"UK tv sucks recommend me some US shows"

I need some new shows to watch because most of UK tv is awful

Heres a list of some shows that i have watched or currently watching to give an idea of what i like

The Sopranos
The Wire
Lost
24
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Six Feet Under
South Park
30 Rock
My Name Is Earl
Scrubs
Everybody Hates Chris

Shows i haven't seen but am curious about & want to know if they are worth checking out

Entourage
The Unit
The Shield
True Blood
Deadwood

and finally shows i gave a fair chance but have given up on
Heroes
Family Guy

So are there any other shows that i am missing out on?

The US steals a lot of show ideas from you guys.

You should definitely check out Big Love, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and How I Met Your Mother.

True Blood, Entourage, and The Shield are must-tries. I personally couldn't get into Deadwood, but there are a lot of people around here who loved it. Never watched The Unit.

Really? the only one i can think of is The Office. We've never made anything on the level of The Wire or Sopranos etc

Ok i've heard of Mad Men & How I Met Your Mother i'll give them a try. Mad Men gets shown over here but i've yet to check it out

Never heard of either Big Love or Breaking Bad. What are they about?

Well, they're not on the level of The Wire or The Sopranos, but Life on Mars and Coupling come to mind. The American version of Kitchen Nightmares is horrible. I think American Idol and Dancing with the Stars are both based on British shows, right?

>

Breaking Bad: A high school Chemistry teacher finds out he has terminal lung cancer and worries about how his family will be supported when he dies. He teams up with a deadbeat former student to produce and distribute very high quality meth, while trying to keep it a secret from his family, including a brother-in-law who is a DEA agent.

Big Love: Home improvement store-owning polygamist with three wives and a gazillion (okay, 8) children. Lots of interesting problems with their extended family members.

Musically, TV, well anything artistic. But you guys will only ever see the gems that stand out, the majority of our TV (especially) is terrible. British dramas are embarrassingly bad in comparison to American ones. Well, we do make good period dramas, but I personally don't enjoy them.

Having said that I'll, as usual, relate this back too cooking, Britain dominates good cooking shows. Apart from Anthony Bourdain I've not enjoyed any American cooking show. Feel free to recommend though.

Entourage has its ups and downs,
haven't seen the Unit but I'd give it a chance,
I don't care for True Blood but plenty of folks do,
I've heard nothing but amazing things about Deadwood,
and I was/am a huge fan of the Shield.

The only other thing I'd add on is "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia."

Cos I heard Chris Morris (of Brass Eye fame) was involved, but I thought it was shit and stopped watching. It seems to have built up quite a lot of support and has kept going so maybe there's something in it after all.

"The Guardian reported that Morris is working on a film satirising terrorism and suicide bombers for Channel 4. The project, titled Four Lions was turned down by both the BBC and Channel 4 for its controversial subject matter, but has been picked up by Film Four. Morris told The Sunday Times that the film will seek to do for Islamic terrorism what Dad's Army, the classic BBC comedy, did for the Nazis by showing them as "scary but also ridiculous""

Sounds brilliant - if you know the style of comedy he does on Brass Eye, if not it probably sounds distasteful (which many people think it is!). His most famous/infamous programme was a news show satirising the over the top reaction to paedophilia in the UK.
