WTF is so "interesting" about her character?

Nothing, actually.

She's not interesting.

Neither is the story.

Neither are the themes.

Neither is the dialogue.

'Kids' is basically kiddie porn.

Its stupid.

The filmmaker fucked up and used his own script....Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, etc) initially wrote the script, and it would been a lot better.

Waking Life is a great weed movie...Scanner Darkly, Linklater is so enamoured with the rotoscoping (the animation technique) that it fucks up the pace of the film. There is no tension when Keanu Reeves character starts to bug out...its just a mess. I was mad I sat through it.

I wouldn't doubt the book is better, but that doesn't make the movie worst than Waking Life.

same can be said for Waking Life. dunno about watching it high, but watching it sober was irritating.

fell asleep on it the first two times, started clicking with me after the 3rd time tho. and it's not about being all like "you don't get it" or any of that shit. i dug it cos it's a completely different film experience than anything else out there. not just from the rotoscoping (animation), but just even *attempting* to visualise a film that takes place inside a lucid dream? it's pretty ballsy.

so i felt i needed to give it a decent shot. 3rd time i watched, wasn't sure what i had just seen. so i saw it another 2 times and i really dug it after that. i've gone thru this process with only a handful of films and i've ended up loving em moreso than others.

Scanner was forgettable...like, I really don't remember shit about it, other than it "looked cool."...Yay, rotoscoping...but after a while the visuals couldn't save it

Waking Life,however...was at least thought provoking, albeit somewhat slow and excessively talky...I thought it would've of worked well as a stream of consciousness essay/poem...

I don't care for Slacker, either...which is similar, just less philosophy and animation. Freeflowing coversations. I understand the historical importance of it, but meh.

Waking Life is basically the same type of concept. It's a one time viewing that I don't care for. And I own it cause I saw it for $3 once. Bought it blind cause friends loved it. Never watched it again.

the beginning sort of threw me off as I didn't know what to expect and seeing a bunch of people rambling philosophical abstractions is a bit strange. but after the first 30 minutes i thoroughly started to enjoy the experience.

I thought the acting was excellent and the subject matter - albeit somewhat pretentious at times - was thought provoking. it actually became refreshing to watch a movie with such an unorthodox plot-line.

i think people in this post are assuming that the cerebral capacity of most human beings is at a higher level than it really is. i honestly don't think a lot of people even consider a fraction of the subject matter that was presented in this film on a day-to-day basis. and that is honestly a somewhat scary thought.

for many, this movie is just a refresher on what we already know, and just presenting age-old concepts in a slightly new format. however, for the person who HASN'T actually put much thought into these abstractions, it could be a pretty big wake-up call.

i definitely can see why someone would hate this movie though. it can be very tedious if you're not really prepared for the subject matter. however, i thought it was enjoyable and there are also TONS of quotables throughout.

cuz I watched this as an 18 y.o. stoner thinking it was the deepest shit EVER, bro.

I was working at Blockbuster at the time and was trying to impress this artsy co-worker and ended up pissed that I used one of my 5 free rentals of the week on that bullshit

And I'm an actual smart person. I find that dumb
people actually like to shit on it because it makes
them feel smart to say "it wasn't deep."

It wasn't supposed to be deep.

Matter of fact, to real smart people, nothing in
movies is "deep."

I don't know the last time I really seen a "deep"
movie....movies are emotional and touching, but
deep intellectually? Can't really say I've seen
many, ever, if any.

Some shit is just enjoyable and trippy

'Walking Life' was trippy and fun

If you thought it was trying to be deep, you
a dumb nigga to begin with

also, I think the movie was somewhat of a parody of itself in a way in that the characters were for the most part talking about super deep shit and the entire time you see crazy visuals around them and their eyes are bugging out an faces warping and shit. it just made it feel as if the writer/director wanted to present serious subject matter, but in a not so serious way.
