"who was the third worst actor/actress in The Wire?"

it's a loaded question but i say third because in my mind (and i would think, most other peoples') Larry Gilliard Jr. as D'angelo Barksdale and Pablo Schreiber as Nick Sobotka were far and away the two worst.

So who's third?

i still blame hip-hop.

Despite that and his stiff body (and elbows and knees that don't lock out), I still think he gives one of the series' best performances.

I say Michelle Paress (Alma Gutierrez) and Richard DeAngelis (Colonel Foerster), but their roles were comparatively small. I don't agree about Gilliard but do agree about Schreiber. So out of the big roles, I'll say James Ransone (Ziggy) who wasn't terrible through and through (his work in the scenes after the shooting is outstanding). People will probably bring up Sonja Sohn and I agree that hers is near the bottom but she had some fantastic line readings.

he was a hateable character, sure, but his performance was great.

him and his dad drunk after he burns the hundred?

him zipping around while johnny 50 cuts the fence?

and with landsman after shooting double G is obvious.

he just captured that character perfectly i thought.

most of the other ones you said were pretty good, too, i thought.

i still blame hip-hop.

roles in the series, I think he is bottom 3 though he is nowhere near as bad as Schreiber. He's mostly down there because I like a lot of performances more than his and I felt him acting instead of "being."

>he was a hateable character, sure, but his performance was

How much I dislike or hate a character doesn't factor in my opinion on the performance. I think his character is pretty irritating in Generation Kill but I liked his performance there.

Gillard was a fine actor, he just couldn't pull off the accent. His slang always sounded false. Nick Sobotka did kind of suck.

Sonja Sohn is by far the worst actor considering how integral she was to the show. She has no presence and has a distracting smirk after every damn line. But there are definitely worse actors with smaller parts: Officer Stupid Haircut, Snoop, Alma (the other two aren't trained actors so is this chick a real actor or what?).

I don't know if she's trained but she had acted in theater and done commercials and stuff. She's Gilliard's wife.

At least Snoop was cast to lend the show authenticity. The actress who played Alma didn't even look the part. I always figured she knew somebody involved in the show- I guess I was right.

co-fucking-sign.

I thought he was the worst on the show. Tried waaaaaaaaaaaaay too hard. In season two I remember dood made some joke in front of his crew and they -- and they're ACTING now -- didn't even want to laugh. Meth's all reaching out to them, trying to get a pound or handshake out of them. That scene made/makes me cringe and was my "moment of clarity" concerning his horrendous acting on the show.

the deacon cat. jay landsman. snoop, of course.

mef is bad but his charm/persona still wins

a lot of the accents are off. son that plays partlow don't sound hood AT ALL. stringer sounds like a new yorker.

i actually like gilliard's work on that show. he overdoes it @ times but still, a lot of standout scenes.

out of the regulars, sonja sohn might be the worst. dom (herc) is no brando either.

>Terri D'agistino (sp?)

i don't really look at the performances and think "who is the worst?". the performances seem to inform the characters for me, but i really didn't like brandy burre/theresa d'agostino.

the deacon was sorta bad. d'agostino was prob the worst of season 3, but she wasn't approaching d'angelo/afflake bad in my mind.

i still blame hip-hop.

McNulty and String make the list too. They stayed letting that British accent creep in, but that's a ridiculous criteria, so NO.

Larry Gilliard is a very good actor.

except the guy who played Marlow;he always sounded like he was talking through clenched teeth or something; and sometimes it was obvious that Idris Elba was trying real hard not to speak with an english accent

Cutty's my dude, but his facial expression was always the same: like he's some kind of sex offender.

you out of your mind if u cited ziggy, jay landsmann or even dangelo
what's next ? bubbles ? bodie ?
I also agree with whoever cited Marlo. he really did a poor job portraying that character but he was an amateur when he landed on the show so...
there's no point really knocking them for their lack of skills

next worst is prolly the dude who played Daniels yeah. he's a better singer

oh btw "nice dolphin nigguh" is the wire's greatest quote
