up the streets of Detroit again. Get Jason Statham to star and Michael Man to direct

He was on it, then supposedly out, but last word is that he might be back in. Either way, they are definitely considering a remake.

robocop 1 was very good, but no better overall than the a-team, g.i. joe, or transformers (which were all very good in the 80's) in terms of enjoyment and fun. besides, we got 1 good robocop movie. we don't need another.

Robocop is the definition of a satire, basically ripping into the cowboy mythology of America, capitalism and the media. If you're to lump this film with the Steven Seagul and Dirty Harry films then I think you need to watch Robocop again.

I'm doing this "2 movies a day" thing anyway and could use some more titles. But a lot of stuff from that period was out and out crap that people try to justify now as having some sort of value. I don't recall reading any "it's really satire!" comments from when it was released.

Like I said (And you're not the only one to do this I see it a lot), it's very unfair to lump it into that vigilant cop category b/c it's a lot smarter than that. It's not an in your face satire like "Bob Roberts" but it's defiantly clear to see (Especially the commercials).

Technology. The whole bulky, clunky look of Robocop (and Ed-209, or whatever its name was) fit in with the 80s, and the craze over robots. Typical of the director, the movie seemed to be even aware of how goofy it's premise was.

Now though? Unless it was a retro movie poking fun at the 80s, it would just feel hopelessly dated.

They would have to make Robocop basically a cyborg, where he looks human. Then it would be another cyborg enemy. And then, well, you haven't remade Robocop anymore, you've remade Cyborg.

So I guess what I'm saying is, they should leave Robocop alone and remake Cyborg.

What is there left to say that the original didn't say perfectly?

Aronofsky is on the short list of directors I'd trust for a reboot, but I'm still skeptical that it can be done well.

I mean I trust that Aronofsky will do something interesting with it, but at the end of the day the original still applies today so the remake imo can't really take on any new ground (only retread)

Why the fuck do people feel the need to remake movies that were GOOD to begin with? Robocop was good because of when it was made and how it was made. If it was made now it would be a piece of shit. Guaranteed.

There's no need to remake Robocop - in fact Robocop is what America has become.

The military/industrial complex. The VAPID TV. The stupidity. We're AT Robocop now. We just need a new documentary on America.

The first time I saw Robo Cop I was eight. I didn't understand how violent and graphic it was till I saw it again seven years later. That's what made it a good movie the over the top violence. Hollywood not doin movies like that anymore.

now is that the movies tapped into a hysteria at the time related to everyones fear that our cities were losing the battle against crime. With Crime at a record low across the country, remakes of either movie wouldn't really have any deeper significance other than popcorn action movies.
