"A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010) teaser trailer"

http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/09/27/a-nightmare-on-elm-street-teaser-trailer/

WOW. Jackie Earle Haley will own this role. Although, I'm not sure about the make up. Englund's Krueger look is iconic. I'm not expecting a great script. Along the lines of Dawn of The Dead & The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes. They were good in there own right, but not great.

The original is one of my favorite films of all time. It would be so easy to make this movie absolutely bitchin, but they also managed to somehow eff up friday the 13th and halloween and this is a little more difficult of a movie.

I'm not sure on the makeup either. I suppose it's more realistic to the burn victim. but like you said, freddy is real iconic.

I'm kinda looking forward to this because as the old series went on he became less scary and more funny.

that voice may take some getting used to though

So I don't have a whole lot of faith in this remake.

I'll wait and see what the reception is though.
Doubtful, but hopeful.

Jason was an unstoppable mindless killing machine in the previous franchise. Now he is some sort of criminal mastermind who uses a series of underground tunnels. He has a lair where he keeps his victims to torture them? Huh?

Everything was so forced in that movie. It's like some people who know nothing about Friday the 13th, or even horror movies for that matter, made a movie of what they thought horror fans wanted to see, but completely missed the mark.

It was boring. It wasn't scaring. It wasn't creative. It wasn't even funny.

They only thing they got right was it had some decent gore and they show titties. But they had no idea who to craft a good horror movie at all imo.

I liked it alot though,....
i think anytime one sets out to do a remake of a film like this,....there a lot of things that would ordinarily doom them to failure, but in this case,....these are one of the few remakes i really liked....

lets keep in mind also,....its a Friday the 13th film....in otherwords,....its mindless entertainment to begin with,....not high art.

the directors commentary explains the underground tunnels....
and in fact, it made sense. How else could this hulking figure of a beast seemingly be at all of these diffent places in the woods without anyone seeing or hearing him coming, except to use the underground,......????

Its like that moment in Predator, when Arnold and his crew realize that the Predator was using the trees.
I think it was a bit more realistic than having that dude just show up behind you in the woods without snapping at least one twig.

And also, he wasnt torturing his victims,....he only had the one girl captive cause she looked like his mother.

I also thought the fact that he could run was really cool too. It gave Jason a new dimension without sacrificing any of the old....
The opening of that film, where he runs after the girl and then they cut to the title shot was GREAT !!!!!!

Was it scary? no,....but then again few horror films made in the 2000s are.....
funny? Yes, if you like seeing young white frat boys get murdered for their own stupidity....(and I do)

I thought it was a good remake...
Hight art.....stellar acting,.....??? absolutely not.
but its a slasher flick and to a large degree....the Friday the 13th series were never any of that either.
It is what it is,....mindless, violent film with gratuitous titties and a variety of kills.

However with all remakes,....I like to see at least one or two things they do different witht the character then the originals....
and this pretty much did.

A running Jason,....whoa...!!! Let the madness begin.
Underground tunnels.....okay i'll buy that,....makes sense.
Jason who can hit a moving target with a bow and arrow?? hilarious.
The sleeping bag over the camp fire scene....brutal yet poetic.

overall.....
it wins IMO.

but thats just me,...if you didnt like it so be it....
but I WILL DEFINITELY SEE THE NEW NIGHTMARE ON ELM....it looks pretty grimey!!!!!!!!

At least it had creative deaths. lol

But, I feel you to some degree.

But imo opinion if you are gonna re-envision a franchise with a multimillion dollar budget and a prominent Hollywood player putting his name behind it, you should maybe take the franchise to the next level. Making Jason faster and taking away the mystique or supernatural elements away from the original by explaining an underground tunnel system is not being innovative to me. It just makes me think the director was biting "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon."

To me there is an art to even B-grade horror films. They usually have really low budgets, so the creativity of the effects and make-up are usually a big part of it. Also they way people die is a big part of the appeal of these types of movies. The liquid nitrogen face smash in Jason X is a perfect example. All the creative ways Freddy killed his victims throughout the Elm Street films. Those are what make those films great to me. They had very little and did a lot with it.

This movie HAD money and yet it still had bad acting and relatively poor execution. There were maybe 1 or 2 creative deaths. Nothing felt like it was in the spirit of the original franchise at all tome.

And in the end, the movie was boring.
Slow moving and boring.
And every little nod to the original was so trite and on some wink-wink nudge nudge type shit.

Just because I like slasher films does not mean I am begging for my intelligence to be insulted.

*shrug*

Let us not forget that JASON X was a classic!!!! Only to be outdone by Leprechaun in Space.

that being said, there are only so many ways one can be killed in the woods.....I mean....sleeping bag in the fire....being stuffed ina wood chipper, bow and arrow, having a flying axe hit a moving target at 100 meters....(the black guy) all of these are worthy kills. Highly unique and creative,....not really but you have to kinda already know going into a jason movie, that no one is just gonna get it the normal way.

But there not much even a big budget can do with a a slasher film.
I mean, I feel you and all,....I just think at the end of the day, we all know what Jason came to do....and I think that we who love the F13 movies so much, sorta do pay for our intelligences to be insulted.
Think about it,...theres nothing more Michael Bay couldve done that would have changed this film for the better,....hell no one could.
Its not deep,...its by no means an oscar worthy movie, and they NEVER have been.
I think the era of the slasher film is pretty much over. There's nothing more to be done....
Every Holiday has a horror movie,...( See Eli Roth's THANKSGIVING!!)

Mothers Day
Black Christmas
Halloween
I still Know what you did Last Summer (ok, not a holiday, but a time of the year)
Leprechaun and ST Patricks Day...

The killer with a mask has been done to death,.....
Final Destination took the 'VARIETY KILL' to another level....
Its all played out.

F13 is a franchise well into 11 + films......

At this point, we all deserve to have our intelligence insulted.
And they are, if we going in expecting any thing else....
The jokes on us. but that being said,....

I liked it for what it was....
I loooong for the day where someone comes in and smashes the horror film industry with something new and truly scary....

but,...i dont think thats gonna happen. so in the mean time, we'll have to settle with remakes and just hope theyre good.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is the quintessential horror movie to me. So, I was really PISSED OFF when I found out they were going to do a remake of it. But, after watching the trailer....I GOTTA SEE IT. Just because they made Freddy look like a real burn victim, and they actually showed how he became burnt in the first place. His voice sounds scary.

I know it will be like pulling teeth to get my husband into that movie theater, but dammit, it will be done! This is a must see for me!
