trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-tSvrkKx2Y

Jackie Haley has some BIG shoes to fill. I can't imagine another Krueger. and i guess they are going to introduce him being a child molester early. they cut it from the original movie. they made him "just" a child killer in the original.

don't think they can pull this off with Rorschach

I haven't really enjoyed any of these Horror movie remakes, be cool if they do something a little more obscure like Phantasm tho

I did enjoy Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare though.

And even though alot of folks hated on it (and perhaps rightfully so), I liked Freddy Vs. Jason as well.

This new one though, I don't know.

Between this and the Halloween and Friday The 13th remakes, I think is the most tricky one to do justice to.

And based on this trailer, I'm unimpressed so far.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

>And what does it have to do with him being some superhuman
>nightmare guy?

in the original, he was the child of a woman who was raped hundreds of time by a bunch of psychos in an insane asylum. he then molests some kids as an adult, heads off to court and gets off on a small technicality. so the people attack him and burn him to death- significant because that's why he looked the way he looked, for one. when he dies, some demons revive him and give him his immortal powers. so he returns to murder the children of these people.

his back story has ALWAYS been in play so i'm kinda clueless as to why you made this statement at all.

i mean, it's story structure 101- for one, it provides his motive for doing what he does, and why he only does it where he does.

Talk about forced. So he got burned........so
>the fuck what.

take that up with wes craven and the original series.

>And the little flash they showed of his face....looks fuckin
>bad and not scary.

agreed

>and it's Michael Bay

oh god. this really, really bothers me. he can't do a story justice to save his life.

Freddy was funny as hell to me, that's part of the reason I was never afraid to watch his movies as a child. I feel like his sense of humor sets him aside from all of the other serial teeny slashers.

So they definitely gave him the burn victim lips. But aren't those type of lips the result of reconstructive surgery to reform what was burned away?

What I'm asking, is did Freddie Krueger have cosmetic surgery?

mind you, i went in with a open mind, no expectations.

i thought it was okay. not scary, and not completely dumb.

in the end i dont feel like i wasted my money, but i do feel like i wasted some sleep time, cuz now i'm gonna be super tired when i gotta get up for work in 4 hrs.

And I don't mean like great storytelling, I mean basic horror movie storytelling. Basically, imagine watching the original Nightmare on fast forward and you get the drift.

It's just bad. Yeah, there are a bunch of "gotcha!" scares but that's it. There was little build up and forget the idea of not falling asleep. That's all anyone does in this movie. The first half of the movies is almost more dream than real life.

The end gets a little better but the whole thing feels rushed. And since they had to reshoot a bunch, I think that the studio probably thought, "Let's just get through this as quickly as possible so peopel don't get bored."

On the bright side, the Freddy CGI burns were what Dark Knight should have done for Two Face.

There's no reason to see this. If they make a sequel, they need to get a better screenwriter and hand the script off to Tarsem Singh.

28. "i would have preffered an all-out origin story (spoilers i guess)"
In response to Reply # 0

because the most compelling scene in the movie was when they chased his ass down, and then when they finally find the "cave".

personally, i like the idea of having him be innocent and one of the parents actually being the pedo and framing him for it. you could still make freddy the child of a thousand maniacs and have him kinda fucked in the head, but still innocent.

THAT would, in my opinion, be a more compelling motive for his actions, and we get two benefits from that: we don't have to sit through the creepy pedo scenes (thankfully they didn't get too far into that part) and freddy has some real vengeance to seek because the kids would have told lies that got him a punishment he didn't deserve.

also, this would then be a good foundation for putting freddy after EVERYONE in the town. adults included, which opens up far more possibilities because this story is basically the same every time out.

my other "wish" would be to take a more supernatural approach to the story in terms of the mechanism for "how" this is able to happen. lets get into some astral plane shit, hell it would have been dope to have one kid who was somehow able to hold freddy at bay on a spiritual/psychic level. something. but the story isn't done with any real imagination, which is sad because the story has so much potential to go more places then it did.

In response to Reply # 28

I haven't seen it. Now, I'll probably wait for video--it seems just as generic as the Friday the 13th remake.

It's sooo disappointing to me that this has been in development for years, AND they got a good actor to replace Robert Englund, but they still went a generic/formulaic route with it. You would've thought that after being in development for so damn long, they would have held on to the good ideas that inevitably popped up. I guess that never happens.

Like, remember when there was talk of Jason vs. Freddy vs. Ash? Well, it made it into a comic book, but somehow someone was like, 'nah, no one would go see that. Let's just redo the franchises in a very bland way.

In response to Reply # 30

Others were grosser, more disturbing, sometimes even more creative, definitely funnier, but I always thought Korny Krueger detracted from the scares with his bad puns and overly ironic dream scenarios. Come to think of it he was kind of like Maury Povich... oh so you're afraid of balloons...

I don't think the first one is on the level of Halloween, but definitely much better than the first Friday the 13th. A genre classic, but not quite good enough to be an all around great film.

The second one is easily the funniest and worth watching for the comedy of turning Freddy into a metaphor for a gay kid in the closet. Third one is actually pretty well made. Anything after that is just campy, though I do reccomend Freddy vs. Jason for the markout factor.

My favorite being The Exorcist.

I just think the first one was done damn near perfectly. Freddy is shady, enough of the paranoia in the film with no one believing the kids are dreaming. The murders, some viciously blood scenes. I love it.

I swear the woman that played Kris' mom in the new one was the same as Nancy's original mom. There's nothing in the cast that confirms this though

having said that, i found this movie to really not be scary or funny. honestly, it just seemed like they took a bunch of scenes and plots from all the other movies and updated them for 2010. nothing groundbreaking or spectacular. i would have thought they would at least work on dialogue and storytelling.

In response to Reply # 0

Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy initially had me excited.

But then i got to thinking, he is too intense and sinister for the part and would be too dry when it came to sense of humor. and what made it worse was his "bat growl" voice.

the original Freddy made you laugh and made you scared.

the jokes and humor with Freddy was forced.

terrible altogether.

but then again Michael Bay is involved (although the new Friday the 13th wasn't *this* bad, although still bad).

Bay knows this will do numbers. the hell with everything else.

and sure enough, its the #1 movie.

loud music blasts don't scare anybody. its tired. sadly, thats all today's fillmmakers seem to have in their bag of tricks.

In the original film series Kreuger killed at least twenty children with his signature glove. After he was released from jail for his crimes do to a technicality the parents hunted him down and burned him alive in his boiler room hideout. The new film didn't touch on any of this and made it seem like he was an innocent guy that was torched alive.

Anyways, the new film suffered from from being too cookie cutter and not really even trying to terrify audiences. There wasn't one scary moment in the film or anything new. Every fright shock was expected and none of the deaths were innovative. I feel asleep twice while watching since the characters weren't important enough for me to care about. Hopefully Wes Craven will helm the next film in the series. Jackie Earl Haley did an excellent job as Freddy but the script was JUST horrible.

the new film didn't touch on that because it's its own story, it's a reboot, and it's not intended to be a continuation of the original story. they told their own story. as far as making it seem like he was innocent, they very clearly conveyed that he wasn't innocent in the end. the fact that the impression everyone had was that he might be innocent was actually a compelling plot point.

LOL. i'm sorry but i think people's memories of the original film is a little cloudy. those movies were never good movies! they were schlock to begin with. it gets nostalgia points and generates a little more affection then the actual quality of the films warrants.

But wouldn't praise it by any means.

Someone said earlier it felt like it was in fast forward. This is true. It lost the originals suspense and semi-slow burn. Strangely, I did enjoy the new dark, dry sarcasm of Freddy.

A nice little touch I enjoyed was how he was always moving two of his fingers for that creepy little slicing sound.

Things they fucked up on though:

The murders. Especially Chrissy. In the original that is such an ill scene cuz she is cut and being dragged across the ceiling while screaming all that. Idk how you fuck that up.

Too quick.

Freddie really needs to stop explaining to them. Fuck that, he's Freddie and does what he wants.

Face sucked.

it got by on the compelling villain, nothing more. they were not good movies by any stretch.

Basically outside of the exorcist most of the movies were considered pure shit, there was a niche audience of that loved the Friday the 13th, The Halloween's the Phantasm's these movies were never going to get critical acclaim to the folks that loved them, they were great I assumed this movie would be in the same vein. Critics would kill it, but for the folks who actually like the genre they'd enjoy it.

I'm seeing it tomorrow so i'll check back in after I see it.

You could see the themes and scenes from the original one in it, but they managed to modernize them.

I'm a fan and can't wait to see it on blu-ray when it comes out.
