I didn't love Cloverfield. Parts of it were clunky and the camerawork gave me a headache.
But it was a great idea. And they ought to have made a new category for the Academy Awards just so that the guy behind the viral marketing for Cloverfield could win an Oscar.
However, District 9 looks pretty stupid. The part at the end of the trailer where the alien has a blurred 'face'...I mean, if it was a comedy, you know, Mars Attacks-ish...maybe I'd go for it...but it doesn't look that way...

This trailer reminded me too much of Terminator: Salvation which was a great trailer for a lousy movie. It looks like more of a straight action film than something with, you know, an actual story and characters.
Still, Cloverfield was garbage so it'll have to really disappoint to be worse.

Live so that when you die, you rejoice, and the world cries. ~~~~ You cannot hate people for their own good.

looks like a great story derived from experiences in Apartheid South Africa
A South African director, filmed in Joburg, a deliberately enslaved population subclass and derived from the director's own short story 'Alive in Johannesburg'.
Blomkamp is not that old but he's of an age where he would have grown up as Apartheid, as a form of gov't, was coming to an end.
