Personally I'm indifferent to Amos and Andy. Projecting contemporary sensibilities on the show is problematic, so I don't think it should be locked in a vault and covered in cement. But basaglia is on some bullshit claiming it's better than a host of other black shows. I love old TV just as much as anyone else, and I'll make concessions for early TV when I compare it to more modern fair...but that show just ain't my speed.

in the '50s, if you saw a black face on tv, it was generally as a manservant, a suspect in a crime drama, or a savage in some tarzan movie. amos 'n andy was really the first + only show where you'd see black men depicted as hard-working, entrepreneurial, loyal, devoted to family, professional, warm-hearted.

Nat King Cole had a splendid variety show that went bust in one season because racists couldn't stand for him to invite on white guests, much less fraternize with them. And he definitely wasn't a coon.
Besides, this question mainly surrounds Meet the Browns, you know, the show that is currently on now?
And the back and forth is Amos n Andy repertoire. It’s outdated, outplayed, and somewhat uncomfortable to see this as a progression of black entertainment.
I'm glad TP is giving black folks work, but this show is awful.
