There is never going to be another crime drama as good as this again. This shit could've taken place in Trenton (except for the docks). Damn the way they dealt with streets is like sitting on my front porch. Gotta say though Season 2 was ass to me.

They just wanted to add another aspect that not many pay attention to w/ the docks, but nevertheless is still a huge problem and also very depressing. And even though the story was about the docks, they were trying to say something for ANYONE who works unskilled labor anywhere, not just that little group of people.

Season 1 and 4 are great because the first introduced us to B-More and it's characters and Season 4 with the kids was heartbreaking.
Season 3 is a close second cause that was edge of your seat type shit.
Season 5 is third and from what I've heard it does portray a newsroom perfectly. Plus I loved the ending montage set to BBOA's version of the theme. Kima's a snitch bitch tho...
Season 2 is last because I was not into the docks at all. And it kinda felt all over the place. This I do love about this Season is The Greek and his right hand man. I really love that he gets away. Beadie is also a great character. As for the Sobotka's I was glad what happened to them.

I love The Greek and I'm glad he didn't meet bad ends or suffered repercussions at all during Seasons 2, 4 & 5. I also love how the B-More's finest doesn't even know he's back in town at the show's end. I really did wish Marlo got popped though, Prop Joe was a favorite too.
The three prequels that were on the last disc were underwhelming also. The only one that was cool was Young Omar.
i can see someone not caring about ziggy (though by the time it was over i felt bad for him too) but how can you be happy about what happened to frank?? all the dirt he did was to save his local. that final frank and ziggy scene was one of the powerful moments of the series.

To me they got what's coming to them and paid the consequences. I had no sympathy for them nor did I find them that engaging as characters. I find it pretty funny you guys are taking this to heart. Shit has nothing to do with skin color.

My own personal sympathy for those characters is rooted in the parallels I saw between those longshoreman and the port of Oakland (where I live) At the end of season two I cried, for Frank, but also cuz he reminded me of the fathers of my friends who were laid off over the years. It hit really close to home.

The first time through, I watched one episode at a time, with a day or two between, plus I had a few waits while the seasons were preparing to come out on dvd.
This time, I've got all five seasons in front of me, and yesterday I watched 6 episodes of S1.
It doesn't get better than The Wire.

I complete the second time through at the accelerated pace. S5 for me suffered from my knowing that when I finished it, I truly had finished watching The Wire for the first time, and I tried to make it last longer by waiting between episodes, which made S5 seem a little disjointed (ha!).

the sound of Earle's vocals. The claps are incredibly wack though. Overall I like it. I think on a commentary Simon called it Earle's honky hip hop or something.

Season 1 is mine though if it weren't for the electric guitar solo and the accompanying "oh yeah, mmmm," 4 would be my favorite. Hearing kids sing it adds another emotional layer as it works like emotional memory for me in that when I hear that song my body feels like it did when watching the "You gonna look out for me?" scene and a bunch of other Season 4 scenes.

first off...wow. Ya'll were right...should of done this before bond. That said damn this show is good. I can get down with pretty much all of them save for 2 and maybe 5. I liked them but that slow burn of 2 was like come the fuck on...DO SOMETHING!!! Oh and I liked how the son made a cameo in season 4 or 5 after his bid.
But 5....five seemed purely to tie up loose ends. And to show how the shit never ends..>But damn if it wasn't some off the wall batty shit.
