"Emmy Nominations"
Thu Jul-16-09 09:18 AM by Frank Longo

I'm happy for FOTC and Jim Parsons, but Family Guy? Is the comedy category that weak this year? The supporting actor categories are stacked too: Rainn Wilson, Aaron Paul, Michael Emerson.

Also, surprise Wire fans! No nomination!

Read the whole list here: http://media.thestate.com/smedia/2009/07/16/09/61stemmys_noms.source.prod_affiliate.74.pdf

C'mon! Mariska Hargitay and Hugh Laurie are great actors but they didn't do anything significantly different this season. I like Simon Baker but he's not seeing Kyle Chandler, Edward James Olmos, Michael Chiklis.

Really Family Guy for best comedy? I don't hate FG, but don't really dig it as much since it has come back. But I'm happy Flight of the Conchords got some nominations.

I would have liked to have seen Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose get a little love for No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, but no dice...

JEMAINE - NOMINATED! TIMBERLAKE - NOMINATED! CORNY NERD SAMBERG - SNUBBED! NOPE! YOU MAD!

(He probably got Best Song on lock, though)

In the writing categories (which will be posted below), I'm bummed that Breaking Bad didn't get any nominations... woulda been tough to pick one episode that stood out, though... same for Friday Night Lights...

Of course I'm going to once again be upset that Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton got the shaft in the acting categories... I mean, granted I don't watch the show, but Simon Baker, fam? Connie's snub is a little more understandable, however, as the Supporting Actress category is tough this year...

Drama series is also tough... on the comedy side, I suppose you *could* swap out My Name is Earl or United States of Tara for Family Guy... nahhhhhhh...

Oh, and hey, Michael J. Fox got another nomination, which is dope...

Edited to add that Walton Goggins should have been nominated for The Shield...

9. "My thoughts: Yays and Boos"
In response to Reply # 0

The Yays:

* Flight of the Conchords getting nominated for Best Comedy Series (even though season one was MUCH better)
* Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) getting nominated for Actor in a comedy series (although it seems weird to single one out over the other)
* Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) getting nominated forActor in a Comedy Series because Sheldon, hands down, is the funniest character on television right now
* Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?) getting nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series
* Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) getting nominated for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
* Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies) getting nominated for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (and she better win this time)
* Kristin Wiig (Saturday Night Live) getting nominated for Supporting Actress in Comedy Series
* Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) getting nominated for Actress in a Drama Series because season two was really her breakout and at least one of the women from this show needed to be nominated
* John Slattery (Mad Men) getting nominated for Supporting Actor in a Drama because he can have three lines in an episode and two of them are probably the best lines of the episode.
* Justin Timberlake (Saturday Night Live) got nominated for Guest Actor in a Series. Just make him part of the cast already
* Michael Emerson (Lost) getting nominated for Supporting Actor in a Drama because he can make reading the phonebook sound compelling
* Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog got nominated for Short-format Live-Action Entertainmen. Awesome!

The Boos:

* Entourage for Best Comedy Series? Jeremy Piven wasn’t even nominated and he could be the only reason the last season was even remotely watchable. I need another Really? with Seth & Amy for this one.
* Family Guy for Best Comedy Series? This would have been cool a few seasons ago but now?
* The Shield had what I considered one of the top three final seasons of any show and it didn’t get any major nominations. I challenge anyone to watch the final season (out on DVD) and tell me that’s justice.
* Friday Night Lights continues getting snubbed. I’ve given up on it getting nominated for Best Drama but can Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler get some love
* Big Love got nominated for Best Drama Series but received no acting nominations? Say what now?
* While I’m glad Gabriel Byrne got nominated for In Treatment, I’m bummed Alison Pill didn’t get one.
* John Noble should have gotten a Supporting Actor in aDrama nomination for Fringe
* Danny McBride should have gotten nominated for East Bound & Down because he’s Kenny Fucking Powers!
* Battlestar Galactica got snubbed in it’s final season (except for one Directing nomination and some tech ones). While the final season wasn’t perfect but Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell were.
* Are Two and a Half Men and Boston Legal really that good?

I think both Tracy Morgan and Neil Patrick Harris are great. Right now I think I'm pulling for Tracy Morgan a bit more just because I want to see him give an acceptance speech at the Emmys.

I too am happy to see Jim Parsons nominated, as well as Jermaine. I'd guess neither of them are going to win, but it's cool they're nominated. I like all the Flight of the Conchord nominations, hopefully they win for something- perhaps for Carol Brown, that's just an awesome song.

edit- Also, I get that 30 Rock is great. I love it. But how does Jennifer Aniston get a guest star nomination over Amy Ryan's run on the Office?

US of Tara is an amazing show and she is flawless with her Alters, I don't see a single actress that's showing that amount of versatility that she's shown this past season.

In Treatment and/or Weeds lost out to these high calibre contenders:
BEST DRAMA SERIES
Big Love
Breaking Bad
Damages
Dexter
House
Lost

That seems hard to believe. The quality drop off between those 2 and the rest listed here is a steep decline.

And January Jones not getting nominated for Best Actress is a big miss. Co-sign the Chloe Sevigny nom too.

Big Love is nice but not touching either one. AMC is running things for drama right now. I don't think we need to worry about who else is nominated. I'd entertain an argument that's nice for recognition, especially lesser watched shows, but I can't even really think of any show that I'm mad got left out.

My scattered thoughts....

FG best comedy? really? How about Kenny Fucking Powers.

Best Drama Series is pretty stacked and a tough call between Breaking Bad, Dexter and Lost for me.... but if The Wire was eligable its another fucking travesty.

Best Actor in Drama series..... I know this a longshot, but Jeffrey Donovan needs some attention for Burn Notice. Simon Baker is a surprise and unwaranted imo... Im rooting hard for Cranston and Michael C. Hall, but since Cranston got it last year, i gotta hope for Dexter this year.

Supporting Actor in Drama series..... Aaron Paul! Really happy about this nomination. Also a fan of Michael Emerson's nomination.

Also happy David Simon at least got some love for Generation Kill in the mini-series categories.

The show is well past where it used to be and not really deserving of the show or Mary Louise Parker's nom.

If its gonna give out nominations for the show, at least needs to be supporting actor for Justin Kirk or Kevin Nealon who hold the show down. That category is tough tho so can see why they were left out.

I know the drama noms are stacked this year but The Shield had one of the best seasons you will ever see on tv. As for FNL , at the very fucking least Kyle Chandler deserves a nomination.

I would complain about bsg not getting any noms but considering how decisive opinion was toward the final season..... I'm not surprised.

Series, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor at least.

I have to go with Mad Men for Series and Cranston for Actor.

And I'd love to see Parsons win for TBBT.
