if anything, the mayans ought to be upset at the popular myth the movie is based on; the "truth" about the calender was twisted long ago, so i don't get why they are pissed the myth got turned into a popcorn flick.

Yes, it's incredibly silly and dumb. But fuck me, once shit starts going (which they set off fairly early, as far as disaster flicks go), it goes HARD for a long fucking time. It was the perfect blend of shit-eating grin and uttering, "Ohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuck."

The acting was all appropriately handled. I had some gripes with the last half hour or so-- the pace slows down, and some of the characters get ignoble deaths when I felt they'd earned their final goodbye moment. But those first two hours were about as fun as I've had at any dumb action movie this year, and in terms of disaster movies, this is the best in a long fucking time.

Special shout out to Woody Harrelson, who hams it up and steals every scene. Hammiest performance in a dumb action movie since God knows when. And Oliver Platt, whenever I need a fat asshole in a movie, I'm coming to you, you magnificent bastard.

- That SmartNigga was wrong thru-out the movie. Every 10 min, his prediction was proven WRONG!

- How DAFUCK they gonna feed all them niggas that jumped on at the last minute? They gonna chop up that Gorilla and Giraffe?

- Nas' dream in "Belly" finally came true, huh?

- So they only finished building 3? What happened to the rest of the Euros?

- Poor Gordon, he flew half-way across the country and what was his reward? His chick straight up PLAYED him at the end. "Where have you been all my life?"

- They drove a BENTLEY out a falling plane? What kinda Jason Statham/Transporter shit was that!?!?

- Deep Impact, Morgan Freeman
- 2012, Danny Glover
- 24, Dennis Haybert
Anybody notice a trend of when bad shit happens they always wanna the Black man to take the blame?

- So at the end of the day . . .the Chinese saved the world?

- - - Begin Sig. - - -

>- That SmartNigga was wrong thru-out the movie. Every 10 min,
>his prediction was proven WRONG!

to be fair, it was off for everyone. he wasn't the only one, just the main one and the mouth piece. it also added suspense and unpredictability.

>- How DAFUCK they gonna feed all them niggas that jumped on at
>the last minute? They gonna chop up that Gorilla and Giraffe?

those people were planned on. they all had tickets, remember? they were only left because the time period changed and oliver platt's punk ass wanted to leave them so he could be safe. i dont see why the rest of the ships didn't pick some of them up though.

>- So they only finished building 3? What happened to the rest
>of the Euros?

6. only three were in tow at the end though, but there were six from my understanding.

OR actually... they didn't have time to finish all of them, so that could account for the overwhelmingly extra number of people.

>- Poor Gordon, he flew half-way across the country and what
>was his reward? His chick straight up PLAYED him at the end.
>"Where have you been all my life?"

fuck gordon. he tried to bitch out every chance he got, despite being the only one capable. jackson made him do it. fuck that dork. i was happy to see him go.

>- They drove a BENTLEY out a falling plane? What kinda Jason
>Statham/Transporter shit was that!?!?

were they supposed to jump? it was close enough to the ground that the ramp was touching, so it wasnt nearly THAT outrageous.

>- Deep Impact, Morgan Freeman
>- 2012, Danny Glover
>- 24, Dennis Haybert
>Anybody notice a trend of when bad shit happens they always
>wanna the Black man to take the blame?

sure, but africa was the continent that survived intact, so.... though i realize it was south africa that was chose as the starting point. the truest heroes of this story, save jackson, were black, glover included.

>- So at the end of the day . . .the Chinese saved the world?

huh? china was simply the best location based on the projections to do such a project, with cheap labor to boot. how did china save the world?

I thought it was a geological GIVEN that you can't predict Earthquakes. How the heck they predict the impact of a Tsunami to the SECOND?

They were under the assumption that the other Arks would have been completed. Ark #3 was completely lost, so that's a WHOLE SHIP full of resources that weren't used.

Plus, they never intended for the Chinese workers to come onboard. How they gonna feed them, too?

They would've been able to save 400k humans, if all the Arks were completed. But the timetable got pushed back to only 3 Days. PLUS Ark #3 was lost, so that means they only had Ark 4, 7, & 6. So that means that they only saved like 100k+ humans.

GENOLOGICAL DIVERSITY FAIL!

You mean the NATIVE Africans are gonna be happy to see 100K people flood their land and take over shit?

America tried that with Liberia, and that shit didn't go over too well.

Without the Chinese, the project would've have gone thru. Imagine if Ford or GM had to build the Arks.

>I thought it was a geological GIVEN that you can't predict
>Earthquakes. How the heck they predict the impact of a Tsunami
>to the SECOND?

it seems reasonable that they would be able to predict the overall instability of the earth itself once they realized what was exactly happening. would give them a much better chance to predict these things as they had some specific data to use.he was written to be off with the predictions in the general timeline, and if anything that humanized and showed exactly how difficult it isto accurately predict these things, ergo making it MORE realistic rather then less. a tsunami wave should be able to be predicted with relative ease i would think. but still.. you can only predict so much of a disaster like this, so the fact that they got a lot of shit wrong isn't really a logical issue.

>You mean the NATIVE Africans are gonna be happy to see 100K
>people flood their land and take over shit?
>
>America tried that with Liberia, and that shit didn't go over
>too well.

uhm... the entire world just ended. you really think their gonna trip on the only remaining suvivors showing up to the only remaining continent? really? you are thinking about this in relationship to the current world climate, not in terms of the aftermath of an ELE that just occurred.

>Without the Chinese, the project would've have gone thru.
>Imagine if Ford or GM had to build the Arks.

oh lord. ford or gm would have built better arks if you really want to get down to this level. it's china, not japan, not germany, but china. so because china agreed to do it, it's them and only them that saved teh world. GOTCHA. never mind the massive world effort including 46 countries, it was china and china alone that made this happen. they provided the location.... but not the money for resources. i mean c'mon.

I wish I could stay awake to go into details..

All I can say is this shit is LONG AS FUCK! Caught the 10:30pm show and the credits rolled at 1:20am.

The script/plot was fucking absurd, the acting was fucking horrid and casting was nothing short of bewildering. I can't believe this shit was green lit!!!

Not to mention that in it's royal ridiculousness, it somehow manages to become a survey of white guilt pathology..

I know...WTF???

he wanted to cast people who looked like they would swallow the jingoistic state propaganda without any hints of independent thought.

He's a smart dude. Verhoeven has a PhD in mathematics and is very self-aware. The genius of Robocop and Starship Troopers is that he managed to make both films appeal on drastically different levels depending on who you are and what you want out of the film.

If you want to watch soldiers kill bugs (or a robot cop tearing shit up) then you'll be happy. But, if you want a thoughtful commentary on what living in a fascist state would actually be like from a guy who lived in the Netherlands during WWII (or a satire on hyperviolence in media) then you can enjoy the film too on an entirely different level.

The story wasnt nearly as ass as other movies of the same genre. The actors did a pretty decent job especially Platt and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The EFFECTS ARE THE BEST EVER...SERIOUSLY go see it for that alone. We've come along way since Jurassic Park.

and unlike Transformers 2 I actually see the 200+ mill budget on screen.

that being said..From the Trailers played before the movie...AVATAR looks to be great.

and better graphics. the movie was decently played out but my boy Chiwetel Ejiofor held down EACH AND EVERY emotional scene. very impressed by that kid.

but honestly i was worth my $7. the characters played a decent dynamic and allowed for a fun ride.

now YES, there was MADD shit that wouldn't have gone down. like the Nascar Limo Cusack was driving but nonetheless..

There were some above average, I would even say good, acting here. Blu Mankuma was wonderful in his 5 minute appearance. He should get a nod when he was on the phone. Overall everyone did good enough job to make the movie interesting.

I had to kill a few hours while my daughter was ice skating so I said what the hell and bought a ticket. Went in expecting Day After Tomorrow and got Transformers.... style wise that is. With movies like that you don't pick the story apart at every turn... it's more ride than movie really. And on that level it totally worked.

giraffes on those arks?

And I understood the part about the G8 & everything, but how could they leave South American & African representatives out of there, I mean, the world was going to end & just because they didn't belong to the G8, they were left out all together?

The special effects were great, & that's about all there is to say about it. And Chiwetel was good also.

In response to Reply # 69

so out of 400k folks, x% of them were for biodiversity and x% of them was cats w/ deep pockets. they was talkin a billion euro per head per seat.

are there really 100k ni&&as in the world balling like that? oligarchies from the US (gates, buffet, some hedge fund cats, some higher ups from M$ got multi bil. oprah and mj mighta coulda squeeked in. bob johnson and his ex-wife (damn. future don't bode well for af-am descendendants).

some wealthy euros. rich russians. the chinese oligarchy. couple rich indians. cats from oil rich countries. there really ain't a whole lot of muhfuckas in that price range. throw in a couple wealthy nigerian businessmen to round that shit out, sure. maybe a couple other dictators balling off oil paper. i'ma go head and say there ain't 100k multi-billionaires in the world.

of that other 300k+, though, you would get the bio-diversity. its gonna be heavily ytastic because, that's just how they do.

>giraffes on those arks?

they ain't know for sure what areas would flood and which would remain dry. so they had to get all them animals. well, just the big ones. all that shit that live in the rainforest, tho? dead.

maybe they figured that letting africa not catch a bad one. and having chiwey and the pres be black they ain't have to worry about that.

what would be interesting is if they get to africa on some "we discovered you" shit.

whoa at the cgi
LA, yellowstone, LV, india, the monastery
just whoa

but the emo moments were cheesey
folks at my theatre actually laughed at glover when he was STILL alive

although the scene of 'let my people in'
was touching

it felt very yay! boo! yay! boo! boo! boo! boo! yay!
so for a holiday blockbuster it was a-ok then?
